  • Join me on my latest adventure as I continue my journey through the heart of Russia, one small town at a time. This time, I hopped on the commuter train and it whisked me away to Zvenigorod, a town that's like a hidden gem just waiting to be explored.
Zvenigorod has that cozy, inviting charm that I'm always on the lookout for. As soon as you step into town, you'll notice a lively central street, a bustling market square, and scenic village landscapes that feel like they're right out of a 19th-century painting. But that's not all - there are also sacred sites and a historic monastery where Russian tsars once prayed before their grand coronations. And, of course, we can't forget the charming old manor houses that strangely remind me of Thomas Jefferson's estate.
It's a complete package, offering an authentic glimpse into Russian countryside life, which is worlds away from the hustle and bustle of big cities. If you're in Moscow or just passing through, Zvenigorod is the perfect place to spend a day. Come along and let's discover the true spirit of Russia together!

Hi, the Cathedral is open on weekends and church holidays. So you might consider going there on a saturday evening and sunday morning. Church holidays included. The cathedral was built in 1390, earlier than the monastery.

That Uspensky cathedral is under restoration, but it is open -- you could walk inside. It holds Andrei Rublev frescos.

"Znen" is translated as "to ring".
      So, It's ringing town.
      The town had:
      1) a lot of "ringing" springs, steams... (among the hills)
      So it's russian Springtown!
      2) many ringing churches.
