  • Finally it's time to get out and do another overnighter! A lovely warm day considering it's still winter, i make my way through beautiful private woodlands that are showing the early signs of spring. I set out with a 3x3 tarp etc and had no particular set up in mind, just all the gear required to ensure a comfortable wild camp.
Thank you for joining me, I do hope you enjoy watching....Here's wishing you all the very best

I'm the same Mike. I love hearing the rain tapping on the tent fabric, and the wind in the trees/flapping on the tent . So relaxing to hear when you're snug in your bag wrapped up warm 🙂

Hi mike stumbled across your channel & I have to say what a find, love your calm style & beautiful filmography a joy to watch my friend. My Grandad was from the Black Country before he ended up in London after demob from ww2 his father was a miner & his brother was a glass blower, true Black Country trades I believe. When we moved down to Kent we lived a five min walk from a large woodland & that was where as a 6 year old he introduced me to the wonders of Mother Nature. We would walk for miles and camp under an old canvas tarp with a couple of old army blankets ( I can still feel the itch of them now ) roaring fire and storytelling of his youth in forests of his youth. I got back into wild camping 2 years ago aged 50 & all the memory’s flood back every time I’m out. Apologies for all the waffle I just wanted to say thank you for the time you take to make these videos I really appreciate the hard work put into posting these up.you jogged some fond memories of a man who made me who I am today, thanks again & stay safe out there

      Hi Guy,👋🏻😊🌳🌳🌳🌳
Thank you so very much my friend🤗
Really cool to hear your Grandad was a Black Country man...Oh yes some definate black country trades there! I was a glass cutter and worked for Stuart Crystal, Royal Doulton etc etc. Wow mate you have some really wonderful memories with your lovely Grandad. Those memories definately had a marvellous impact on your life and its in your blood and always shall be👍🏻 My grandparents did much the same with me, camping mainly but the love and appreciation of mother nature and her woodlands and forestry were always there.
Im super pleased you got back to wild camping, the older we get there's always a way we can adjust how we camp to suit. Just because we're all getting older doesnt mean our connection with the woods has to be any less🌳🌳🌳👍🏻😁🌳🌳🌳 personally in years to come I'll most likely resort back to day wild camping and lighten the load lol. Tbh a day camp, or just sitting in the woods for a few hours can be just as good for us as a full blown overnighter. In just getting away, that reset button gets pressed within us all the same.
Lovely to talk to you Guy, and i thank you very much for watching and most of all I thank you for sharing your wonderful memories with me🤗

You talk a lot of sense Mike, situational awareness is often labelled as paranoia by some. And managers not having people skills is so true, I think it was Tolkien who wrote something along the lines of “those who seek to boss other men are the least qualified for it....”

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  5 лет назад +1

      Hi there👋🏻😊🌳🌳🌳
Its great to hear that you think along the same lines as I do my friend....I love that quote ' Those who seek to boss other men are the least qualified for it' brilliant mate👍🏻 Such a shame that its not what you know but who you know that gets these sorts of people into a cushy life. Always grinds my gears as its no different nowadays as it was hundreds of years ago...Its the 'them and us' mentality and the rich have always looked out for their own and the common man has always been downtrodden, and thats just how these sorts of people want it. It all starts in the playground where you get 'clicks' developing, groups of kids separating themselves from others purely through snobbery. 'Clicks' are even evident within the bushcraft community and thats a damn shame.. But hey people shall be people and thats just plain shitty isn't it. This world is a broken place only for one reason, People.
I believe we are all in the process of being dumbed down and made easier to control so situational awareness needs to be talked about and pushed out there👍🏻
Sorry I got a little carried away there lol,

