Unfortunately many of us went the other way and were cannabis users first.. We blah blah blah and ended up feeling paranoid with cannabis use and end up using opiates.
All u probably did was lean or Tylenol 3's tf. Cuz thats not how it works...
I remember several years ago I suffered from severe depression and mental disorder. I was addicted to illicit pills, alcohol, and smoking until I was recommended for psilocybin mushroom treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly I'm 8 years clean now. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against anxiety and depression.
To be honest, mushrooms are one of the most amazing things on the planet and it is natural, they serve in many ways not only for mental related issues.
Can you help me with a reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. It is very hard to get a reliable source here in New Zealand. Really need!
Yes, Sporeville. I had the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and addiction... Mushrooms definitely made a huge difference to why I'm clean today.

Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He's 59 & has many mental health issues plus probably CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone.

I took oxy once.. I cried because it made me finally feel like a normal human again (suffer from lots of chronic pain) but I told my boyfriend to never let me take it again as I would get addicted and would abuse it. Glad I made up my mind after the first try.

I was given a huge bottle of 360 10mg Opioids each month by the VA for over 10 years. Then one day my Dr. said No More “You’ll be ill for 3 days and then you’ll be fine”. That was the VA’s way of dealing with Veteran Addicts! Amazing!

I was shocked to understand vets who had serious pain were just seemingly overnight told to go cold turkey or find an Acupuncturist. It seems insurance is also using this to deny patients who still do need to take narcotics to control they’re pain. I think insyte should be available in every community. It’s a shame, I practiced in teaching hospitals for 30 plus years and saw little of it other than the occasional heroin addict admitted for usually a nasty infection like cellulitis, sub bacterial endocarditis or pneumonia from sleeping outside without enough layers.
The shame is what causes perpetuation and the addict to go underground so to speak.

I took hydrocodone for about 3 days after a vasectomy...I went back to work and have been sleeping like 3 hours a day for the past 4 days, am easily wakened and can't go to sleep no matter how long I lay there...is this withdrawal? From only 3 days of opioid use?
@@jmh4ggg normally 3 days wont make you hooked but might give you a small mild withdrawal.. mostly psychological.. but a longer use will end end up in vomit, a sore ass,.. aching muscles, sleep disorder and a lot more.. aint fun.. glad i came out the sewer clean

I went through withdrawls a week ago. I was on pain killers for about 4 months before I realized I was addicted. I had a massive panic attack once withdrawls started and I thought I was going to die. I couldn't eat or sleep or drink for 4 days.. still struggling but I've been educating myself as I am determined to never ever go back.
So sorry you went through that, hope you're feeling better.

Very proud of you knowing you got through the worst you got this remember just 1 day at a time and sometimes just 1 second at a time recovery is so worth it just don't give up 😂😂😂

I think the story of the pharmacist saving someone, getting cussed out by that person, and then finding out that person died 24 hours later from an overdose should be blasted everywhere. Non addicts can't fathom just how powerful addiction is until you hear about a story like that...it's unreal.

They wanted to die. I never overdosed, not once and I was on heroin for years. People that OD, want to die. We usually want to save as much of our stash as possible... that was half my lifetime ago. I have small fiber neuropathy so the experience is actually valuable in fighting these doctors ect if nothing else. I know opiates well.
@@AMPFIELDVISION When I turned 18 I got on Methadone. I wasn't on it but a couple months and my ex wrecked my car so getting to the clinic was a nightmare. My Mother gave me a van. We went to a doctor who prescribed 'kick kits'. A combo of meds to knock u out for a couple days and treat the symptoms. You blackout and wake up clean. It works great but that doctor isn't around that ai know of anymore anyways. Not at that location. He was a Godsend that doctor. My Mother took me to the hot springs and I soaked in the springs and detoxed there. Not supposed to do that with Methadone but I did. Then she left me homeless and went back to Colorado. My Mother is evil though and has shown her true colors the past 10 or so years.
There should be more kick kit doctors. It is the best option for a lot of people. Only charged you $70.00 cash.
Being on the street I ended up using meth because because you end up staying in drug dens. I never touched heroin again. I met my daughter's Father at a meth house. He had a job though and took me home. I asked one day if he wanted to change our lives and have a baby. We spun my daughter out of the aether that night. I stopped everything. Cigarettes immediately and we were a happy family until her uncle abused her when she was 3 and his family went into denial mode. My daughter gave a 3 page statement to a doctor at the sexual assault center that would have gotten a conviction if she was old enough to face her accuser in trial.
My life since then has been hard. It's always really been hard but I had peace for 3 years at least.
No one gives you a chance unless you are pregnant apparently. My Mother didn't help. She turned the whole family against me. Jealous Narcissist. Ended up marrying a level 3 sex offender because she has an obsession with leveraging the legal system on people. Tried to take my kid numerous times when she was with that man. One day in pretrial (she said I assaulted her and took my kid) she thought we left the courthouse. We were in a conference room. When we were walking out she is being carried in my 3 people wailing and crying saying we assaulted her outside. We were still inside on camera. Walking past her. They dropped the case but it was 8 months of Hell. CPS basically had me on probation. Random UA's and all of it. She has still tried to take her. Tried getting me locked in a looney bin, seduce my boyfriends ect.
I never wanted that life. I had to run a way because she sent me to 2 troubled teen c0ncentrati0n camps at age 12. Neither troubled nor a teen. Ruined my life. I was always top of my class. The irony is that a class of drugs that can be a blessing for someone who is in misery and in desperate need for the amazing relief that an opioid can deliver, is also the same drug that can bring incredible pain and suffering if used incorrectly 😭😔

