It is important to be able to calculate the depth of water at any given tide when you are travelling outside marked channels. This will often be the case when you are searching for new ground.
It is quite easy to do, and most will be able to do it in their head. If not, then there is a calculator built into your phone that will do it for you.

Thanks. l actually learnt something
Thank you, that's terrific, and my aim in doing these videos.
great video well explained, It may be a stupid question but what are the duck signals on the navionics charts
Thank you. The only stupid question is one that is not asked. I actually had the same question several years ago when I first started using Navionics maps. I Googled around and got several different answers before getting the right one from Navionics themselves:
*_The pink/purple birds/ducks indicate different types of marine sanctuaries or estuary area zones/nature reserve areas. These can be environmentally sensitive sea areas or areas with minor restrictions and/or information notices. The same icon is used in the NOAA (government) charts: _**_nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/publications/us-chart-1.html_**_, (found in section: N Areas, Limits)._*
However, they were not clear on what sort of zone they represented but most of Moreton Bay is a Marine Park zone of some sort. Inside the no fish areas you will see fish symbols with an X through them mixed in with the ducks. Not very obvious unless you zoom in.