I hope I'm not boring you mike rambling on about my story to you in the comments, but It's a side effect of your own style, that you make me [and I'm sure I'm not alone] feel like I know you. One of the reasons I haven't posted yet is I'm looking for my style, You have a wonderful style, Your inviting and seem to be a very broad minded and liberal kind of guy and this come s out in your style. I am a lifelong singer songwriter, and I have spent my life studying 'the world of entertainment, I went to live in Hollywood in 99 and stayed for ten years, and I meet a lot of top entertainers, whose minds I picked, I have had conversations with my own heros, people like Harry Dean Stanton and Stevie Nicks and loads of others, and from what I have learned I have to tell you, you have real star quality, you present yourself really well and it comes accross in your shows. There are others here on youtube who are very professional looking and have all the gear and sponsors, but they don't have your style, and charisma. If I were you [I hope you don't mind my humble advice] What happens to all creative people is they run out of subjects to write about, One way around this is to always have a pen and pad nearby and as a thought runs through your mind [no matter how small] write it down, sit and write a list of things you could post about, I really believe that of all the people I watch here on You Tube, you have by far the most potential to be making your living from youtube alone, and maybe some sponsors. ... I hope you don't mind me saying, but I firmly believe you have to grab the tiger by the tail, and I really think it is the best of all worlds to make your living doing the thing you love the most, and whether you realise it or not, Your a filmmaker Mike and a damned good one at that, Hope this inspires you in some small way mate, personally I really enjoy your work and think you have top style, all the best mate. Here's to growing your channel. all the best.

      Hi👋🏻😊🌳🌳🌳
Oh my what wonderful words....I'm taken aback and overwhelmed (in a good way😊) by your comment/s Sir🤗..Im just all about taking you along with me when im wild camping, to be able to share the absolute beauty of each woodland is a complete pleasure. I'm just a common/ regular guy that feels the need to share what I feel when out there, you know there's nothing quite like it...Regeneration & respite In the arms of mother nature's house, there is far less pain and thoughts are so much clearer. Echoes from a far more simplistic and natural way of life are still felt out there in that connection that mankind is slowly losing.
Oh wow you've had/ have an amazing life having chatted to such amazing people, one of my all time favourite bands Fleetwood Mac 🌳🌳🤗🌳🌳
I have no style that i know of? Its just plain old me, being me....I have no hidden agendas, I just need to pass the 'connection' on. Many of us that watch these type of vids still have that connection but i fear the majority of the population is disconnecting or disconnected. I almost feel mankind is being led astray on purpose, we are being led down a path of deception and propaganda, into a materialistic, greedy cold hearted broken world. Sorry for that, maybe a little too deep! 🤣
So nice of you to say I could earn a living from doing this, but in all honesty I could never take money from something I believe should never involve money.
You sir have truly touched my heart and I cannot thank you enough, what you've done is given me motivation beyond belief and to me thats more than winning the lottery a hundred fold.
Thank you so much,🌳 you are a good friend🌳

Hi there, yes mate the whole system is an absolute joke...If your face fits then your face fits, the 'them and us' mentality is stronger than ever within the workplace.
Ah thank you about the stand, that's an old idea that's been covered by a few youtube channels over the years. It's even possible to get a aluminium version that straps to the tree👍
Great to hear from you, thank you for watching and I hope you are having a nice weekend

Awesome video! Great views of the beautiful woods and thank you for taking the time to go over the tarp set up in such detail. I have literally just ordered a dd tarp and frontline hammock and just found this video recommended. Despite being somewhat interested in hammock camping, I am much more looking forward to trying out tarp setups on the floor, with the hammock just being a bug net bivvy sort of thing. Will be trying this setup for sure, thanks alot.

used the ipk when in army as an op a 4 man team would live in it for up to 10 days .. ... we used to dig a 6ft fire trench and the spoil from the trench would be placed on top of the ipk and cammed up .... it was very strong that it would survive artillery/mortar round ..... ; very relaxing vids well done

Hi Mike, those IPK sheets are pretty indestructible, that's what I use as a ground sheet too. The pegs look really cool but I haven't found a use for them yet, and the cord is really strong, pity it's white, but useful nonetheless, I have heard squaddies say they dye the line and use it for boot laces, seemingly. all the best mate, always good to see you, I'm still dithering about trying to make a video, But I'll get there one day, all the best mate.

Well that pre-dawn viewing set me up for the day and I'm now thinking about a 'Half a Pig Sandwich' with Red Sauce of course - good fittle that Our Kid! Super video Mucka. Hope that you got the 6 long aluminium pegs with the IPK. Back in my day, the IPK was meant to be your Nuclear, Biological Chemical (NBC) overhead protection. You would dig yourself a grave, use Wrigley tin revetted to stop the sides caving in on you, stake out the 6 pre-threaded pegs, lay on the tarp and cover with soil - can't remember how deep, but perhaps as much as 2 feet. One end would open so you could breath, but along with your personal NBC suit you were supposed to be able to survive the initial Nuclear Blast and Heat and again, if memory serves me right, we were meant to live, fight and survive in that damp grave for 2 weeks!! I think I will order myself a few if they're only around a Fiver. I have a JCB so can dig a few graves, just in case!

