  • In this post-January 6th era of political unrest and economic insecurity, Americans question American cultural and socio-political identity. In this personal narrative documentary, filmmaker Roxana Walker-Canton connects the present political and economic struggles to a long history of African American protest against racial discrimination and disenfranchisement. One Town At A Time documents progressive democrats in a New England town upending years of moderate democratic governance to address a history of racial and gender inequity, economic injustice, disenfranchisement, and white privilege in local town politics. Transplants and homegrown residents become politically active so they can have stake in the game toward creating a governing body that most rightfully represents demographics of the town and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s notion of The Beloved Community. This 10-part personal narrative documentary presents Hamden, Connecticut’s political transformation as a blueprint for American political transformation - one town at a time.