Growing up seeing your mother near death on a nightly basis results in C-PTSD. These memories play over and over in my head. Maybe it’s because of fear. Maybe it’s because my childhood was my rock bottom. Child neglect and abuse; physical, sexual, emotional, psychological all comes with having an addict parent. It took a hell of a lot of therapy, court action and little justice I received for me to get past it. How is the plan indicated of not stigmatizing addiction going to effect other children who are currently in the position we were once in? How did it effect you? Do you ever wonder who and what you could have been in this life if only your parents weren’t addicts? I think about it all the time.
Clean and sober 828 days!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻💙 after 5 weeks in a coma on life support! 2 brain surgeries for a massive bleed and abscess in the frontal lobe of my brain! Also had to battle sepsis and meningitis on top of necrotizing fasciitis in my arms that I had to have major surgery on! Thank God I am still myself and I’m sober! Thanks to the docs at SCL Good Samaritan ICU in Lafayette Colorado and the ambulance crews that had to deal with me in my worst state! Thank you for saving my life 6/2/2019!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💙

When I was in high school there was very limited use of marijuana, LSD and mushrooms. We kids did not abuse or use opioids at all (Class of 1971 - right before Nixon declared his war on drugs). Clearly, since that declaration and due in large part to it, addiction has steadily risen. Stop the war, save the lives of the addicted. Legalize drugs and pour as much money needed into treatment. Our government has been duplicitous for far too long....
And other countries are always blamed. I can't help to think our government has something to do with drugs getting into this nation and others. I think that's why, at least, two wars happened. Oil and opioid.
People who "abuse" opioids are doing so often to cope with psychological trauma. People should be careful to label them "ignorant" when they don't know what pain they are dealing with. It also appears that some people do not produce enough natural opiates so they may need supplementation but until very recently nobody has begun to research opiates for psychiatry.

I abused pills for around a decade. Have a fused L5-S1 and several other herniated disks. Started working out and strengthening my core. Now almost pain free. Wish I would have done it sooner.
I can relate I fell 25 feet through a roof and suffered a burst fracture of my L2 also known as a compression fracture. I deal with serious pain everyday. I used to use opioids to mask that pain now I embrace the pain as a reminder that I don't want to go back to that. Thanks for sharing your story bud.
I’ve also had an L5-S1 fused front and back. I’m off the pain pills , but on suboxone trying to get off. Any advice?

I broke my hip in 2002 as a teenager. That was the first time I got that feeling of "warmth" from a oxycodone 10. It was a big yellow tablet that changed my life for the worst. I wish I had every dollar back I’ve spent on my addiction over the past 20 years.

I feel for all addicts....I take one hydrocodone a night to help me sleep due to multiple spine surgeries ....I ran out for 2 days and have NEVER been in so much pain and discomfort in my life

There is another side of this, I fell off a platform and I’m handicapped now and I’m beyond the point of just in pain. I have thought about suicide because of the pain and my body is held together by screws and plates and I’m in sever pain 24/7 and because of people wanting to get high I can’t get relief from unmanageable pain. I never over do anything and I’ve never gone through withdraw because I was always responsible but now I sit in pain , punished because of the actions of others.
I understand this because it's me as well. I'm a chronic pain patient, but it's because I was disabled by doctors, ironically. I had MRSA in 2010, and developed an abscess on my spinal cord that was located from T5-7. It was the size of a small irange. I had surgery to remove it, and clean up the area. I later had the bones fused from T4-8. The infection basically went down my entire spine, and I had 3 additional surgeries and spinal fusions for a total of 5 back surgeries and 4 levels of fusions. I was supposed to get IV antibiotics for the MRSA, but it was expensive and I didn't have insurance, so the infectious diseases doctor decided that he wouldn't give it to me, and it went from being an external issue to getting in my bloodstream and reeking havoc!
I'm in pain 24/7. I need an additional, more extensive and extremely painful surgery but I'm putting it off because I know it's going to be such a horrible recovery and I don't want to deal with that right now. It's not really going to make things much better so why go through that for such little reward? But no matter what, that shouldn't dictate my ability to get the pain meds I need to be able to do something as simple as shower! I'm not going to go into everything I lost from becoming disabled, but I've lost alot! But I will continue to fight for my right to live a life that is comfortable, with minimal pain because that's a basic human necessity! It's so hard at times for me to even have doctors believe me! This sucks! It's not much of a life, and I miss being independent so much. God bless you love. I understand!🥰🥰🥰
Look into cbd and kratom. Both are great alternatives to opiates and they work!!
Even if you take opiates as prescribed you will go through withdrawals after a while ...but I do not thinknits fair at all that people in need of pain relief ... people that really need it .... that don't get it .....it is a travesty !!! They just cut everybody off on because they are afraid to get sued now (by they I mean doctors) if not for that they would continue like before ! But it's a shame that people that need it don't get it !!!!

