Late reply ^_^ The tragic of that would have been though that Nath would have become even more inhumane. Shilo was his anchor, the remainder of his emotions, love and compassion. Without her, he likely wouldnt have stopped where he did. Thus it is one of these classic tragic examples of where a certain level of individual suffering is required to prevent more collective suffering. Overall, it is a "coming of age" story mixed with social criticism. Both often require the progression through and display of pain and suffering as element for the development.
In my ultimate ending Shilo takes Geneco to save Mag and in the next film Mag has to keep Shilo tethered to her humanity while paying the price for saving her godmom 😅
I love how Mag is portrayed as unrealistically beautiful, almost like a doll and it really reflects the darker undertones of this movie. She's nothing more than a product, and she's trying to warn Shilo the world isn't some grand place for adventure. I wish Mag could've taken Shilo and ran away, but they had to take down Geneco. There were some pretty cheesy moments and i absolutely love all of the actors for delivering such a gem of a movie. Graverobber and Nathan (repoman/ shilos dad) were my favorites
You missed Mag's narrative entirely. That face is hers. That voice is hers. The only thing Geneco gave her were eyes, but they owned her entirely. That's the real message here, not Mag was a fake built by surgery, she was a natural beauty that was predated upon by the same entity that pushes unnatural beauty.
I love how when saying "it's too late for me" she basically has a look like she accepted it, she looks like she's trying to tell shilo "yes, i know I'm going to die and I'm fine with that, and i don't want you to stop me, I'm going to sing" It's amazing how well sarah brightman (a theatre actress) acted in this film, she truly made mag the amazing character she is
idk if you know who she is it's not all that impressive she's amazing and it's common for theater actors to do well on screen ( plays and stuff are harder)
Blind Mags is my favorite character in this movie. She was a fighter. Dealt with Rotti's shit for years and didn't hesitate when she found out about shiloh
This song right here is one I love showing to people who don't exactly understand musicals. The most common argument is "Why does everyone just randomly break into song? People don't do that in real life". The explanation is that the songs only ever show up in a musical (except for sung-through musicals) when the emotions of the character need to be shown to the audience. Here, Shiloh and Mag immediately connect into song and keep escalating it as their conversation progresses. However, when Nathan arrives, Mag keeps singing as she was with Shiloh, while he cuts himself after the first few notes (representing his initial surprise and possible conflict of seeing Mag after so long) and goes back to speaking normally, however, when Shiloh comes back into the picture, he starts singing again mid-sentence and keeps escalating as the argument continues. It's a little detail that tends to be overlooked a lot on stage, but that I'm genuinely glad is given the spotlight in this movie.
What I really appreciate about this scene is that Mag and Shiloh just met and they’re both looking out for each other. Shiloh wants to protect Mag, and Mag wants Shiloh to live her life free. Both stand up against Nathan to benefit the other.
I just noticed “if dad finds out I been let out, or you been let in”…Mag: “ I should go then…” even before she is set to die she was putting shilo first because she didn’t want her to be in trouble with her dad. Man that makes me sad.
@@ajdominguez1002 I really like Any Lee also, and Sarah would be all wrong for AL's songs, but Sara is a true opera vocalist, though they both certainly have the look!. I first saw her ( Sarah) in " Phantom of the Opera" ( the original) when I was just a kid. It was the first opera style music i ever really enjoyed and was kind of my gateway into exploring the genre. :-)
In an opera, two words can define a character. For Nathan, his .... "word motif" (thanks, Sideways) is "Shut Up." it defines every aspect of his personality. even Mag points out he's a man of few words.
"Legal Assasin" would give you a different impression of the character he isn't "Shut up" he is "Don't ask". He is hiding secrets and his shame while trying to protect her from the world, her history, and himself.
I wasn't really too keen of the rest of the movie, but this scene? It stuck with me. I wish the whole movie had been more this. Eh, what do I know? It was probably brilliant and I was just to dense to get it. Story of my friggin' life.
I just watched the film for the first time last night and I don't think your wrong. It's a fun movie, definitely has its issues, but this is definitely one of the high points. I think it is pretty difficult to have Sarah Brightman not shine in a musical. I definitely think there were other good parts of the movie but she definitely stole the show whenever she showed up.

Notice how he says “your daughter”, to her god mother. I mean technically that’s correct, and in the heat of the moment there isn’t really any other way to say it. But it opens up some conspiracy theories about who her mother really is and why he’s shielding her from the outside world.
I still am confused with the line "You have your mother eyes, her hair..." but she's wearing a wig... that could be the same as her moms? just thought was funny in the end they mentioned her hair.
Do you mean Anthony Stewart Head? I guess you didn't know he was in Rocky Horror Show on Broadway too but everyone just thinks of him as Niles from Buffy 😁

Quite literally her hair
originally, shilo's wig was supposed to be made of marni's hair, hence why that line doesn't make as much sense in the final cut

"Pleeeeaaase MaaAAAg!" is exquisite.

This movie makes me wish there was a broadway adaptation or revival.
It was originally a stage play

They were supposed to make a second one but never have.
