i was curious what this was for. but i wasnt expecting it to have a real neat use :O bro im gonna use this combined with my raspberry. i always had the issue of it ''needing'' a monitor. but now it doesnt have to have one. that will save some power.
Hi, I ordered one of these and it seems like it does nothing. Laptop recognizes there’s a 2nd screen with 4K connected to it. But asides that it dosent work like i assumed. Tried changing resolutions and it just does nothing. What I presumed was it could trick my laptop into believing it can output a 1920 x 1080p or even 4K resolution after plugging in the fake 4K screen. But nothing works. Apart it detecting the 2nd display it cannot change my laptops’s custom 1366 x 768 resolution to 1080p resolution and thats the main reason I bought the dummy plug.
I just saw that there is also a 8k dummy plug but it only supports 60hz and not 120. Do yo u think the custom resolution with 144hz would look the same with the 8k one as with the 4k one?
hey man do you know if there's any of these that support 3440 x 1440 at 120hz? I've seen a 4k 120hz one on amazon but a review said it has no ultrawide support
@@BlandManStudios So does it matter which dummy plug I use? For example its resolution or refresh rate as all the dummy olugs specify this and I don't know if it's relevant.
Love your work, looking forward to your looking-glass videos
Does it work on xbox one consoles?
Thanks great tips, im a beginner about to order now, because my old extender boxes just stop working...
Glad you liked the video but I want to make sure it's clear that this is not an extender. It is just an HDMI plug that goes nowhere
Can you plug one into a monitor and another one into a pc or no? Like, can I use something like this to ditch the cables and cords all together?
I'm sure something like that exists but this is way more useless
You just plug one end into your PC and that's it. Nothin happens. No display
Sounds like you're thinking of Wireless HDMI, they still have wires and boxes, but the connection itself is at least done wirelessly.
You are talking about aver the air HDMI transmission (wireless), this isn't that, this is a dummy plug.

Raspberry Pi is a great idea!

So if I understood correctly you were trying to change your main monitor resolution by buying the dummy plug?
@@awol2 yes yes. But it never worked.
@@lessismoree98 that not going to work, your screen has a physical resolution, it's not going to change it.
1 year later .. is the dummy plug still needed or have there been further developments ?
is it easy now to setup vfio unlike a year or two ago i see nvidia has open source driers now so it must be easy now right?
there is no real open source nvidia drivers
Im using my chromecast on my new monitor and it has only hdmi ports and i have no sound. Can i use this adapter to put my headphones dongle in?
I dont think this adapter will help. It doesnt have any place to plug headphones in
@@BlandManStudios my headphones has type c dongle. Basically bluetooth dongle. Thank you for the response🙏🏽
Ooo.. I thought this was an adapter. Sorry😅
Ahh gocha. This doesnt have usb-c or bluetooth either
It is just an HDMI to nothing
@@josef7601 yeah no worries, glad my video and comments could help make sure youre not buying the wrong thing
Hey there, can you continue the video and show how the guest linux would run on this resolution? Thanks a lot.

You can use moonlight right?
I don't know if I know what moonlight is?
Yes you can, just install sunshine inside VM
@@BlandManStudios it's remote streaming gaming client tool, combined with sunshine host/server
if i plug this in to my gaming laptop will it enable dedicated gpu even for my internal display?
I am interested in this did you find any answers?
@f-i-n-n6231 didn't work but I did get access to pc nvidea control panel settings without an actual monitor
@@f-i-n-n6231the answer is no until your laptop has a mux switch
@@f-i-n-n6231 Did you have the opportunity to purchase and try it?
awsome stuff as always!
Thanks!

or even 2560 x 1080 at 120hz since amd fsr in looking glass does a pretty good job
Thanks for the review!
Link to the product in Amazon?
I think it was this one

@@BlandManStudios okay thank you
Hi would this work from my cctv to my tv
Probably not. If you're trying to connect two things, this dummy plug wouldn't be helpful. It can only be connected to one device
So it's not like hdmi to hdmi wireless?
It's like "hdmi to nothing"
The video goes out the HDMI port but doesn't get displayed anywhere
@@BlandManStudios So does it matter which dummy plug I use? For example its resolution or refresh rate as all the dummy olugs specify this and I don't know if it's relevant.
Is this work in smart monitor
I'm not sure if I know what "smart monitor" is?
Will these work on an iPhone 14 pro max?
If it has a full size HDMI port, I think the answer would be yes
that's why qemu/KVM with GPU passthrough has a bad performance I guess :(
Thx bro
hell yeah!
