    The opioid crisis in the US has killed half a million people and created millions of addicts, all because the pharmaceutical companies pushed opioid medicines as not being prone to abuse or addictive.
    In his latest HBO doc-series The Crime of the Century (2021), Oscar- and Emmy-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney provides the most comprehensive look to date at the opioid crisis in the US. Alex joins us to discuss the making of the film, arguing that the opioid crisis has deeply criminal roots. The film finds fresh evidence that shows just how deep that criminality runs.
    The Crime of the Century premiered on HBO and HBO Max on May 10th and May 11th. It comes to Sky Documentaries and streaming service NOW on Sunday, May 16th at 9pm.
    "It’s the little acts of corruption that get bigger and bigger, and over time you get a fully corrupted system." - Alex Gibney

    I saw this doc yesterday and even though I knew about the Opioids crisis it surprised me the amount of sold pills, profits and people involved.
    Gibney is very good at portraying the hole picture on the subjects of their documentaries.
    Great as always, hope a lot more people can watch.

    I tried to watch the documentary in Amazon Prime and it’s “unavailable to watch in your location” and I live in Alameda, California!
    I am a survivor of a car bomb in 1991 from the time Pablo Escobar was killing police enforcement in Medellin, Colombia to fight against his extradition to the USA.
    Did you investigate where and how these pharmaceutical drugs companies get their ingredients to process their narcotics?
    I am SO tired of seeing my people in my country getting killed because of this “war in drugs”!

    Somebody desperately needs to do a film about how medical doctors in America have "a chokehold on the American public" and also in other countries, what I'm trying to say is the drug companies and the medical doctors~ none of us should ever be really "leaning on some medical doctor for better Health" if you want better health you seek out people that are professionals trained in the natural healing realm, and that would be more along the lines of Master healing therapists, holistic health practitioners, very talented acupuncturists, and some occasional chiropractic along with holistic nutritionist {not clinical nutritionists} that is the recipe for better Health it takes a while to switch over your habits, but anyway please somebody's got to do a documentary on the crimes of the drug companies this is barely touching on it there's SO MUCH MORE to it...

    This HBO show should be a must see of every public school's curriculum. When I saw that hill descend down into Wise County, VA. my heart sank. I literally have some relatives in that area. The amount of human suffering that has been caused is staggering. Paying fines is not even a slap on the wrist. CHINA are not on my Christmas Card list, but they knew that they had to rid themselves of the scourge of opium addiction and wrest control of their country and people from European colonial control and the opium trade. In a Just American, the Sacklers would be in prison for the rest of their miserable lives.

    • @suziewhattley3917
      @suziewhattley3917 2 года назад +2

      The Sacklers should be sharing a cell with John Kapoor but they are white and paid off the right people, so they'll never go down. Hopefully "Dopesick" will make them social pariahs.

      I worked for a Big Pharma company from 2000-2008. Those absurd sales conventions are for real! They party like maniacs for a week, hyping the sales reps into promoting more drugs to doctors & increasing sales. It's true, sad to say.

    Okay heroin comes from a foreign country growing a crop that takes up land that could be used for food grains for hungry citizens and malnourished animals especially mother cow, but also goats and sheep. That's the malfunctioning mistake from the get go. America has their own native soul and native plants and herbs, so it's a shame we go nuts over supporting this in an astronomically unnecessary dare I say greedy way. To me it's crazy and to God it's not acceptable. I'm with God who tells me lust anger and greed are the 3 gates to hell.
