2nd ridge line to the back corner⛺️🤠👏👏👏👏, hanging accessory line & it helps stop 'sag' if the wind picks up from the back😍‼️ I've used a 'V' shaped ridge setup out from trees & poles in the past for other shapes. Always good to try something new⛺️👏👏👏

I was right there with you Mike. Such a beautiful location and you managed to remain undetected by the hi-viz vest brigade. I really like that tarp configuration and your tried and tested sleep system. Very creative and practical. I use a second ridge line under the tarp from time to time to provide hanging space and like you to hang a lantern. I tend to do this when I hammock camp and it works great. I was back in the mountains yesterday above Llanthony Priory, not a breath of wind or breeze, so still and quiet. I didn't feel the urge to film. It was a total recharge. It would be great to team up for a camp Mike perhaps at my permission woodland near Hereford. The invite is always there 👍😊. Wishing you and those you love and all your subscribers a great 2019. Paul 😊

Hi Paul, thank you very much my friend you're always so very kind in what you say about my vids and I really appreciate it🤗🌳🌳🌳Glad you like the tarp set up and secondary ridgeline with prusik lantern holder.
Hey great to hear you got out my friend, yeah it's not always ideal to film everything is it...Sometimes we need time purely to ourselves and not have to worry about talking to cameras on tripods etc etc.
Ah thank you...I'd love to join you, it'll be my 1st permission and in all honesty I'll find it quite a novelty to start with. Hey you're most welcome to join me at any time, we shall definately have to sort a good old wild camp out between us.
Thank you again for watching and your kind words Paul🤗🌳🌳🌳

You always capture your experience in a way that resonates with me; your connection with and appreciation of nature shines through. Yes, I have put filming on hold now for my last handful of trips out but I am sure that normal service will be resumed soon. The trangia burner is still going strong 👍 I will get back to you regarding a camp out. There is another woodland near Craven Arms that I have permission to use so another option. Watch this space mate. Have a great weekend Mike 👍😊

@@BlackCountryWoodsman I don't think I've ever seen it so still Mike. Enjoyed all the way right through to your chili sausages. Getting there was a real mellow tour of camp tarp config lantern and all. I think your tarp was cracking. A mix of a good few knots. Good craft I'd say. I agree treat others how you would like to be treated and you can't go wrong. Peaceful Mike that was peaceful. A good sign for the year ahead. All the best. Mark

Hi Mike! Happy New Year to you and yours and thanks for yet another great video 👍 It was much appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. Just thought I would throw in a bit of advice for you to take or leave it!! My opinion on the new “lighter” shades of camo is that they are first class in semi-arid/arid environments, good in spring and late summer in the U.K. but are a bit of a failure in late autumn/winter, just to light and they stand out like a tick on a dogs bum (you get the meaning!!) when you showed us round your camp even from a distance the tarp stood out like a beacon, yet the bivi bag was hardly noticeable from the dark earth. You are right the camo netting would have helped to take the shine off the tarp and of course you know those woods better than anybody here on the tube, but my humble opinion is in the shade of pine woods in the U.K. the best camo by far is the older DPM. Case in point, 3 blokes walking up a hedge line in winter 2 in the new style army field jackets, stood out like a sore thumb, the last bloke in old DPM could hardly been seen ! This is by no means any sort of criticism just an old soldiers observation! Once again great video. ATB Clive from deepest Dorset

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  5 лет назад

Hi Clive, same to you my good friend and thank you so much for watching.... Yeah I noticed on several occasions that the multicam on that tarp almost glows light green! You Sir are exactly right in what you say, I think in all honesty that just a O.D green tarp would have been far more effective that day. Yes the tarp stood out, I knew that this would be an issue as i'd been to that location several times before. The reason I wasn't too worried was the fact that from off the trails the woodland is practically pitch black, and in all honesty the only thing that would give me away would have been a fire. Where smoke and of couse the fire itself would be an instant give away. No chance of a Dakota fire pit/ hole there to hide a fire as the grounds all root and rock. Yes DPM is the go to camo for us here and I do own a basha in it. I wanted to cover the 'arrowhead wedge with cover' config that day and ideally I need a square tarp. So really I had just the Multicam to work with, not ideal I know and believe me Clive I value your opinion very very highly as you are an ex soldier....I have the utmost respect for you sir and you sharing your superb knowledge on this matter with me👍🏻🌳🌳🌳
Hey my favourite camo for our woodlands has to be German military flectarn, wow it blends in so well, it's a close second with DPM. I've been looking out for a square tarp 3x3 that's in flecktarn and in all honesty I can't find one that's of good quality.
Thank you again Clive for watching, I'm really pleased you enjoyed. Most of all your comment is superb and very helpful.
May you have a lovely weekend and a superb 2019 all the very best

Mate I'm sorry to hear you've not been well...
Im pleased you enjoyed the video's, ah you have the same laws over there then. It's totally unfair and the minority ruin it for the majority when they litter the woodlands. Also a disgrace that the wealthy can buy up the land and stick a fence round it warning of prosecution if entered! It's a good job we both enjoy stealth wild camping my friend🌳🌳👍🏻😊🌳🌳

Got to tell you this..I went wild camping tonight but not long after pitching the tent I heard twigs cracking and Toby kept looking about and i felt uneasy and then my mom came and told me there was a man hiding in the trees hiding his face around the corner from camp so I packed up quick and armed myself with half a thick fibreglass tent pole because we was going the way the man was but he'd gone and got home safe.don't know what he was doing but it was very creepy. Hope you're ok.