Those of us in chronic pain are now suffering because so many A-holes out there ruined it for those of us who need it.
It’s hard when you’ve got chronic pain. I’m on oral and patch fentanyl but I’ve been on injection morphine and methadone, oral gabapentin and plus a bunch more. I work as hard as I can to keep my doses as low as I can while still being able to function and not be crippled in pain. I have all meds kept in a double lock box to which I have no access, not because I’m addicted but because pain makes people do irrational things. Weighing up these things are bloody hard. I’ve been through physical dependency and had to go through withdrawal (not planned, there was a sudden shortage of the med In my area) and it was awful. Absolutely horrendous and I can’t imagine how much harder it would be to have the mental side of things and be addicted not just dependant. I wish the sick weren’t punished for things out of control by governments and drs who have no idea what we go through

Should be a war on ignorant, irresponsible people not drugs. The people that have chronic pain and cancer patients are being denied access to these medications due to this, they are responsible and are suffering due to others. Treat the people with addictions by all means ...but don't mistreat those that need these medications for pain.

Yes! When taken properly and actually taken them for chronic pain it is rare for us to become a so call addict. I agree with the first part about it could cause any pain become woese. Again when taken properly that rarely happens. Yes after years our tolerance can become higher. Still point again when taken probably can take years. I know I have felt the withdrawal symptoms when a Dr stopped them with no takers due to me moving to another state. I've had the pain pump pushed on me since this CDC guideline has become law. Even though it was only a recommendation. I already have a spinal cord stimulated and I'm too afraid to have something else in my spine. Plus there are only 2 FDA approved meds that go into the pump. Sorry that seems to dangerous for me. Pain meds are not meant to completely get rid of pain. It is meant to make it tolerable. I think another reason some become addicted is due to the thought process of thinking that makes the pain disappear. My meds were cut last year. It was tough. I'm still on half of the dose I was on. I have friends that have committed suicide bc the little relief they got was taken away. They shouldn't be punishing chronic pain patients. The people that abuse drugs had a choice....I didnt have a say in my disease. I feel for the families who have lost people. I wish there was better ways to keep meds off the street.
Yeap isn't like 95% of all chronic pain patients who take the medication in terms of PROPER dosage, proper drug prescription monitored by a legitimate doctor never become addicts.
But hey big pharma has the triple threat. Make $ off the drug, can also.sell naloxone, and provide other forms of opiods in rehab.

And the saddest part of this whole thing is the fucking DEA, and medical field is trying to make kratom as a schedule 1 drug now too which helps millions of.others from chronic pain without the need of strong prescription opioids.

@Humble one - Well said & thank you. I have had Chronic Pain 9years and I'm fed up with people saying I'm an opiod addict. I don't get high off medication. It simply puts a dent in my pain so I can do things healthy people take for granted e.g. shower, grocery shopping, dishes, washing etc. I've never injected drugs & never would. Lots of these videos on YT that refer to heroin as an opiod are putting sick people with chronic pain, Fibrimyalgia, CRPS etc into same category of people who have never had pain & choose to inject drugs for kicks.
I’ve had 15 surgeries and was given tons of different kinds Vicodin,oxycodone, multiple others at the age of 13-15, I had broken both legs and broke another one again the following year and I was addicted. It was beyond difficult to get over it, I was way to young to want drugs instead of focusing on school/hanging out with friends like any one that age should be doing. It is so hard but I got through it. I am not currently 16 and If you are a person reading this that is going through or has gone through an addiction to opioids know that you can get through it and that you are strong.

I myself have an inoperable tumor on my lower spine pressing against my aorta above the femoral "split" and have been informed that pain management is the only option for quality of life maintenance.
This has been the case for a number of years now and I have had no problem with managing my medication.
At times when I can skip a dose I do so in an attempt to take the medication correctly.
I take the pill when needed.
The pill never takes me.
Clean for 3 years no rehab ,no sponsor no meetings just eating right and exercise.

For those with an addict in their lives know this...there is NOTHING you can do to help!!! Recovery MUST come from the addict, when they are truly good and ready. I do not believe in interventions. Im a recovered addict myself, and altho ive recovered, i will always be an addict.
You can try to help, but dont hold your breath. Im just being straight up.

My doctors have me addicted to pain. There is no, “Do no harm” any longer. The politicians have done away with that to try and stem the flow of illegal fentenal into the country. With overdoses continuing to rise and the amount of desperate pain patients being kicked out of dr offices, seems as though the government once again has no clue as to what they are doing.
Don’t be so might and highly! That was years ago. It is almost 2021. It is a new generation. Quick to listen Slow to speak advice to you. If you want to help. Be kinder. It is one day at a time remember🙏🌸

Canada seems to be more open towards treatment, like there is marijuana for pain as an option before opiates. While some US States also have voted in measures for both pain & outright consumption, it's still against Federal Law. Dispensaries may charge less for patients, yet will make up for this loss of revenue in the retail section.
And as has been proven by the numbers in some States, with more medical issues being treated with weed, there's less pills on the streets. This is a win-win for everyone, except the pharmaceutical corporations. The same ones who are making a fortune looking for the next COVID-19 vaccine. Don't they have more than pain pills to peddle, when we're in a once in a generation (or two) pandemic that was first identified in December 2019? Actually should had been confined to a couple of nursing homes in WA (West Coast) a few months before hitting NYC, but Trump wouldn't contain COVID-19 while in an isolated area (nor the killer bees later). Even as his own head of infectious diseases in Dr. Fauci had twice prior been in a lab where these were developed, and in a dramatic documentary (banned on RUclips), predicted there would be a pandemic during Trump's single term presidency.
At any rate, manufacturers of potent pain relivers needs to focus more on the health care side of things, getting ready for the next few COVID variants. While letting upstarts focus on making pain medicines less potent. Sure, allow for those with torturous pain to get treatment, at the same time, no need to manufacture so many wasted doses of these meds, as many will have to be destroyed due to reaching expiration date, get swept in drug busts, etc.
Not even the "hippie" days were like this, not even close.

