Absolutely agree. And, GSM has been doing a good job, considering their not the Original Company, they have worked hard at continuing Cold Steel's success. Absolutely agree! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Yes! :-) Right on! Oh, I know how sweet these are. :-) Right on, Bro. I still need to do a follow up on mine and do a Woodcrafting Video with it. But, so far, I absolutely luv it! And, I absolutely luv the Sheath, too! How about you? Right on, Bro! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
The sheath is nice too! I like having the open grain leather on the back to use as a strop in the field. I think you're right about White River producing them.
Totally agree! I like this one and it's Leather Sheath, too. I think this one will be successful as long as they don't over price it. In-between $100 and $150, I think is where this one should be priced at. This is an excellent Companion Fixed Blade for the Outdoors, in my opinion. I absolutely luv it. :-) I hope they make a 3V or Magnacut, 5mm thick, Model like this one, too... I would be all over that one... So far, I would highly recommend this one. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
@@Kris_Stiletto unfortunately everywhere I've seen them they're over $200. It's a really nice looking blade and I would buy it if it was 3V! I have too many medium sized camp knives/hunting blades as it is lol
Right on. I am a big Fan of 3V as well. Personally, I think Magnacut should be the Steel of Choice for an SS Camp Knife. And, in the future, when it's more common, I am sure it will... Also, over $200 US, in my opinion, is too much... That's why I didn't get one as soon as they came out and waited for a great sale instead. :-) Just to Et you know, if interested, the 5-Max is on sale at MidwayUSA.com for $205... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
@@Kris_Stiletto I think magnacut is awesome steel, but I also think it's too expensive to catch on. And thanks for the info on the 5-max! Enjoy your holiday!
is it made by white river for cold steel? (so they could get in the market with a fulll tang bushcraft american made knife, maybe?) because it looks like the white river knives made in michigan that was carried at sportsmans warehouse for awhile, then they clearanced them and I havent seen any more white river knives.. interesting corporate tale if true?
I've heard they are being made by White River Knives, too... :-) The look of it is like a downsized ESEE 6 with the 3D Scales, to me; I absolutely luv my ESEE 6. :-) The only difference, really, is that The Republic is smaller and has a Saber Flat Ground Blade. The ESEE is bigger with a Full Flat Ground Blade. And, I absolutely luv them both! Wood Crafting Fixed Blades are "Cool!" I think Wood Crafting is fun to do with a Knife. Not only because you learn how to use your Knife. And learn what Knives are capable of; you learn, all have their purpose and are not created the same, for different reasons. That's why, I always wonder why Knife People Test Fragile looking Blade Tips like they were heavy-duty or reinforced Blade Tips... I, myself, can easily look at a Blade Tip, and tell if it's a strong Tip or not; and I'm not a Professional or Expert. I'm just a Collector and Knife Enthusiast and User. I just like to share my experiences. When I started Collecting there wasn't a way to find out about Knives, before you bought them. Unless you knew someone that carried them. My Pops and Grandpa, both, carried SDUEDC Pocket Knives and Fixed Blade Hunting Knives, when Hunting or in the Outdoors. They were my 1st Teachers. :-) Happy 4th of July! I can hear the Neighborhood Kids outside with Fireworks! It will be like WWII around here, in a few; I won't get any sleep, tonight... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
No, these are 100% Made in the U.S.A., by White River Knives, from what I have heard. Even the Leather Sheath says Made in the U.S.A. And, this is a beautifully made Fixed Blade. I hope this is just the beginning, with this US Knife Maker, they do excellent work. And, it's nice to have a real Woodcraft Fixed Blade from Cold Steel. Making it in the US, well, that's just added Icing on the Cake... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Check out the review from Gideon's Tactical. It looks pretty good from his Video. Tomorrow, on my day off, I plan on doing a Fireside Video of my New Fixed Blades, doing some batoning and carving and starting a fire in my Fireplace. Stay tuned... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Right on. I have 4 of the Contego Manual Axis-Lock Folders in M4 and M390. I absolutely luv them. They used to be among my favorites. But, I am not looking for a Fixed Blade Contego. But, thank you for offering. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I have been saving my pennies for one of the New AD20 Full Sized Shark-Lock Folders, without the Slot. I like them best without the Slot and just the Thumbstuds. :-) Right on! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
@Kris_Stiletto I have yet to handle any of those or the new product line from CS at all since the buyout. I need a few new blades, haha. My wife says choose, though, blades or bangs, and I've bought more bangs here lately.
USPS is terrible. They misrouted my knife. I waited two weeks to receive my Demko AD20i. Will start using more expensive, but more reliable UPS from now on.
Sorry to hear that. But, you did finally receive it, right? If so, "Enjoy!!!" Those Italian 20CV Bladed AD20i Folders look sweet, Bro. I hope they make some Non-Slotted M0dels, too; I would be all over those... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
@@Kris_Stiletto yes I received it and it is a cool knife, but in my current financial situation I will never spend that much for a pocket knife ever again. I like my Military 2 the most. 🙂
Yes, they're very expensive. That's why I don't have a whole lot of AD20S Models. That's why I am so picky about getting a Non-Slotted model. I feel that as much as they cost, I should be able to get the model I want... :-) Note: My CruCarta Military 2 is in my pocket, right now, at work. I absolutely luv the Military 2, also. :-) It's one of my personal Top 5 Favorite Work Folders of all-time. :-) The Full Sized AD20 is one I just want for my Collection. The lighter and thinner AD20S is my first choice, in the Shark-Lock Series of Folders. My Custom AD20S, Purple Haze, is my personal favorite Work Folder of all-time; it's my number 1. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
And a shiny blade can get you killed depends what your doing. Says a lot about guy who thinks black out knife is to tactical cool and people who life depends on not getting caught
Absolutely true, when you're talking about Combat. You definitely don't want to give your position away. In my opinion, all Combat Blades should be coated with a non-reflective finish. I totally agree. But, if you're not in Combat, then, it doesn't matter. This Fixed Blade, the Republic, is one that could very easily become a Soldier's Knife. So, I would prefer this one to be coated... In my opinion, the Republic absolutely "ROCKS!!!" :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I agree in most cases, for paint anyway. A high end coating, like ceramic or diamond can look nice and be super tough. But sometimes companies will choose to paint the blade because it removes the need for polishing/sanding, which ends up saving them time, and money. So they can offer the blade a bit cheaper. That's also the great advantage of stonewash finishes is that it's given companies an effective way to remove machining lines but it's also a nice looking finish that people like, also because it hides blemishes and wear. So it's a win win for both knife companies and consumers in that regard.
Excellent evaluation. I agree. Though, I have never owned a knife with an Ionbond Finish before. So, I won't know how tough it is until I use the Republic. So far, it looks like a nice finish. Remember, this knife, the Republic, is supposedly made by White River Knives, here in the US. It's not what I would call a "Budget" Knife. I absolutely luv it. But, I do wish they would have used 3V or Magnacut with a 5mm Blade Stock. Everything else about it is perfect, to me, so far. Yes, not Polishing or even having a Satin or Stonewashed finish is a way, in my opinion, to save production cost. Though, I do believe that DLC is a costly finish... I agree. I know this is true because I have removed a lot of finishes and polished the blades, parts, and hardware, and I always find imperfections that I have to correct. Yes, that's a step they skip... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I love Cold Steel products. Lynn is still very innovative
