      Seems like this sentence was not for the stunt, not for crashing the plane, but for the obstruction of justice following the crash. If that's the case, then I don't believe any of those circumstances apply to the Red bull team. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be punished for disobeying a direct instruction from the FAA, they absolutely should be. But you can't directly compare the two incidents, as there are certainly different factors at play.

  • @sfeatherston3
    @sfeatherston3 8 месяцев назад

    Nobody was even talking about it but I said from the start that it was the removing of the wreckage that was going to get him. Everyone was going on about whether he really ran out of fuel or that he had plenty of places to land or why did he have a parachute or this and that: all things that are debatable and difficult to prove. But moving the wreckage is a big no no and something he admitted to. You only do that when necessary to save lives or to preserve wreckage from further damage that might hinder an investigation. Moving that wreckage was his downfall.

    • @dermick
      @dermick 8 месяцев назад +1

      What's strange is that if he had just left the wreckage there the NTSB would have just said "engine failed for undetermined reasons" like they do in a lot of cases when there is an incident with no fatalities or serious injuries. They would probably not have even traveled to the site. He probably could have even helicoptered the aircraft to a hangar, preserved it, repaired it, and flew it again after the investigation.
      This guy apparently didn't watch Colombo re-runs. It's always the "post-crime" activities that get the criminal caught.

    Looking at the airman registry, he already got a new 3rd class medical in November and his student certificate is in process, looks like he'll be back in the air after he gets out in May 2024.

    6 months is fair. I mean, he lost his licence, is now a felon, had to foot the bill for removing everything and all the legal fees. What he did was stupid and selfish. Hope he's learned his lesson.

      If anybody actually knew what a week or a month in jail felt like, I doubt they would see six months as too short.
      I can’t say I’ve had quite that experience. However I’ve been fairly isolated during portions of military training and certainly treated like prisoners as far as labor and strict guidelines with almost no freedom. Living in actual jail for half a year has got to be no joke.
      The. He lost his right to vote. He lost his rights to own firearms. I’m sure there’s a lot of other terrible things that happen when you’re a convicted felon. It’s not like the jail time is the only impact.

      @@VictoryAviation Lol! I've literally lived through exactly what you described. Working on the Navy on a ship for months on end, 16 hour days with no days off, treated like a literal slave. Absolute hell.
      I also don't agree with felons losing their rights, unless the nature of someone's crimes warrant it. Why should someone like Trevor lose his right to defend himself and vote? He didn't commit a violent crime.

    It looks like Trevor did get his PPL back on February 10th 2023. Does the sentence mean he's losing it again? Or is it just a matter of it being suspended while he's in the slammer? You should follow up on this.

    I think what he did was wrong and he should be punished. However, having tax payers spend tens of thousands of dollars to lock him up is stupid in my opinion. We shouldn't be locking up so many no violent offenders. Many career criminals are being released from prison early due to overcrowding and we're locking up this RUclips guy ? A steep fine and permanent loss of his pilots license would have been a better punishment.

    While the "prison sentence" is pretty minimal, perhaps we can all hope that it will deter anyone else- based on the aviation community's love for safe operations.
    Sadly, I feel like he (and others) will use this to post more extreme videos to get likes = money. FAA needs to prosecute to the extent of the law.

      but also, in addition to the justice system which is only the back end of the whole system, I would argue that a society is paying for the consequences of establishing their education and economic systems that create and incentivize this behavior. And ultimately, it is the voters who install the government that establishes these systems that you in turn label as a mess.