I watched my former best friend spiral into addiction. Within 1 year, his girlfriend left him, he wouldn't see his daughter, they lost their house, he sold or pawned most of their belongings, and he resorted to stealing from almost everyone. I am the one who bought most of his belongings. Since he was sick, he would ask for almost nothing. I saved his things and I wanted to give them back when he was finally sober. I tried to help but he didn't want to help himself. Only way I was able to keep in touch with him is because he would call me for rides, I'd let him borrow a few bucks here and there when he was sick due to withdrawals. He would tell me about people who overdosed and that they couldn't handle it but he could. When someone ODs, addicts want what they died from because its stronger. I let him stay over a few times and I did notice things were missing. I'd talk to him about it and he promised he would pay me back. He never did. Around 9 months into his addiction, he stole $500 from me. After that, I couldn't help him anymore. It was too much. I told him that when he wants help, to call me and I can give him rides to the doctors or whatever. Around 3 months later, he died from a drug overdose. Its fucked up to say this, but I felt relieved that he wasnt killed, or something worse. He was 23 years old.. I felt like I could have done more, but that put a strain on my life. Worrying about someone you considered a brother fucks with your mind.
Over the last few years, I know of 8 people who have OD. I personally knew 2 of them. I only know of the other 6 because people who knew them, know me. So they would tell me what happened. As far as I'm aware, all 8 passed away before their 25th birthday.
Just wanted to share this. I don't know why, I just felt like I needed to share this in Hope's that it might help someone..

I completely agree with those who abuse and are additcted and in need of help. And I am saddened by all of the overdoses. But also, they're are other patients, like cancer, lifetime chronic pain sufferes, ect. That without help with decreasing pain seriously effects the quality of life. Not every oerson on pain medication is an addict.
I had foot surgery a few years ago, and was scared to death to take the Percocet that was prescribed to me because I had heard addiction stories. I DID end up taking the medicine because I had so much pain, and thank God I didn’t get hooked. But honestly, I didn’t feel any euphoria from the opioid. And also honestly, it didn’t make the pain go away either lol. Just mostly made me sleepy.

With opiates you'll probably be back to eating solid food in less than a week. Likely continue experience severe cravings, but I figure most people fight desires for something. Like when I quit smoking but still loved the smell for years afterwards...

When I had my daughter, I had to have an emergency C-section and I was prescribed Oxy for the pain. I never took them. I was so scared that I would become addicted. When I went to see my doctor again he was trying to prescribe me more and kinda insisted On them. I declined because I didn’t know how exactly it would affect me, especially while having a newborn.
As much as these people try and lump all people addicted together, I protest. Things are not the same for the chronic pain patient and the street junkie trying to get high, they are not the same. Simply because for some reason your child got involved with drugs and died ( I do feel your pain) do not mess up my pain control, life is hard enough for me already.
I agree absolutely, I have been on oxycodone 5 mg for 3 years now for chronic pain, I have not abused nor increased my dose, nor do I have the craving to seek something stronger. Some days I use the full dose, other days I don't use them all, it depends on the level of pain I experience that day. I don't want to lose what works for me either because of the abuse of others.

I know after all these years on oxycodone my system is definitely relying on it, no doubt, and I am sure to stop it would cause serious withdrawals. I have torn ligaments in my knee and 3 discs in my back. I can't get surgery because I am to young for a knee replacement, I have to wait.
@@onlyplayaseattacoswiththei9433 I was not even addicted to pain killers and I had an operation and I had a lot of pain so they gave me 5mg of oxy and it was not enough and I begged for more, I got another 5mg of it and it helped but not 100 percent, I am addicted to benzos, (diazepam), and I have tried to quit so often but I Fail, it is personally too hard for me, I had times where I took more and now I have been taking less but I realize that my system needs it and so as long as I have enough then I am okay, I do take an extra one to feel better at times and I have also been taking tramadol which is an opiate, I was addicted pretty bad to it a few times and it was hell to get off but I made it for some time but it is in your head, I knew if I took some and I do also have had chronic pain even before all of this and used to cure that with alcohol and I would feel great, the whole thing is very complicated and all cases are individual, I say legalize the fucking drugs already and have centers like portugal where you can do your thing. In the USA prisons are a profit business and the DEA gets billions so they do not want to lose their jobs overnight either but I say fuck them all, let the DEA agents help in the drug free zones and help as counselors or give advice, this way those fuckers will still have a job if that is the case but legalize it and let us move on from there, new jobs in treatment centers will be created and we could easily use the billions alone that the DEA gets, end of story. Oh and fuck you only chronic pain fuckers for acting like if you do not enjoy that extra kick you get when you take your wonder pills. with my pills I can work and function and I need them, I am tired of fighting, also at 50 I feel that I should be able to get what I need without getting it from the streets. It scares me to try to get from the streets, I do it very rarely. I work with doctors who give me just enough and I have friends that can sometimes spare a ten pack so it is how I survive, I have my own business and am fluid so I am in luck for that and I truly feel bad for the very young who have nothing and are really deep in the shit without the experience. they need help. The over doses started when they put heavy scrutiny on doctors prescribing pain meds. They did not have a plan and the doctors just cut the meds off opening the door for black market.
The larger problem currently in the war on drugs is the amount of people it employees. But the greatest problem is the underlying mental health issue that people are dealing with when they decide that being high is a better way to live.
I think you expressed this so well. This regulation , control I believe is what caused the much larger problem of the use of street drugs for pain relief for many, desperate to find relief which backfired. This is a travesty in thinking pain relief is only legitimate for cancer patients.

