Don’t Come Here Alone - Multiple Off-Road Recoveries - Winter Snow Camping in Idaho
HTML-код

- This weekend was one of the most challenging weekends I've had in a very long time. We encounter multiple recovery situations due to deep snow, camp in below freezing temperatures, and explore the northern region of Idaho. This is an overlanding trip I will not forget.

So glad we made this trip happen my friend 🙌 and snow season just got started 😁
It was the perfect way to kick off our snow wheeling season 🙌
I was out hunting in that same weather here in N Idaho. glad y'all made it!
How is the Icon suspension? Is it good for high speed and rough offroading ?
Great Adventure! With Good Friends!
Love The Video! Beautiful Snow!
If I had to get stuck somewhere, Nate would definitely be on my top 5 list of dudes to have in the group! Lots of struggle, but what the heck, that's what you're out there for, the adventure!
Absolutely!
Glad to see everyone made it out safely. Seems like short wheelbase and a light rig makes a difference in the snow.
Yeah that Delica did really well in the snow
I would not have the patience to constantly stop and unstuck myself out of these snow drifts. Props to you guys!
I like this, a good humbling experience is needed every once in a while to show us we arent invincible and it looked fun!
That looks COLD. The "crunchy tent" in the morning 🤯
As the temperature drops so does the air pressure in your tires. Great video Ed 👍. Thanks for going through all of that to make it. It actually looks like a lot of fun though 😀.
very true! Definitely something to consider when initially airing down
What awesome memories you made with some good friends, besides who doesn't like to go out and play in the snow
thanks for sharing, these kinds of challenging trips are good to test resolve and determination while at the same time having fun in a beautiful environment. That dudes van is f'n rad!
Breath taking scenery from the drone ..good video guys
God bless you and show you the right path
I saw that Tundra just yesterday in Seattle! Can't miss it with the orange paint and the Icon badging.
The things you go through to entertain us!!! Thanks 🤙
Tryin! 👊
Great video! If you wrap the heater hose to insulate it your heater will be a lot more efficient. Keep up the adventures.
Thanks for the tip! 👊
Looked like a great trip filled with some challenges!
Cast Iron frying pan and diesel heater for the win!!!! Awesome video
This footage is gold !
Great one ED. back in the 70's in Northern Ohio we would take off our "Monster Mudder's" off and put on our narrow snow tires (we could still use studs)---- but the tires you guy's use are for the best of both worlds-- keep up the great work!
Man I love your videos!
I just found them today , and I’ve already hooked ! I own a 2020 ram 1500 classic and been in some awesome places in BC Canada !
I live in northern Japan, and the snow here gets ridiculous. There's a overlander here that has his Delica kitted out nice. The guy even put a snow plow on it. It's crazy seeing him plow through the mountains on his way to camp.
I believe in the capability of the Delica after seeing it perform this weekend!
I didn't read your comment about the snow plow my bad.
Love this episode Edward! You released this video right after I got back from a snow trip of my own. I’m going to have to pick up one of those diesel heaters!
One thing I’ve learned from snow wheeling a few days ago is that I’m convinced I’m just going to chain up right at the start in deep snow. I have these auto ratcheting chains that are easy to put on, about 3 minutes on / off. I’m 15 minutes into your episode, so not sure if you will use chains on this video, but I highly recommend them. Take care Edward! Hope to get the chance to hang again one day!
❤sweet! Mitsubishi looks mint! I almost went for an endeavour! Hitting the east coast in a day or two. Hope I can make it out before it becomes impassible. LOVE my beaver dam trail in winter.
You got more snow than we did up here in Canada. Be safe out there!
It was different not watching everyone eating their camp dinner. It's kind of nice for a change. Did the skillet and bottle jack work? I liked that.
You are in my neck of the woods! Its gorgeous out here. At least you didn't run into a Grizzly, they are all asleep right now. But, they can make trips a whole new level of exciting.
Currently watching the video on my tv, Had to get on my phone to comment. Good video so far ed. snow is no joke. Especially when you run into ice on the hills.
Absolutely. Can’t be too careful out there, that’s for aure
Heck yeah buddy!
I love your videos man, extremely high quality, fun and inspiring
Great video! Looks like a lot of fun, and a few headaches haha. Glad I found your channel. Safe travels!
That’s crazy Brother
Awesome content…. You are so right in everything you say… made the best of it no matter what
I have those exact wheels on my Jeep. Guess I will keep them at or over 10!
Great video..I work for O'Reillys,I drive big rigs for them..If I was with you he could have gotten a big discount on the parts he would need..Be safe out on your adventures my friend
I appreciate it my friend! 🙏
Awesome video ! Looked like a real lot of work but fun. You guys handled it well !
I'm from the panhandle in Sandpoint ID where I learned about wheeling from my dad. Snow wheeling has always been a part of my life and was wondering where you guys were playing at?
Ed, we all go alone sometimes and it is not ideal and this weekend I found that out in the Cherokee National forest doing a section of the Smoky Mountain 1000. No cell service so I had no weather radar or forcast (which changed after I went in and I had no idea) and things got interesting on day 2. A high wind warning was issued for the high elevation areas which I picked up on NWS radio in Chattanooga. I was out there and committed to finishing the section however, I got caught out in a wind driven storm on top of a ridge. It got so dark I had to turn on my light bar to see. It scared me but I am home and it made me think hard about what happened. No, I didn't finish the section but I will in the spring.
Glad to hear you made it back safely Jeff. Definitely knowing when to call it and safely get home is crucial 🙏
tire chains #pummmmm. Amazing by the way...
I see that protection you got there... 💪🔫 awesome snow wheeling and camping dude. I'm right over in Washington.
How is the vinyl tube off the diesel heater? Some people mentioned melting and bad smell from the hose? A tip for you the exhaust should be always angled down unless you have a drain hole drilled into tube. Many people forget water build up
No bad smell so far. I bought a separate tube and it seems to hold up. Didn’t know that about the exhaust!
I’ve seen a couple of your videos. Just subscribed..!!
Y’all just need to weld a woodburning fire stove on a old metal hood sled and just pull it behind you, so when you get stuck, you can stay warm and keep the fire burning as you’re going down the trail lol
Great video but more night footage would be perfect! great setup!
Radical!!!!
Wow! What an adventure. I hope to learn from you and others about handling such snowy situations. I go deer and elk hunting in the mountains of eastern Oregon and run into mud or snow situations on occasion (though, not that deep of snow - yet!). Keep up with the great videos. Don From Oregon.
Oregon native myself….the one thing I have learned from watching Nate is that wheel spin is not your friend in the snow. I always just hit it hard when I was younger. After following Nate, Edward and the rest of the gang I started trying to crawl through the powder and it’s amazing how much farther you can go with a little patience and finesse.
Thanks Don! I’m still learning myself every time I go out
100%
Whatever flips your switches. Happy holidays!
I am really wanting to get a ram now over the tundra or a tacoma when I am back in the states. Love the tacoma but with a family of 5 it would be tight.
From 24:30ish - winning!
Taking those vehicles equipped like that is like wearing flips flops in deep snow and wondering why your feet are always wet and why your sandals keep coming off.
i was hoping you guys would pull out the wicked snow chains
I said it at Mate's place, and I'll say it here: at 23, I'm all about this. 43 and beyond, screw all this work! 😄
I have just a few short years left !
I wouldn't want a sprinter van a everyday driver but a van has basically know setup which would be nice in cold condition i would thinks, Thank you for your reply .
Did you try lighter fluid or hair spray to pop the tire back in place?
The tire was unbeaded on the outside of the tire, so unfortunately that wasn’t an option
Savage brother! Diggin that diesel heater tire shelf! Where'd you find that bro? Awesome video my friend.

@@KrokemOutdoors Thank you Brother!
When the rear of Nate’s Tacoma wanted to keep sliding down hill, was his rear locker on? Having lockers on while on slippery off chamber trails, the rig will slide across the trail more times than not.
❤ the channel , I have a Ram Rebel myself and I’m going through the process of lifting , tires and rims . I noticed you are running the KM3 in the snow , how well do you feel they performed . So far all places I go to and suggest them keep steering me away when I bring up snow and rain lol
if you wheel in THAT MUCH snow. You might as well get a set of tracks
Here I am sitting in surf trunks with a pillow over my legs (can’t find sweatpants) and a hoodie jacket on as it’s a little chilly here in Honolulu (about 68°F) and I can’t close up my house.
I love Honolulu, man. Sounds like you're in paradise to me :)
Just curious, whats is like overlanding and off roading in the Rebel?
How would a Sprinter van do in those kind of conditions
Honestly, I’m not sure. Maybe with the right tires it might do okay, but the snow was fairly deep here
Where can I get that heating and stand that you use?
How much does you equipment change come winter. Like do you need to add more recovery type tools to your kit?
I'm actually in the market for a high torque cordless impact, I've gotta ask- was that a Ryobi or DeWalt? Lol
Surprised to not see any chains being used on your tires. Was that on purpose?
not on purpose. I just didn't have them on me during this trip.
