own this car with inline 6 and absolutely no lag and great steering feel. True 0-60 is below 5 seconds . If you read the majority of reviews, the 6 is the engine of choice. Take it out of comfort mode and try it.
It's a great engine but for me seemed to lack the punch and immediacy that the V8 has in this. The 6 is no slouch and moves the mass around well but I think as an enthusiast this car with the 8 really does the trick for me! Of course you pay the price at the pump and some on the weight - and end of day there is no wrong choice they are both great!! Thanks for your feedback and stopping by!
Bought one recently and very impressed! Got the V6. Can always carbon tune it and get another bump but it doesn't need it. I also have a 750i sedan with the V8 and yeah it's a beast but rarely use it. Trust me the $25000+ isnt worth the V8. The 0-60 times are 1 second difference!
Thanks for the feedback! Both great engines. To me the V8 comes with the little extra oomph and personality this car lacks otherwise! Thanks for stopping by :)
@@thedesertroad agree with you I do love the Engine too And yes goes straight to an enthusiast heart for sure You are not wrong there ! it's the $25,000 I'm just thinking I could buy a Rolex lol Car Baln owned by Steve Dinon I had my 750 tuned to over 650 + horsepower making it equivalent to the Alpina version it is scary fast. I can outrun Corvettes Dodge chargers practically anything on the road in comfort mode haha My wife drives the X7 with the kids so....
@@deepseadweller687 To me sometimes it's more about the feel of the car with a different engine then the 'power increase on paper'. Some cars can feel night and day different with a smaller or larger engine and give various pros and cons to that. On many occasions I even prefer the smaller engine for the weight savings and nimbleness of a car. But I must say, I have always been a sucker for torque more so then HP (loved my TDI A6), and many times that wins me over. And yes ... $25K will def get you some other goodies or perhaps even a weekend toy to fill in the gap. Enjoy!!
The 8 shortcuts are gone. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. Even the HEATED STEERING WHEEL BUTTON is gone. No one can dispute that having to navigate a software menu to do simple tasks is safer than a switch you can locate and turn on, without looking, by memory. The fact the common sense has been lost around this is totally mind boggling. Kool Aid drinkers will say use voice commands. But the voice commands are slow and half baked, at best. You can easily press a button and have your attention back on the road before the voice command system is even ready to take your command. Won't buy another BMW until BMW undoes iDrive 8 buttonless stupidity.
Thanks for the feedback - unfortunately not sure if we will see many cars reverse trends from here on out. I'm not a fan of voice commands, and would have preferred to keep physical buttons - especially for AC controls but everyone is now moving away from that sadly! Thanks for stopping by and watching our review!
Exactly; they will do it when no one wants cheap garbage LCD screens for gauges and controls and stops buying their shit. This is just a cost cutting measure with no other benefits. @@IamKeith5
Great Review. Just picked up a 2024 X7 and it is a excellent car. I have never been a fan of BMW’s (I like Lexus & Toyota) but my wife fell in love with it. I’m glad she did as it is really cool to experience the different driving style of BMW versus Lexus. I have a new GX460 and they are VERY different vehicles. Our X7 has the 6 cylinder engine and for daily commuting it is a great choice. However, I bet the V8 rips! Keep up the great reviews. You must be near me as I recognize the streets you are driving on. 😊 Subscribed!
Thanks for the awesome feedback. They are great cars with both engines. The 6 is a perfect commuter and will haul the fam with ease! Most of our reviews are taped around N.Scottsdale (DC Ranch Area). Appreciate the sub keep on the lookout for more reviews coming up and enjoy that great new X7!!
Yes the sound, extra torque and overall a bit more personality. This 6 in here is SO good it takes a lot of the engine feeling out of the car (very refined). The V8 is great as well. A personal choice but no wrong choices on this car. Thanks for stopping by!
@@WaywardAnalysis Totally true!! And sometimes it can even be the engine noise that's sometimes very unpleasant as well (Aviator case in point). I enjoy BMWs noises and they fine tuned their 6 and 8 cyl m-sport exhaust to nearly perfection on both! Thanks for stopping by!!
Solid review man, I need to get a new car later this year and I love the new screen on the x5/7. But the 7 with the right options is going to be out of my price range and the 5 is just a little too small for me coming from the aviator. Strongly considering the wagoneer, can you do a review of that one?
You're absolutely correct - 5 is a tad small and 7 gets expensive quick. Have you considered previous gen 7? While I do think they 'look' better the interior is starting to get dated a bit especially with the screens - the new one definitely has a way more premium feel to it. I have an aviator as well I'm trying to get out of for either a 5 or a 7. Gonna line up a wagoneer to do soon - stay tuned! Thanks for watching and your feedback!
Hello Thedesertroad, I have a question about another car. I've just watched the sq5 video. I test drive both sq5 and q5. As you mentioned in your review of the sq5, I felt car is heavy up to 50km city driving and engine sound is not great. But after 2500 - 2800 rpm its a really fun car and has great exhaust and engine sound On the other hand q5 feels light and pepy at lower speeds. But there's no sound to talk about. You had experienced both cars. What would be your advice between q5 and sq5. Thank you.
You're absolutely right! I have extended in time in both (had probably dozen Q5 loaners or so). To me the SQ5 always felt a bit more special. The engine sound, the extra weight of the car and the interior bits make the car feel more 'made for me'. The Q5 is an EXCELLENT car in it's own right, but feels more like a 'generic rental'. I was ALWAYS happy to get my sq5 back after spending a day or two in the Q5. Having said that - I DO like the dual clutch transmission on the Q5 (less lag), and it overall feels 'peppier' even though it had less power. Go with the PRESTIGE package no matter which one you get. You can't go wrong with either but SQ5 is still my #1 choice and I loved every minute of owning her!
Thank you for answering my questions. I like your reviews because you give us a clear picture about the cars driving, material, seating, also other cars in the segment and overall feeling of the car. I'm impressed and appreciate it.
The dynamic handling pack is not available to order. Although this x7 may not be sporty to you, it’s still a bmw. It’s much sportier than the GLS and escalade
@@thedesertroad DHP is standard on the m60i. I picked up a 40i in Oct (ordered in August 2022) and it has DHP (huge difference...it gives the x7 the same turning radius as an x3). They dropped the DHP from the 40i last fall.
@@jasonhebert2577 Wow that is unbelievably great news. I had a heck of a time finding a preowned 50 X7 with that option. Great to know it's now standard (it's a must on that car!). Thanks for stopping by!!
Im surprised it lacks power. It got a great power boost in HP and Torque over the Pre LCI (2019-2022). Car and Driver recently tested this 0-60. They got 4.6 seconds, which is more than enough. You should have tried sport mode. Makes a Hugh difference.
While the 6 cyl is more than adequate to get her moving, it really does turn into a more effortless driving experience with the V8. That extra punch is much needed for a car of this size.
Man I miss my 2021 X7. It was wonderful!!! It had the executive package so it had the glass shifters that I LOVED!!! I personally do not like the new front end or the interior on the 2023.
Fantastic cars, did you have the 6 or 8 cyl? The old ones are great and arguably one of BEST looking cars in the ex BMW lineup. I just picked up an X5 but might go to a 7 in a short while. I got exec/glass shifter as well it's an absolute must. What did you buy now?
You summed it up with the exterior front looking more Korean than German "BMW" overall nice unbiased review, seems like a good car, but def design is ..well, off!

That is too much for a bus sized car ) v6 is absolutely enough.
