I've been to over 3000 gigs. I've been crushed, cut, bashed, stomped on, head-butted, electrocuted, hit with all manner of objects both accidental and deliberate, fallen over, been pushed over, had my hair pulled out, broken a few bones, and even been carted off in an ambulance once. All of those things happened at completely different times at different shows. I could have saved a lot of trouble by just going to a Hanatarash gig and experienced all of it in one night. Imagine being chased around by an excavator whilst dodging sheets of glass being thrown at you, and then the building you're in gets demolished and falls down around you, but not before the molotov cocktails come out. Man, I thought my stories were good. I'm just a hopeless rookie compared to these guys.

I hear ya, I was a teen in the early 90s in NJ; basement shows and hxc/punk was a thing. You either danced at a show or you didn’t…kids felt restrained. Heading into NYC and stopping at Pier Platters and 7 Star Pizza before you took the Path Train in. Lots of stuff I find ridiculous now mattered back then, they really didn’t. I’ll tell you hands down that if they liked Eisnturzende Neubauten, I’m already a fan. Wish I’d known then back then.
I remember hearing from these guys when i was discovering noise music in the 90s and even back then without pictures or videos, the stories about the bulldozer or Eye tying a chainsaw in his leg and spinning around at shows were known. Its funny because knowing about this scene and music and then "kinda" experiencing it in Woodstock 99, dude i felt we were all Yamataka Eye at one point, pure mayhem. It was bad but i wouldnt change it lol.
Now that im seeing this video its bringing back memories from that scene and music, dude what was the name of that psycho that used to cut himself and shot heroin during shows and then took a loaded gun and held the crowd hostage LOL, this fucking scene i swear. What was the name?
This is just an inspiration in all honesty. A lesson in knowing what lines not to cross, but a lesson in just how far you can push the envelope as a shock/chaos act. I'm wanting to do the same with my music. Off and on, I've made electronic music (I have a backlog I need to upload), and I want to do a modern day insane reenactment of this type of behavior. I've had ideas of sampling catastrophies in my music, or voice acting to simulate snuff films/death tapes, all while having an ARG element.

Art is often times the act of pushing the limits just to see where the real line is. While that group is way past my personal line, it's objectively not "trash". Another goal of performance art is an experience for the audience that will never be repeated and never forgotten. The folks who showed up AFTER knowing what that band did certainly got all of that.
@@robwoodring9437 you have to reach the limits before you push them. This is not pushing boundaries in either music or musical performance, its a whole different sort of performance that while not devoid of meaning in itself doesnt even do the bare minimum when it comes to the music part.

I remember a comix-short I once read in renowned Heavy Metal Magazine, about a punk band whose quest for ever more death defying live acts had the singer eventually amputate both his arms and legs during a show. Considering the Japanese underground scene in the '80's as depicted in the vid, this doesn't actually seem as far fetched as that younger version of me initially thought.
How bout this. Set up giant mirrors behind the band set up. Have a welder and start welding , flash burn/blind everyone in the adiance. They would literally never see anything more exciting again in there entire lives 😎
I hope it never happens. Destruction and chaos for the sake of clout is embarrassing. It is only notable for Hanatarash because they did it first and long ago.
Man i am both fascinated and scared by this band, as well as envious and inspired Thanks! I discovered them years ago and listened to one song again just now lol. Then looked em up on RUclips, Eye must be an insane man for him to do this 😅
ive just come to this channel not long ago, but a topic i think you would cover John Cage really well, hes most known for his piece of music 4'33" where he comes out on stage, sits down for a few mins and then just leaves without saying anything. my music teacher spoke fondly of this man, and his view on sound is cool. i think it would make a pretty interesting video.
I had the second album on CD randomly got it with a bunch of punk and metal from a rummage sale in one of those big CD holder books it is a very unique sound is all I can say it was one of the most different punk experiences I ever had I wish it had the CD cover booklet so I could see what the tracks were titled
Hell yeah, I love all of these bands! Thanks for this! I saw Boredoms in S.F. but it was just a damn drum circle, I still liked it but it wasn't what I wanted, I hoping for some insanity. I saw Hell Child and a couple of other Japanese hardcore bands at Gilman St. (hate that place) that were amazing, but still not crazy like this. This reminds me of an S.R.L. show, wish I was there.
Out of pure curiosity, what draws you into these bands/performers? Is it a cathartic experience? Is it a desire to be apart of something intensely chaotic?
Was that Bordems show at the Independent? They had 3 drummers and Eye doing vocals and playing electronics. I thought it was fucking amazing personally. Ever heard os Cock ESP?