      Hi Toni,
Oh no! I'm so glad you're ok......Im guessing it's just some curious person that caught sight of you some how and couldn't resist having a nosey. I'm glad your mom saw this person too! I'm pretty sure he meant you no harm, but you definately did the right thing in arming yourself and getting out of there Toni. If you think about it most people would probably keep well away if they saw someone camping in the woods, or so I believe anyway.
I'm so pleased you're away and safe, maybe you'd give that location a miss from now on.

Hi Gavin, well as a child I spent most of my time in woodlands and meadowlands by a riverside...It was literally at the bottom of my street, all I had to do was climb a barbwire fence and I was there. This is where my playground was until I was eleven years old then I moved to the Black Country. I always have loved wild camping (and traditional)and used to do it with my grandparents bless them💚 My mother's side of the family come from Scotland and the isle of Skye...Its definately in my blood! Lol
I've always been a bit of a loner and the older I get the more I'm at ease with this, life has shown me that it's ok to be slightly different Hahah! I have always found I'm at my happiest when in a woodland, of course I have those people that I love and they are very few. But those that I do love I keep very close, and I love them very dearly Indeed. 🌳🌳🌳🕊🌳🌳🌳
So that's an insight to my past and present..
      I hope I haven't bored you lol...
How about you Gavin, what's your past and present?

Later in life I got into windsurfing got a van made it into a bit of a camper spent many a time away got out of the rat race (simple life from 1996).Enjoyed the camping side more than the windsurfing so packed it in. Now Iam happy sat in a wood be it in the peak District or like last Saturday in a small wood next to the slip road and the motorway....Cup of tea and a bacon sandwich in the outdoors doesn't get any better for me...Take care Mike look forward to your next vid..

I decided to just go home because I wasn't sure if he was hiding somewhere else and watching and I'm not sure why he was hiding his face and hiding behind a tree or what was in his Sainsbury bag..don't know what his motive was but I wouldn't of liked to of settled down in the tent for the night knowing about him.think I'll stick with my usual wood. Safety first I think especially female with a small jack Russell x Pug. One to remember anyway lol.

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  5 лет назад +1

Very strange, you definately made the right decision👍🏻 I once had a similar incident....I was packing my gear away and I could just sense I was being watched from behind. So I turned round and slowly looked across and through the woodland. All of a sudden I saw a dog and a hand reach out from behind a tree and pull the dog out of sight. That was freaky as it was way off any path and the dog would have been in discomfort as the brambles were particularly bad in those woods.
To cut the story short I stopped wild camping at that location. Shame because I was particularly fond of that place, but decided it's just not worth going back as I could never fully relax there again. I always get a buzz out of the risk of possibly being caught, but sometimes things are just too weird and best avoided. If the guys seen you once guaranteed he'll more than likely be there again.
Good talking to you Toni, and yeah you'll definately never forget that one!
      Take care

Yes mate that's the chair, very good aren't they and pack down really well👍🏻 I've had mine for some time now and started taking it on wild camps with me more and more. I think the only time I don't take it is when I'm hammocking it.
Thank you mate, yeah I got lucky as the deer were going at it for about 30 mins...Or so it seemed anyway.. Yeah the sound of deer coupled with owls is the best we have. Magical! 👍🏻
Thank you very much for watching and your kind words Gary, much appreciated
Here's wishing you all the very best
      Mike

Tidy little set up, pity about the other human presence... a fire would've been nice.
    Cracking video... Cheers 👍

Hi Robert, yes mate the woodland was the busiest I've ever seen.. It's to be expected in the Christmas holidays I guess my friend. The thing that surprised me the most was just how deep into those woods I was, and yet plenty of folk around lol.
Yes a fires a luxury for me when I camp, non of my camps are permissioned so I have to go with gut feeling if I'm to risk it or not.
Glad you enjoyed watching Robert👍🏻😊 thank you very much for watching and your kind words
All the very best to you for the year ahead

Hi Al, hahahah! Pick away I have very broad shoulders my friend👍🏻🤣 Yes like i say in the video I do tend to over cook when wild camping as I do not want to get sick whilst out there miles from anywhere....Of course I have a decent first aid kit on me at all times. I'd rather eat very well done food and know that there is definately no chance of sickness or dysentery.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting
