When you do too much for ppl they start to love your hand instead of appreciating your heart.

When I was teaching what helped me was getting a microphone, drinking warm tea in the morning and warming up my voice in the morning like doing vocal exercises.

the microphone is my plan too for both protecting my voice, but also for vocabulary training and phonetics so students really hear the correct sounds. How did or do you use the microphone during teaching?

I don’t assign homework unless parents request it. I do however send home papers for them to correct if they scored less than 80%. We are required to give letter grades for grade 3 and up and I like to give them a chance to raise their score for corrections.
I really like taking walks and listening to a podcast to clear my mind.
I recommend you listen to the stellar Teacher podcast. She has great ideas for writing and she specifically specializes in upper grades.

I’m a 5th grade ELA teacher. I only ask that my students read at home. I don’t require reports or signing off. I just want them to enjoy reading books they love. Students are allowed to bring work home they don’t finish in class, but it’s not required. It’s their responsibility to get it done. Otherwise, I don’t assign homework. My team teacher sends a math working sheet home. But she assigns it on Monday and it’s not due until Friday. It’s just one page of practice .
These kids have too much going on outside of school. I hate bringing work home. I don’t expect them to.

I give myself time to read after work (like fun reading books). Apparently, six minute of reading can reduce around 60% of stress (according to a british study). In terms of homework...homework is another tool to teach students independent and self regulated learning. Plus, homework can be used for flipped classrooms too. Homework doesn't have to be revision only, it can be preparation for the next lesson or diving deeper into a topic too.

I assign homework as a 7th grade teacher, but it's really a reinforcer. I tell the students that they we will do evens in class after the lesson, and odd questions are required for homework. Most end up motivated to get everything completed before the end of the day.

Teaching in room 6 does a great paragraph of the week to break down writing a detailed paragraph :)

I teach 6th grade ELAR & have yet to assign homework. Honestly if it’s a worksheet, I don’t trust it’ll come back. I have them for 90 minutes, I personally have little interest in assigning it. I’m a new teacher so maybe that’ll change

We’re not allowed to assign homework because the parents at our school are really intense and the kids are already stressed with going to extra curriculars and doing random assignments that their parents print out.

Hello, I love your update videos. We have to assign homework in Scotland but I always say it's not an issue if they can't complete it. Would you mind letting me know where you get the maths morning work from? they look great.

Could you please share where you got the 3D Mexican star template. We are also having a Hispanic Heritage celebration at our school and I think the stars are a great craft to display!

I have a question since you know fifth grade so well. I've recently begun subbing and whenever I sub, I introduce table points for the day (most teachers in the school I'm subbing at don't do this) and whichever table has the most points at the end of the day gets to pick a small prize from my prize bag (i.e., a cute eraser, a plastic bracelet, etc.). I've done this with grades K-3 and it has worked beautifully. My question for you is: do you think 5th graders would be motivated to pick from a prize bag at the end of the day? Or is it too "young" for them? Thank you!

Thank you for mentioning my comment in the video. How has it been working having the teacher assistant sit next to you ? How many student do you typically have for small group when you start them?