Lol they don't even let you take adderall over there. Drugs are a huge no no. There's a whole list of stuff you can get in the states that are illegal in Japan.
On a dark note, it's crazy how Hanatarash went out of their way to endanger their fans and didn't seriously hurt or kill anyone, yet one The Who concert, a concert in which the band had no intention of putting their fans in a dangerous situation, resulted in the deaths of eleven fans in a crush.
I love how being a destructive threat to innocent people and being as loud and desperately attention seeking as possible is seen as "artistic" and something worthy of praise and respect.

I also wonder as do you, what these current teens will miss during their golden years, like you. Shocking & repulsive, who knows buddy. I guess that's up to each individual to determine. I doubt I'll be here to find out though. Thanks for the reply bro.
fun fact the main singer of sonic youth hosted 120 minutes on mtv and he show a clip of the noise artist masonna on there you can still find a video of that if you look up masonna mtv on youtube
hardcore is very much alive...
guns are not the issue, kids now are groomed into being sick in the head with societal complacency..
This band has fascinated me for so long but has only had some exposure into what really went on so I really appreciate the video
Simply for covering this band you've earned yourself a subscriber.
@@fungus_am0nguz644 I have no idea who you’re talking about but I’m interested because what the fuck
@@fungus_am0nguz644 prob GG Allin
Bro, this isn’t music
@@fungus_am0nguz644 Dont know about shooting heroin but death squad fits the other two.
Japan has a pretty intense noise scene from merzbow to diesel guitar.
Japan is sometime consider to be a darker country because of story and events that happen in japan like junko furuta and s*xual assault to girls and woman
And i respect Japanese girls and woman
You are one of my favorite RUclipsrs of all time. I love Hanatarash and I appreciate you giving them exposure. You never fail to amaze, keep up the great work.
"Housedust" is my favorite song by them
One of the most interesting videos I’ve ever seen. Keep doing these type of videos, u are so good at doing them
Thanks a million! Will do!
I seriously love this channel, wish you uploaded more frequently!
Imagine a GG ALLIN x Hanatarash collab show
Oh lord
no survivors!
The earth would collapse
It would be crazy
Shite fest
This band sounds insane throwing passed away cats , destroying stages and hurling molotov cocktails sounds really unsafe
If you like that you should check out Premature Ejaculation. The one guy actually ate a dead cat and puked it back up. Quality stuff.

It’s punk rock. It should be dangerous.