I think the comment by Richard Rego near the beginning about how he would NEVER take an opioid is pretty ridiculous. I'm sorry but I don't care who you are - when you're in enough pain you'll do whatever is necessary to end it.
A lot of people who arent very aware of drugs often say how those drugs would never take hold of their life to the point of becoming a fiend.

Listen everyone, opioids feel fucking amazing, and after a while of using them, your body starts to lose the ability to make its own endorphins. When that happens and you dont have any more drugs, you would be surprised how far you would go to make that hellish pain go away. Withdrawal is literal hell on earth

I totally agree with you! I was hit by a drunk driver that left me in a wheelchair and my 24 yr old brother dead. She left us there to both die. Over 30 surgeries, unbearable pain, and mind you I worked in the medical field and had never taken anything besides ibuprofen. You never know in this life what hand you will be dealt. Education is pretty much always a good thing.
This makes me a little mad. I have a back problem. My spine is collapsing on itself. I am in extreme pain. There has been 6 doctors who have said I need back surgery, but no one will do it. So in the meantime I have to suffer with the pain. Yet I know of others who have pain not as severe get stronger pills. And I might add that no surgery could be given for their issues.
I feel sorry for you. Same with one of my friends, and it destroyed his life, on the pain pump, or Mid Evel shots in your back and neck burning the nerves which 2 of my friends have pain.. Oh try to get that pump removed.... Hope you have money.

I'm still a addict but I'm not in active addiction I've been clean for 4 years now and it's still hard I try every day to stay clean it is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. I first got prescribed percocet at 17 years old
I got my med card at 17 thank god. High with no withdrawls and no chance of death

I've had Fentanyl after surgery. It was only a tiny dose, but the rush of relief and feeling like everything would be OK was amazing. Thankfully opioids don't grab me, but I would be hooked by now if they did. Doctors have prescribed enough of them for me to worry and turn it down. Being lucky is good, but luck runs out eventually.
Nope, not all people who take opiods get a rush from them. For some of us, they just help take the pain away. And never become addicted to them. I am living proof, 22 years same low dosage, no street drugs, no alcohol abuse and I don't abuse my prescription either.
I bet you don't react to other medications as expected either eh. Like for me, codeine sends me to hospital for a week or two stay, while being pumped full of other types of pain medications, because it feels like my skin is on fire from the inside, and I am screaming in agony for days and days. But gimme an Oxycontin, and I can drive, sleep eat, talk, carry on with life just fine. go figure eh. And marijuana, sometimes makes me shiver, sometimes it makes me sleepy and sometimes it keeps me awake for days, so I don't tend to want to roll the dice on what its gonna do for me to use pot anymore. lol.

Opiate addiction can happen to anyone if your on the medication long enough, if you think your immune you might already be addicted and not even realize it.

I can go through withdrawals for not taking anti depressant medications just the same as not taking opiate medications. In fact I have gone through withdrawals from missing a single dosage of anti depressant medication. I have gone over twenty four hours without opiate medications. And I choose to go without the opiates over missing the antidepressant medications. I have also chosen to reduce the amount of opiate medication I am prescribed. Not to increase it is unusual enough. But to reduce the med is almost unheard of.
I feel like so many parents and people in general think that just going to rehab is gonna fix everything. Yes rehab can be a good, safe place to go and get the drugs out of your system and get your bearings straight. In my experience N.A or A.A meetings really saved my life, thats where the real changes started to happen for me. Sponsor, home group, service work, 12 steps. 2 years clean and counting
My meetings are keeping me level headed. I went through detox and entered an incredible Intensive Outpatient Program and then started going to meetings ❤❤. You are telling the God honest truth. I'm grateful for A.A and N.A .
I was fighting with it years ago, then I moved to Thailand and used fresh kratom instead, which recently was legalized nationwide here. While still suffering withdrawals it was nothing compared to pills. Mostly RLS and rolling around on bed when trying to sleep, which unfortunately led to an increase in benzo. Finally quit clonazepam, and man that sucked more than anything I have ever experienced. While opioids feel like you will go insane from the restlessness, the benzo withdrawals feels dangerous and like I was on the brink of a seizure all the time while also having constant anxiety and panic attacks...
Benzo withdrawal is worse, I agree. I was on worker's comp in the late 90s and prescribed oxycontin and Xanax. Getting off the Xanax was hell and took several years and caused me to have permanent anxiety. I was prescribed too much, 8mg a day. The opiate detox was slow and planned and done over a period of a year. Honestly I had no withdrawals and was on a big dose. Going down as slowly as possible if what has kept me off pain meds for 8 years now.
Opiods have damn near ruined my life. After years of popping percocets and oxys i started doing heroin, did it for about 5 months (at this point it was just fentynl) saw where my life was heading and checked myself into rehab. Been clean for 2 years now
I got put on oxy when I screwed up my jaw muscle. It was such a nice feeling. It was like my brain was covered in velvet, but I basically stayed in bed for a week and I slept through it. I'd wake up in pain, take some, go back to sleep. But the second time I needed it for my jaw again it didn't work. I went from taking one or two pills a dose to 4 or 5 to get the same effect. I'm glad I haven't needed it often because even those two spaced out weeks have me thinking about it often. If I could get my hands on it id undoubtedly take it a lot

