    This is very inspirational because I fell off my bike onto my hip. So I have a walking problem and found out that it made worse an osteoporosis condition that I did not know about. I've been told that soon I will need hip replacement when my condition gets worse. So it's great to see that I will eventually be able to cycle when I want again and enjoy swimming. I can still cycle a little but wear hip padding and knee pads. A huge thank you for this video, Matt.

    I had both hips replaced about 7 years ago on Maui, I could never Stand up Paddle board before my hip replacements about 5 months later I started paddle boarding and then a friend taught me how to surf with my SUP board. About a year later I was snow skiing black diamond runs and I've averaged over 100 days a year for the last five years. I just started playing ice hockey again but only pickup, no leagues.

    I am waiting a hip replacement. I overloaded it during many years of intensive sport and physical activity. I still hope never need it, but sometimes I think that the best is to replace the joint as soon as possible. It is not easy living under such dilemma, but also experiencing some pain. What I would never do is to overload it again.

    Inspiring story, Im going to my orthopedic surgeon and will start discussing my hip replacement surgery. I've got be honest tho, i wish i had Matt's mental strength. Older and a body racked with other p. But good to hear of top DR like Dr Moore and strong patients like Matt Lieto.

    Hello Matt, thanks for your video. It's clear you have a positive mental attitude to getting back into fitness your own way. How long did it take you from the day of the op to your first swim? Also, did you have the anterior or posterior method during the op? I'm 64 years of age and now entering my 2nd week of recovery. I am walking for a max of 20 mins with only one crutch/cane and look forward to when I can get back into swimming front crawl. I had the posterior method.

    Any advice for me Matt. I was hit by a truck cycling 18 months ago. Had two fractures in my right femur, full broken pelvis and broken back as well as broken ribs and arm. Now I’ve had a setback and need a hip replacement on that femur as the femoral neck has collapsed

      Sorry to hear that you need a hip replacement, hopefully this video gave you some insight to another young person going through this! Younger people tend to heal faster, be diligent with the therapy after surgery and work with your doctor to reach your goals!

      Im dutch (so maybe not fluent in English) I had one in jan 2021. Im a male of 54. I had problems with 3 x 6 miles running each week, and riding my motorbike. Getting on and off, and in the end turning in my bed lying on the couch, walking on oneven terrain for more than 1 hour etc. Cycling didnt affect me much (each day aprox 5 miles or so). I was one of the 0,3 % or so in Holland where the plastic cupliner slipped to the side, probably cause during lying on the couch while recovering sometimes I came off the couch with my leg a bit behind. Maybe. So I had to do be re-operated again after 8 days...the hospitals where full of covid patients so i had to wait for days. It really hurted when I moved a muscle. Now it is in steady and I can walk, cycle etc. I cant run very well anymore and I gave up badminton. And sometimes I have the impression that my other hip will follow soon. Cause I hear noises in the femur head of the hip.....it doesnt hurt yet. What choice do we have ? Be glad you can have it done I would say. Life isnt 100% the same no, and you cant do everything like lifting heavy things etc. An excuse to do everything slow motion and relaxed !

    Hi Matt, glad to see you're doing well. I'm a long time cyclist and I recently had an fall that sounds exactly like what happened you, basically a hi speed slip fall, the hip took the a major hit along with the clavicle! My question is, do you know what type of implant you have, just wanna compare notes?
    Best!

    There has to be a better procedure than cutting off the hip bone

    • @thecenteroregon
      @thecenteroregon  2 года назад

      There are less invasive procedures when a total hip replacement is not required. Part of the bone has to be removed for the implant to function correctly.