You forgot to mention that Hanatarash eventually morphed into the legendary Boredoms.
Everything from this band is absolutely TARASH!
I wouldn’t even call it a band.
It’s just two guy making nose and chaos.
@@ericcartman6724that's what a band is
Love Hanatarash. Love Boredoms even more. The bulldozed venue should’ve been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site after that gig.
It was an eyesore... how out of touch.
@@aodigital9421 cry
That was a truly interesting video, thanks for making it!
I saw this band on this exists a long while ago, I never forgot about it since it’s wild to see another channel talk about it
Band is living up to its name. Music TaRASH, Performance TaRASH, Artistry TaRASH
@@jcg7719 "reach the limits before you push them"? So a band like Sonic Youth weren't artists because they didn't first do a Mozart concerto? Hip-hop isn't music because there's no melody? I'm not saying I like anything this noise band did, but it is art.
@@robwoodring9437 Feel sorry for the poor B******$ who had to clean the broken glass, p! Ss and crap up afterwards. Should have made the band do it as part of their contract. Lol! Bet they would not have created as much mayhem.
@@robwoodring9437 no, but they created music instead of random noises “because art bruh”
didnt know there was a youtube documentary on this band, thank you!!!
I had to google what german band you were talkin about because you spelled the name THAT wrong that i, as a german, couldn't understand it. You spelled Einstürzende Neubauten like Eistuhsende Nubotten. 😅😅😅 Thank you for this informative Clip. 👍👍👍
My thoughts too! Hahah
You can tell this band was dangerous when they did stunts that would’ve caused harm to not only them, but also the audience.
I wonder, will you do a video on Aesthetic Meat Front? I heard about them somewhere, but the website was taken down.
it's seriously up to channels like this to tell the stories of these bands so they don't get forgotten by the online generation
I'm german and it's really funny how he says the band Name "Einstürzende Neubauten" something like Inzyzene Nybuten. By the way in english the Name means "collapsing new buildings"
Imagine if they sold shirts, they'd probably just cut the logo into your chest
Thanks a lot. If we still only had TV, we wouldn't have sophisticated niche edutainment like these.
Soooo.......Mayonnaise *could* be an instrument??? 🤔
Yes....a mayo Cannon
@@snowqueen_8958 or maybe if the mayo comes in a glass jar 😂
There was that punk group that offered money (for their family) for someone to hang themselves on stage & apparently they had a few applicants. However they were told an accessory to suicide could get 10 years or so so never happened.
Zero class.
I mean if they got volunteers…
Imagine a Hanatarash tour with GG Allin as a special guest
I really enjoyed Yamantaka Eye screams when he was in Naked City. Him and John Zorn are a perfect pair.
So refreshing, what a gem I've stumbled upon. Proud subscriber from today onwards :)
Some of their post destruction pics are amazing, it's like a painting of punk Fury. 🤘
You should do a video on California band Babyland. Those guys live shows effected my life more then any other. Also Seattle band Tchung!, ever show ended in a riot with police showing up.
4:00 well, they don't call it "Danger Music" for nothing. (No really, that is a legit genre.)
1:12 "They two met at a Einstürzende Neubauten gig"
I need some time to figure that out xD
The fact that they met at an ENB show is testament.
Dang. Would've liked to have seen them. I used to joke " y'all better bring helmets" and " make the owner sign a waiver before we start". But ws, those guys went off.
You should talk about "CCCP - Fedeli alla linea", one of the most influencial punk-rock and new wave bands in Italy
Holy crap. I thought GG Allen was insane but these guys seems to have been a step higher.
Imagine if some band to day would have throw plates of glass on the audience. It would have been a case of prosecution. Really f-----g dangerous.
GG Allin was crazier than these guys. This is just performance art. Allin was fucked in the head for real.

No question more than a step higher these dudes are on a whole other level to that grub.
That lowlife and his degenerate antics, along with his mediocre music is a different kind of crazy.
I wish I could of preformed at CBGB nothing better then letting out that energy and pain in a small room these guys remind me of that scene probably helped create it
Would you ever do a video on the Japanese skins, like all the SSS bands like Bull The Buffalos? Crazy dudes
One of my goals in life is to create a band and one up these guys. I have some tricks up my sleeves too!
I'm in!
How bout this. Set up giant mirrors behind the band set up. Have a welder and start welding , flash burn/blind everyone in the adiance. They would literally never see anything more exciting again in there entire lives 😎
@@mikeviolate666 Ha! Gottttttttttteeeem!
I hope it never happens. Destruction and chaos for the sake of clout is embarrassing. It is only notable for Hanatarash because they did it first and long ago.
I want to do something like this too cuz fuck yeah it would be amazing. How’s it going by now?
The first clip of the video is band human gas playing live in Bessie hall in 1985 awesome band very underrated
Was hoping to hear melt banana get mentioned, they’ll always be the best japanese noise metal band!
Yo! They played in Huddersfield. Great sounds!
Overachievers to be sure... but you can't forget Boris!
Man i am both fascinated and scared by this band, as well as envious and inspired
Thanks!
Indeed- and from John Cage to John Cale is a great journey also
He also has a piece playing in a church that is supposed to finish in the 27th century.
I had the second album on CD randomly got it with a bunch of punk and metal from a rummage sale in one of those big CD holder books it is a very unique sound is all I can say it was one of the most different punk experiences I ever had
I wish it had the CD cover booklet so I could see what the tracks were titled
Oh man, I used to love listening to hanatarash cuz of the insane energy.. never even knew about the insane shows.. awesome lol