N. Idaho, don't come here. Snow and Ice on the ground for 6 - 7 months a year and all of those freeze/thaw induced issues as well. The other 4 - 5 months are fire season and 90+ degrees too. So, stay home. - N Idaho -
10:03 you said "I'm hoping it doesn't mess up again" what did you mean by this when referring to the heater?
It sometimes gives me error codes, but I now believe it is because there was not enough fuel in the tank. When it gets to about one to 2/10 of the tank remaining, it will trigger the error code
Hello. Great Video! QUESTION??? Where did you get that rack for your tire that held your diesel heater?? I’m thinking this would be great for my Van without drilling holes. Thanks 👍👍👍
Here you go 🤙:

@@KrokemOutdoors Thank You. 👍
Honestly it just seems like a bunch of boys and their toys.
yup, pretty much
It’s about adventure
Is thee a good reason why no one is 'chained up' all 4 tires or is the whole objective to get stuck? :)
nope
@@KrokemOutdoorsRight on, just checking haha
No hate, I love me a good snow recovery! That diesel heater is really freakin cool!
Hey. How much psi was the tire when you de-beaded it?
About 7 psi
Were you winching the car side ways?
What mountain was this? I live in the panhandle and we just got dumped with snow
KO2s or KM3s?
you need a diesel heater
Which P365 is that?
p365xl
If you lift your ram you’d probably not get stuck as often.
HEATER, The out let is to long and to many bens for the heater, it’s probably over heating and shutting down! Heater should run over night 8 to 14 hour run time
Get rid of those trucks and use skis...ya never get stuck.
hi , where did you buy the duct?
It’s a 3 inch heating duct hose from amazon
So what do ya all do for work? Or is this the work you do?🤔 making these videos🤔
I’m surprised none of you PNWers have chains in your trucks.😮
Makes you wonder how the pioneers made it through all that.
Hey man long time! What happened to your Instagram ? 😢
You guys should’ve had chains on your tires
It wouldn’t be challenging if you had a Toyota truck hehehehehe
maaybe 😝
Snowmobile would be faster. And cheaper. But I get it
I stopped watching as soon as I saw the loser lights on the underside of the truck... dumb.
I learned a couple things from this video... 1. Don't wheel alone. 2. Have a full size spare. 3. (The most important!) Bring a cast iron pan with you!!! Haha!
Always happy when you upload a new video. Looking forward to the next!
🤣🤣🤣
The same size spare too.
Good thing it's slow at work, I get to watch this while on the clock lol
I would definitely call this a win!
Lucky! 👊
Nice SIG Sauer brotha! I EDC a Glock 43x mos with a Johny Glock flat face trigger (the best trigger I've use) a Holosun 507k 2X a TRL7 Sub streamlight a Magwell some goon tape. I love this setup because it's so light that I forget I'm carrying and it's extremely reliable with no malfunction after a few thousand rds. Keep up the great content!
Switching over my carry to g19 soon for the winter. Good ol’ Glock reliability 👍
That looked like a tough and exhausting couple of days, but you got some fantastic footage out of it!
It was definitely physically demanding, but totally worth it. Also helps that I was in good company 🙌🙏
Totally digging the Mitsubishi van!!!!! What an awesome build!
Finally got to watch this one! Dang! What an awesome trip! Ones like those bring the group closer together - through the difficulty! 👊🏼
Maybe carry chains?
Fully entertained! Loved the frying pan trick.
It was a last minute improvisation 😆
Hello from Estonia. Everything is so familiar, because when winter comes we know that unexpected things happen.
I would suggest getting a big snow scrapper/brush combo from a truck stop and beat the frost/ice off your tent before closing it.
Hope you dried out your tent when you got home.
definitely dried it out at home. There was a big puddle of water as a result initially, lol
A frying pan recovery! Love it!
Curious how that jackery in the bed held up to the cold. From what I understand lithium batteries don't like freezing temps.
It actually did fairly well. I’m always trying to push its limits, and it seems to have worked out well so far. Now if the temps were much colder, I’m not sure how they’d perform
What really stood out to me on this video is how everyone stayed positive in the face enormous challenges. It is THE thing that makes the difference when in the midst of an epic. Solid group of guys.
How about putting a set of chains on the rear?
I was wondering same thing. Grew up in Alaska and used chains on our plow truck or if roads got to bad.
Yup, chains would’ve definitely helped. Should’ve had a set with me in the truck
@@KrokemOutdoors looked like a challenging but awesome experience though!
Edward, thanks for showing in detail your tent set up. Those tips help a lot. Safe travels!
