My problem was allergy. I had chronic allergies which led to nerve problem and the aqueous dry eye. The new theory on allergy is that allergy is not a disease. Allergies are a protective hyperactivity to too many chemicals in the environment. My problem started with contact lenses which keep oxygen from reaching the eye and hold allergens on the eye. I wish I had never used contact lenses.

Preservative free eye drops including PF steroids drops gives temporary relief. But I can’t use computers still. Fee minutes on phone with F14 light blocking glasses.

I have SLE and Sjogrens--my eyes felt like sandpaper in them. Used plugs but 1 came out. Also got restasis and works wonderfully! At 12 hours you can tell I'm due as eyes feel like sandpaper again but no issues when I take in AM and PM.
Wind bothers me also but use refresh Liquigel OTC drops and I'm in great shape. Been getting ocular migraines so going with transitions lenses with Anti Reflective coating to solve this. So far my eye Doc has been spot on. Thanks so much for these videos as a nurse I think you do a wonder job of presenting eye issues and find it refreshing someone takes the time to educate the public on much of these questions we all have!!

@@arthursimsa9005 Not at all true--I'm a nurse and can tell you dry eye doesn't go away with basic eye drops. Restasis is for folks who have chronic dry eye and MUST use the rest of their lives. Tear ducts don't function correctly and if eye isn't lubricated cornea problems result among other problems!! I have used for over 5 years now as I have Sjogrens and Systremic Lupus and this is a blessing. It's by RX and every year my eye doc exams eyes and is pleased with the results. If you look in a PDR you will also see it's got zero limitations on length you use...

Just chiming in to say “same”. I was recently diagnosed with SS and believe we need to look at SLE possibly too. Each ANA is higher concentration but other tests like SJO labs & symptoms don’t correlate. My bloodwork is not 100% specific anything but some continued ai going on. Current rheumatologist believes it’s SS.
I already had autoimmune (IBD) for several years & thanks to it & recurring cdiff, I no longer have a colon. Talk about fighting to stay hydrated daily…
I can also really feel when it’s coming up on the 12 hour restasis mark but it has stopped the “I can’t open my eyes in the morning without serious help from wipes” gunk. My eyes still burn and are painful too so I use preservatives free tears during the day as well (ok per opthalmalogist as long as not within 15 min of doses).
My vision was also severely affected this past year. I now have cataracts and additionally, glaucoma starting in one eye too. I’m only 56 so I wasn’t expecting those quite yet…
This channel has been very helpful (and in a lighthearted way which is refreshing).

The best video ever for my rheumatoid arthritis related dry eyes and rosacea that none of my Gps in the uk could even diagnose let alone treat , sadly in the uk we have something called : the NHS but I personally have had no positive experience with the NHS because none of my auto immune problems have been dealt with in a helpful way, for instance when I had my first iritis attack when I was 25 years old I went to see the emergency dr at charring cross hospital in London but after examination the eye specialist told me that there was nothing wrong with my eyes ! The next day I lost my eyesight in the right eye and my eye was twice the size and totally red and almost blind so they admitted me and injected my eye with steroids and I was hospitalised for ten days but after I was discharged they didn’t tell me that my rheumatoid arthritis was the cause of my my iritis so I wasn’t referred to a rheumatologist and subsequently I had further uveitis in my other eye and then in both eyes and only 5 years ago at the age of 56 I developed such a flare up all over my legs that I was hospitalised and only then did they diagnosed my auto immune disease and offered Humira which sadly I couldn’t tolerate , thank you so much for your very precise explanation of the specific eye disease called dry eyes .🙏🏻☺️

What if I have none of the severe autoimmune but just the red eye in only left eye? For a brief time I had slight RA, but after a round of prednisone for a month, my joint pain went away. But since the last 4 months, basically even after the joint pain has gone away, the red left eye persists. My rheumatologist has not been able to give satisfactory answer, just keeps increasing and tapering the prednisone doses and I'm frustrated.

How often do you work with auto immune specialists? Do they refer to you or vice versa? Ive read that dry eye auto immune goes unnoticed by eye surgeons as they are in business for surgery patients. Your knowledge & expertise could help pair up patients with a complimentary treatment with an autoimmune specialist who has experience with eyes. If you know of any good autoimmune docs, please give us information on them. So few dry eye doctors in my area, so I'm grateful for your channel.

I was diagnosed with Grave Deceased and had my thyroid removed 25 years ago. Now dealing with eye dry syndrome, allergic skin reactions, bone issues (osteopenia)... If you can save your thyroid, save it.