Hey you know if you'd of been at camp, that you would have had the the other half of the pig on your sandwich mate👍🏻😊Some fantastic and very detailed info there my friend on the IPK thank you🤗 Yeah ive seen a couple of youtube vids on the individual protection kit and its amazing just what was expected of soldiers to do to survive with this rubberized sheet! Up to four men in a trench for as long as ten days... Wow
Mines in okish condition, but the rubber has deteriorated where its been folded in storage over the years. Mind you its still waterproof and didnt let any moisture through on that overnighter. It'll be interesting to see just how long it lasts me.
Heheh! Thats it dig your own trench and set the IPK up, it'd make for a good video actually👍🏻
Yeah i was supplied with the full kit, theres a pic on my vid of what was in the kit, even down to the illustrations in how to rig the IPK

Love the set up, something I’m going to try with my BA basha, Fantastic bits of kit the Dutch bivi! I need to get one again I stupidly sold it a while back because I didn’t have the confidence to camp by myself. It’s funny I never actually thought about using it just as a bivi without poles though! Liked and subbed mate!

Hi Ricky, wow its going to be a snug one with a basha👍🏻 Hey please let me know how you get on 👍🏻😊👍🏻🌳🌳🌳
Yeah the hooped bivi is far far better without any hoop or hoops in my opinion, they just restrict movement and if you're like me I toss and turn in my sleep, so that darn hoop is very annoying.. They make a fantastic big bivi just on their own with no need for that saft hoop heheh!

    24:13 first, great video.
Then about people being more aware of their surroundings and the body language of the persons around them, lifting their heads from the phones/computers. In the past there were people reading (being in their own bubble reading a book about geography, mathematics etc). Maybe now with the smartphone distraction people are more often loosing themselves in reading on their phones (also information amount and speed increased) than in the past with the books. Im only saying people were not being aware all the time about their surroundings, that also happened in the past with books. Now we should not be afraid permanently that a lion can jump from a bush and attack us, or a member of the opposite tribe attacks one and drags him into slavery (kunta kinte style).

Y'know, in the world of entertainment, getting old has usually seen the end of many a career, but that's not true any more, Now with 'youtube fame' you can make your living by being entertaining and age means nothing, forty eight is young these days, and you only grow old if you allow yourself to slide, your not doing that, I ;m only just at the edge of the pool dabbling my toe in the water and I'm fifty three, But I have great stories and so do you, and that's what people like to hear on RUclips.

I don't know how much you bother about nutrition, but do you know that eating fat doesn't put fat on your body? it's sugar that puts fat on your body, so it's your bread that'll make you get fat. personally I'd have the bacon and skip the sandwich....we run on only two types of fuel, sugar or fat. if you get your body used to running on fat rather than carbs it is way healthier it's a process called ketosis. I only eat steak.

Hi there, I've heard of that ketosis diet before but never tried it. I thought by eating a high fat content diet and no sugar your body (blood) would have cholesterol problems and fur up your arteries my friend?. Its all very interesting, oh I like the just eating steak idea! That'd do me just fine👍🏻 I eat a varied diet, a bit of everything in moderation but i do confess to having a sweet tooth heheh! Mind you I love savory too! 😂🤣😂
Its lovely chatting to you, I really enjoy our conversations🤗
      All the very best

The scientists are starting to realise that cholesterol isn't the problem, they now believe cholesterol is good for you, How many inuit die of heart attacks, yet they live solely on fat?, It's interesting that this diet is becoming so popular now, It's just how I naturally have always eaten, I guess if you do your thing and know your right science and the world will catch up eventually. I am a bit of a weirdo, and the reason I eat like this is just because it is what came naturally to me, with most things that people eat, if I try to eat it I gag, so eating steak is just the only think I can stomach, I find with most things I don't like the texture, I'm a bit odd, but it keeps me thin, I don't have the cash to eat steak every day so I go quite often for a few days with nothing, and I really think that is the healthiest thing, To fast regularly, It also makes you really appreciate what blessings you have which I think is important too to keep you grounded. I likewise really enjoy our banter mate, It has been a real pleasure to meet you, all the best mike.
