@@MichaelHamlin76 It was cool when a band that was pure rock and another that was pure rap came together to combine the two because it had never been done before. People stepped out of their comfort zones and started being more open-minded to other music. There's lots of bands today that mix both genres together as their sound. RATM is definitely one of them.
@@stephanieclark9849 RATM is one of them, yes. My point is that they are the best. I agree that it was a novel combination when Run DMC and Aerosmith collaborated. It so happened that Aerosmith was in another studio down the hall at the same time and a new genre was born.
I did the same thing you did when Jay-Z's face showed admiration for Chester on vocals. Rewind laugh, rewind laugh again back in early 00s. Chester had an amazing voice! You two are going to fall in love with Linkin Park. RIP Chester. I've watched a few of your videos, but loved your reaction to this one. Subscribed...from Ontario, Canada :)
Linkin Park's first album is called Hybrid Theory, partially in reference to the blending of two genres. Also look up Fort Minor - Remember the Name. That's Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park's other project. I think you'd respect that song
They actually were close friends and JayZ paid respect and tributes to Chester Bennington after his death. I think we need more music crossovers like this. Music should bring people together. This was a great collaboration!
When Linkin park first came out they were considered a Nu Metal Band. Nu metal combines Rock/Metal with elements of hiphop and other genres. It was huge in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001. Linkin Park has a singer, a guy who who raps they have a DJ with Turntables or a drum machine sometimes, a drummer, bass, and guitar. Linkin has had some rapping in their music long before they linked up with Jay Z. Also RIP to my Nigga Chester 🙏. I dont even use the Nword but chester was a real one Also folks have been mixing rap and rock music since the 1980s. Run.DMC did that back in lime 1984
They did a collab album called Collision Course! It’s 🔥. They performed the whole thing live, this is just the end of the show. Y’all should check out the whole rest of the show, show by song!!!
The fact that Chester and Jay-Z became such good friends that he did a tribute after his passing. Both Legends. From what i understand this was the first time he heard Chester fully belt the song at end so from what i gathered the look he was giving was a "hell, alrighty then" type vibe. Impressed with Chester but also just caught off guard haha. Loved it.
This album Collision Course was the first album I bought myself, and introduced me to Jay Z back in 2005 as a little 13 year old who was addicted to Linkin Park.
5:40 you can see Jay is feelin in.. flood gates open, and starting to really lean into the song. This collab is great cover to cover. If I remember right, you can listen to the whole album start to finish and it sounds like one continuous song.
Rock & rap, (oldschool) hiphop & (punk)rock are amazing combinations. When Hiphop came up and was still underground, they often played in the same clubs as punk(rock)bands. Went well!
This mashup was freakin genius. It was supposed to be a regular show on MTV where they’d match up rappers and rockers. The problem is that this thing was so huge it defeated the purpose of the show and it didn’t happen. The guy rappin with Jay is Mike Shinoda. Mike had a side project called Fort Minor and Jay made an appearance on the album.
Love to see the younger generation appreciate some throwbacks!! Hip-hop/rap has a huge rock influences. Artist’s like NWA, public enemy, Em, Wu Tang, DMX and many more have mixed elements of rock. This collab still stands the time. RIP to Chester!!
Im new to your channel - you guys are picking some great songs! As to rap and rock, idk if you have done Red Hot Chili Peppers, but they do some of that. And, I've noticed a lot of rap fans, who say that Slipknot, they way he delivers the lyrics, is almost like rap - different cadences and such. Good stuff
They weren’t the first to do that. Back in the 80s RUN DMC & Aerosmith did “Walk this way”. In the early 90s Public Enemy & Anthrax did “ Bring the Noise” & the crowd reaction was so good they went on tour together. There was even a movie soundtrack called “Judhement Night” where every song was a metal/ hip hop collab with various artist like Slayer with Ice T. And Onyx & Biohazard also did a collab remix of “Slam”back in 93. I was 17 & in the crowd for that one & came out in some clips of that video slam dancing. This has been a thing but the way the music scene has changed with both genres I don’t know if today’s artists would do that. Back then hip hop and metal had the same spirit & attitude. You should check that rabbit hole out ✌🏼🤘🏼
Yes, the man rapping with Jay-Z is Mike Shinoda. He has his own band called Fort Minor, which I highly recommend! The hardest song Mike has created, in my opinion, was Kenji, because it's about how his family was treated during WWII. If you like hearing rap and rock together, I recommend Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Fort Minor, P.O.D.(mainly their Satellite album), and Rage Against The Machine's song Bulls On Parade.
Yes Mike Schinoda raps in Linkin Park songs. He has his own rap group called Fort Minor. I GUARANTEE you've heard their track Remember the name... And people been rapping in rock music since mid- late 90s. 🔥 Reaction!!
I always said... Rap combied with real drums and some rock in the back has to be the best thing in the world. It jsut works so well. Gives especially agressive rap a whole new level. Rap always worked best in my personal opinion when it came with live instruments and a live bass guitar as well, Iam a guitar player from Germany and the best shows I did with friends that did rap was the ones "5 bands for 5 coins" and we hit it last with live instruments part elctric guitar and drums other part acoustic with rap. The two styles combined are just so much fun to work with and gives so many opportunities