Look, at one time there were pill mills but that is decades past and that doesn't make all doctors dealers. Plus anyone who pays attention to the news knows that it's China Fentanyl that's killing addicts. And those with common sense knew that when the DEA, the anti-opioid zealots & prohibitionists made it so that the addicts couldn't get their street drug fix they went into mom and dads medicine cabinet to see what they could see.
Then when the addicts started dying from illegal fentanyl the politicians knew they had to make themselves look good for their constituents & wrote bills so that the DEA could go after the low hanging fruit, re; pain patients and their doctors. Even though they knew the addicts were dying in the streets and not from prescription drugs.
And yes, everyone with common sense also knew that when the DEA cracked down on prescription drugs the addicts went back to street drugs. And I say "back to" on purpose because they all came from somewhere. And that somewhere was street drugs before the drug war started. It's a never ending cycle and the war on drugs failed decades ago.

Also 40 percent is a good drop im just saying you dont see the drop im overdoses yet becuase everyone is already hooked . i think overdoses will drop im 10 years once the cycles of the last people that lived in the pill era are either dead or get clean ... I’m going on 5 years clean and sober, I still struggle with my mood’s and trying to get back on my feet but I thank God for this second chance at life because I lost so many people who didn’t have the chance I did 💔 please pray for me and I’ll be praying for everyone struggling in addiction and in recovery 🙏🏽

That's not true. Morpheine is used as a part of palliative care very very commonly. There's all sorts of terminally ill but stage 4 cancer patients ABSOLUTELY qualify.

I have had an intrathecal pain pump, with fentanyl, for over 8 years. I have never gotten a high from it. Before that patches. I am in chronic pain, have no life without it. I have a spinal injury with 5 levels fused in lower lumbar to the sacrum, ALIF, PLIF, with the discs removed, spacers installed fully caged. C5,C6,C7 our next. I have permanent nerve damage. Doctors can't fix that. Fentanyl has saved my life.
I'm 74 and fought addiction to drugs over the years and even to this day. Why do we dig so deep into the structure and ways these drugs are put in front of us when the only reason this poisons are available to us is due to demand. At my age yes, stumbling around at times being high does make me take pause but something much stronger is eating at me, makes me just so upset that I can't see an answer. I hear all the time about how our democracy is collapsing but the drugs are only to kill a greater pain in our minds. I hear all of these people sounding so sure that common sense will prevail but I fear that my grandchildren, my great grandchildren will all be subject to an ongoing constant struggle just to keep our society together. Listen to anyone you respect on any platform and they all say we become more divided each day. This is the kind of pain that welcomes PAIN KILLERS into our lives. I amazed that when I hear of all kinds of tragedies in our society that we don't see thousands more. If we the people don't realize we all need and can help each other then the scourge of mind alteration will seem very merciful. If I go out tomorrow with a clear head I'm afraid my rhetoric would only serve to bring only more trouble and pain into my life, not understanding and a sensible solution to ANY thing that seems amiss out there. We all know right from wrong and worrying about people wanting pain relief seems a very weak attempt to get a the real problem. As usual the problem is just inside each of us. Willing others to do what's right is silly as they already know right from wrong so how is their choice or my choice of how to deal with the rampant pain flashing through our society. Bring these issues to light and and develop a real plan we all can live with, then talk to me about dealing with my pain. I would be so much more willing to help myself if I weren't so scared about how to help the people I love. I love you all, bobby

i got this video as an ad after a different video i was watching and WOW. im an opioid addict. ive been on methadone for close to 10 years now and im only 32. i think that politicians in this country need to watch this doc. what theyre doing now is not helping.
I'm 39 and have been on methadone for 14 years now. I became an opiate addict when I was 14 years old due to a brutal rape I wasn't able to cope with at that age. Anyway, This system is broken when it comes to treating drug addiction. There has to be some other way. :(

I'm sitting here in agony while watching this. Thank you SO MUCH for your "professional based" blanket judgements CDC. It's not you that has to deal with pain every moment that you are conscious. It's not you that has the constant chatter of demons in their ear, whispering, "Nobody cares. You don't have to do this anymore. You know what to do!" I keep telling myself that I couldn't cause that kind of hurt to my family but there are also times that I wonder if I'm lying to myself. Time will tell who the liar is I suppose. 💯 I'm bipolar. I can't tolerate my antidepressant without the benzo because of side effects. Never once abused them. Yanked with no warning. I guess the 90 times greater risk of suicide now that I am off all meds does not matter to them over the ineffective drug war..