I swear I saw a video about this like 2 years ago, with the same thumbnail photo
Club owner: sure wish someone would destroy my venue.
Hanatarash: got you fam
He designed the cover art of Beck's Midnite Vultures fyi.
yeah Yamantaka Eye rocks, his other music is really really good
Boredoms is like one of my favourite bands
boredoms toured with my all favorite band brutal truth (grindcore), and then did a mini tour with nirvana, i miss that era.
I have fallen upon 1 of very few 1 in a million different channels and I fucking love it keep it up brotha 🤘🤘
Imagine walking into random nightclub in Tokyo and seeing this.
If you don’t throw a dead cat in the audience, you’re making pop music. If you don’t finish the show with a bulldozer, what’s really the point?
THERE HAS TO BE A HANATARASH AND KITARO TOUR SOMEWHERE
Jesus, I expected this kind of chaos in the US, but good lord Japan beat us to it!
Lol Japan has world-renowned, crazy underground and experimental music scene.
I've seen Einsturzende Neubauten four times.. A brilliant band.
Thank you for posting about the genre of harsh noise while having over 500k subs. Risky but necessary
When I first saw the title of the video I thought immediately in G.i.s.m. , didn't know about this band, thank you!
I see no bulldozer. Definitely see an excavator though.
You’re absolutely right, it was an excavator. I’m surprised more ppl didn’t point that out.

Mayhem:) Necrobuthcer is a really nice guy. We used to go to the amusement park with our kids. I remember his kid used to prank him all the time...hahah. whats fun to watch is his collection of vhs tapes, hours of old live Mayhem. Mayhem are ordinary guys:)
I’d also be curious to know if the band mates were sober or if they were on a list of drugs to create this type of chaotic behavior
I bet they were sober for some reason
Lol they don't even let you take adderall over there. Drugs are a huge no no. There's a whole list of stuff you can get in the states that are illegal in Japan.

They make The Who look like well behaved choir boys lol.
Maybe a video on John Cale next. Subbed 👍

I love how their logo has a Conflict/Crass look to it.
I love how being a destructive threat to innocent people and being as loud and desperately attention seeking as possible is seen as "artistic" and something worthy of praise and respect.
RIGHT?!
Gotta love art critics 😆
I'm beginning to wonder if venues book bands like these after double insuring...
Yamatsuka EyE is unfathomably based
Sometimes all you need is just a video about one of the seminal noise bands from Japan
It took me most of the video before I realized that there wasn't a member of the group named "Vajuo", and you were saying "the duo".
Interesting band for sure; I'm a noise nerd, and this is one group I haven't checked out much. I'd love to see more videos like this about different noise scenes and performers.
I lived in Yokosuka from 86 _91 wow the punk scene in Tokyo on Sunday was wild
I guess they did what they set out to do - make noise for noise's sake. Musically it's absolute garbage.
Oh, throwing dead cat on crowd and broken glass? So artistic.
Imagine going to a show not knowing what you're getting into and end up getting chased with an excavator

Hanatarash, impressive choice
At what point do you stop billing yourselves as a band and just start a demolition company?
The two members met at a Einstürzende Neubauten concert, which is pronounced slightly different as it was in this video.
Their music is like if someone smashed their head on a random audio generator