I am sorry for your pain, Sir. There are so many docs still prescribing pain management, they refuse you?
I am in Australia and suffer from Systemic Lupus, which has caused Peripheral Poly Neuropathy in my feet. The pain from my get is agonising. Initially I was put on 120mg OxyContin twice a day, but in 2013 that dose for some reason started to sedate me and it was not a nice feeling. So my Dr and I kept lowering the dose and finally got it to 40 mg twice a day which helped with the pain but didn’t sedate me. Then the Health Dept brings in new rules for people with non-cancer pain and having a blanket decision to reduce everyone’s medication, without looking at their illnesses. I tolerated the first reduction well but the second reduction meant that my severe pain was no longer being controlled and ai became suicidal. I would go to bed wanting to die in my sleep and the depression became worse and worse. I was unable to are for myself, couldn’t find the motivation to get into my garden, even getting out of bed became such an effort, and I found no joy in life at all.My wonderful Dr got me into a psychiatrist, who was furious at what the Health Dept was doing to people, just cutting their medications with no consideration of what people were suffering from. He wrote to them, stating that he could not treat my severe depression without getting my pain under control. He stated to them that the require t of each patient needed to be taken into account rather than just a blanket decision that labelled us as drug seekers. He pointed out that my dose had been stable for 8 years, controlled my pain, that There was no history of me ever abusing medication or doctor shopping and that he would take the matter further if permission was not granted for my dose to be returned to its original amount. They actually caved in and gave permission for my permit, which has given me my life back. My pain never leaves, but is bearable, as it was before, and I no longer want to die. But I am one of the lucky few who has been successful against the Health Dept, how many others have actually committed suicide due to their unbearable pain? Makes me so angry that people with genuine pain are being refused because of the drugs being abused by those who did not require them for pain.
Modern life is so stressful, boring, unfulfilling and shit. Thats the problem that drives people to use chemicals to make themselves happy.
I really don't understand how drugs and alcohol can take away stress and make one happy. I'm from India and I've seen the Misery addiction brings to the family at very close quarters. .I attend Alanon meetings and see the sadness and fear in the members eyes hear the sad stories and there's nothing I can do. But just pray that one day there will be a vaccination to cure addiction. Meanwhile I curse the people who deal in these drugs and hope that all the government's in the world get together to fight this menace

I have nerve damage and chronic dibilitating pain. I was hurt severely from domestic violence and can barely walk. My medication is not a cure all but it enables me to be able to take care of my son.

You got that right LaVonne! It is absurd and has to stop NOW!! I just found out 2 days ago that my new pain doc's office isn't going to be taking my insurance as of Jan.1st. I had to go through 3 doctors before I found one that finally put me back on the pain medication I had been on for over 10 years. Now mind you, he cut my medication in half but I felt lucky to get that...isn't that ridiculous! I now have to start completely over in trying to find another doctor and we know how this is!! Even if they MIGHT prescribe an opioid, we have to wait because they will not prescribe them on the first visit and we are left with no medication and that is "IF" we get it at all!! They all push the epidurals and injections...I have done it all and they don't work for me. I have had CRPS for about 7 years in both my legs/feet/ankles plus other medical issues that warrant opioid medication. These idioits have NO CLUE what debilitating chronic pain is 24/7 - 365 and never will till they experience it themselves!! They are going after the wrong people here!! We need our medically necessary pain medications to have a some what quality of life. The CDC is dictating what our medical needs are...that is illegal and they need to be held accountable!! The LIES they told with the stats on opioid overdoses has led to this travesty! CPP"s are NOT the ones overdosing!! 100 million CPP's are suffering needlessly! We have to keep fighting for our rights to be treated! The Hippocratic Oath has been tossed out the window...DO NO HARM! We have to get our voices heard...Soft ((hugs)) and prayers from Texas. xx

@@kellyw.1779 I also have crps, I get very upset when they attempt to force me to use antidepressant medication for my chronic pain. I take a very low dose of pain killer for the pain, and every couple of months or so, I quit taking them for a week to 10 days in order to reset my tolerance. I can't imagine what I would do without them.

When a doctor told my father that they were taking him off his medication (he took valium to keep him calm) he explained in NO uncertain terms that would be a huge mistake .
The doctor wisely agreed to continue the prescription.

Let me be clear, in my last post, I talked about drug addiction and denial- and about those who take drugs recreationally, without taking it seriously- and not those who started taking drugs because of pain of any kind- I have nothing but sympathy for those people- I could have been one- last yr, I had surgery, I was in pain, I took meds for the pain, but I did not take all of them, and I did not refill my prescriptions- I went through therapy w/o any drugs, because I knew of the dangerous line that could be crossed- my heart goes out to all the families, friends, co workers, etc, I have had addicts in my family as well- my cousin was an addict- she died because she went off her meds, wandered into freeway traffic, and was hit by a driver, who kept going- we will never know who that person was- she was a mother, grandmother, and she is sorely missed by us- she was only 57
Quite a few years ago there was a BBC lunchtime news feature on a trial to cure chemical addiction. It was reported to be +90% effective in the trials so far.
It worked by measuring the frequency of the drug and then passing electrical current of the same frequency through 2 electrodes the patient held in their hands.
This caused the body to quickly start to excrete the substance out through the skins pores.The clinic room even had an en-suite shower to wash it all off. I forgot all about it for years and now can find no mention of it on the net.I wish I had recorded it but I had missed the very start of the feature and thought I’ll just record the evening news and get the whole thing. It wasn’t on the evening news however.

BS? Yes, but my great grandmother who lived to 82 smoked cigarettes. My mom passed away 4 years ago at the age of 53, but died of heart disease and obesity. My dad turns 65 this year and he is such a heavy drinker and smoker. My gf's mom died within 16 months of my mom's death from an all of a sudden stage 4 stomach cancer. She was 61. She never smoked or drank. Its odd how things work out. Needless to say both of us always thought our dads would be the first, but that is the opposite. Her dad is about to turn 70 and mine 65 and both our moms are gone.

You can go to rehab, and still not get it- you are an addict- you can never walk away from that reality, you can change, be delivered, and healed, but you will always be an addict- I think the biggest problem is denial- you have to own your problem- when you do, you always watch out, and realize you are one step away from relapsing- not about being negative or, hopeless, just reality- how people can think of any drug(prescription or not), as harmless is beyond me- this is a product that can cripple, you, change your life, or kill you- but yet, to this day, people do not take drugs seriously- it is amazing

When will there be media documentaries about how chronic pain patients are being denied meds? I have degenerative disc disease, 5 bulging disc from T1 to T5, fibromyalgia, nueropothy, syringohydromelia, migraines and abdominal adhesions.
Due to my weight loss surgery and history of gastric bleeding I cannot take NSAIDS (ie Advil). The drug Tramadol causes me seizures.
My pain doc up and closed her practice. Now I have to fight for pain relief from my PCP. I repeatedly end up in the ER and get labeled a drug seeker at first glance. Usually once they review my history and check the database to make sure Im not er hopping. They will medicate me there but are not allowed to send me anything.
Im only 35 and most days I can't get out of bed. I have no quality of life anymore. So what's left for me? Deal with it? Suicide?

You surely need "multimodal analgesia" approach, not only one opioid med.
Tapentadol and tramadol are meds of choice for neuropathy and fibromyalgia. To prevent seizures a small dose of anticonvulsant like depakote should be tried.
Also for these two types of pain and as a co-analgesic, pregabalin should be seriously considered.
Anyhow, as a first level analgesic(s) and regarding the spine problems I strongly suggest low-to-moderate dose of a COX-2 inhibitor like celecoxib or meloxicam as they very rarely cause gastric issues.
Also as a first level analgesic, Acetaminophen in a low-to-moderate dose (325-500 mg x 3 daily) should be included.
Kratom, medical mj, CBD?
Some people just don't get it, and they never will...until they themselves have suffered years of pain being bed ridden etc. then maybe they will understand.
We have tried every combination of every drug available, sometimes only opioid pain killers work!
IF you told me to go down to the Saturday market and do a headstand, butt naked and sing the national anthem and I would be pain free dammit I would be down there every Saturday! The fact is some of us are so bloody sick that without our meds we wouldn't get out of bed or eat!
My pain doctor sent my file to the college of physician and surgeons, where they voted on what medication I should be given with all my various diseases and health problems.
I had a shunt in my arm that went into my heart for morphine delivery when the college voted that I should be given fentanyl patches, (3 x 100 MCG/hr ) because my bowel disease and digestion pain plus adhesions and scar damaged tissue was stopping any swallowed medication from absorbing. Nine years I was using fentanyl, I even reduced the amount by more than half against my doctors orders. When pain users become addicts the amount of opioids is increased over time, not decreased! Yet even I with the college's permission to use fentanyl for the remainder of my life, have had my meds taken away because some community college graduate ( pharmacist technician ) complained about the amount of medication my Dr prescribed me.
Here I thought my healthcare was between me and my bloody doctor!

Medical pot only works to increase appetite, IF you are no longer in pain, CBD oil? Great for mental health issues or seizures but not for real pain.

I have to have 300ml codeine daily or I don't feel normal. I've quit before and given it time but I just don't feel ok mentally without it. I definitely have underlying issues but I'd rather a codeine habit and feel normal than antidepressants/ therapy. Nothing has the power like opiates. Bane of my life. If you can avoid it do it.
Was prescribed percs in middle school for my RA. Took it once and never did it again because it made me feel weird. My big brother also had RA and was also prescribed percs. He passed away in 2015 from an overdose. I wish he was still here.

I live in sf and it is true that we are at the forefront of tackling this plight from an intelligent and compassionate stance. That’s really sad about their son Danny. It’s really heartbreaking.
We have 3 in my country, initially there's a lot of pushback until people realise it's their son/daughter or someone else's who's lives gonna be saved but these injection places also offer treatment and have nurses. In the first year they saved a heap of lives and got many into treatment.
Clean for three years coming up in August, God willing and as long as I continue to put my recovery first! Danny is above us out of his disease along with so many others we lost too soon!!
Alcoholism led me to take pain pills which relieved hangovers and I was prescribed them for back pain ... the rest was a decade or longer of a fast down hill spiral ....
Similar story. Sober now 5 yrs but relapsed on pills. Also dealing with food addiction Working my way out again. It has to work this time...

Also my mom can't even get pain meds she desperately needs. She's 70 and I have to put her in palliative care so she can finally get relief. Palliative care is the step above hospice.
Do they actually give you pain relief in pallative care? There is also outpatient pallative care but none near me.

It's synthetic and hard to get off of if it causes the neuropathy to get worse. I need to go back on Morphine that is natural. This is bonkers
