I love how Ken “manages” Dave. He just carries on with his response to the callers while somehow still being talked over or contradicted. It’s quite an art to stay focused while “allowing” for another opinion [especially when it’s the boss’ opinion😂]
Comes with age, experience and confidence. Ken is probably the best co-host when it comes to being an equal to Dave.
Totally, Ken is a natural communicator and he comes across very well on video, much more than the other two male co-hosts. Not everyone with good ideas is made for the video world.@@buckibanker
@buckibanker concur he can best roll with Dave, Rachel will argue with him lmao😂
Dave is simply giving co-hosts openings to take the lead in each show. His goal is to work himself out of the job so he can simply make guest appearances. He is trying to pass the torch and mentoring his "experts" to take over.
@@SteamEnginesUSAit feels like that a lot when Jade is on
Dave, your comments regarding owing NOBODY anything, and walking on your patch of grass and feeling total peace were a delight to hear. I am in total agreement.
I’m glad the 76 y/o lady that still has student loans to pay off called. That is what student loans do, follow you into your old age for the rest of your life, prevent you from being able to retire, prevent you from being able to save a nest egg for retirement. At 76 she still has to work to pay for those loans. If she were to try to retire before she finished paying off the loan then they’d take the monthly amount for the loan out of her Social Security and she’d have nothing left over to live on. And, yes, like Ken said, she’s not even working in the field she graduated in. This is true slavery, being forced to work until age 76 or older, to pay off a student loan debt. What kind of retirement future does she have to look forward to? A sad future. Pay those loans off ASAP!
Yep. they can't be discharged, even in bankruptcy and her Social Security will be garnished if she stops paying them. This is NOT slavery - this is a person who put off paying what she OWED and didn't stop long enough to figure out the consequences. But I bet she had money to pay for her "wants" the last 20 years while she kept postponing paying what she owed. Loans don't prevent you from doing anything - they are a CHOICE when other options are available. Stop playing the victim card. Taxpayers are supporting your bad choices.
My heart went out to her. Choose a degree and career wisely and for 0 debt. The mindset decades back was the importance of getting a college degree no matter what the cost. I’m hoping the mindset continues to change and that people follow and choose not to go into to get in over their heads.
That’s heartbreaking!
She took out the loan in her fifties by the sound of it. She graduated at 58.
@@davidb2206 she didn’t graduate til she was 58. So took loans likely in her fifties. Before that, yeah, she should have been saving up for retirement.
I became debt free Sept 1. It seems surreal at age 56 - my 110k student loan forgiven through PSLF in 2022.
The 76 yo woman with 12K in student loan debt from 18 years ago, renting, $500 month pension, 9k in a life insurance policy ..... This is a horrible situation financially to be in at this age..
I thank God I was given a chance to correct the error of my ways 12 years before I retire.
With no debt I will now be able to save 35% of my take home into retirement over the next 12 years - putting me into a more comfortable six-figure cash savings.
Plus, the year I retire I will also reach the 30-year Mark of my teacher pension ❤️. And social security.
It's calls like this that make me realize how close I came to retirement failure. God wish her the absolute best. I pray for her.
Yes. Her situation should be a warning to everyone. No one should want to be in her situation. Although, even though she’s working, she should have also started drawing any Social Security she has at age 70. Your monthly Social Security amount maxes out at age 70. And since she’d have been already over Full Retirement Age (for her would have been age 67) the Social Security end of year taxes would not have been affected by her working income. She could have been using that Social Security income to have been: a) making extra payments on the Student loans for the past 6 years, or b) investing all of that 6 years of Social Security in good growth mutual funds in either a brokerage account or Roth IRA. She should have also been investing in a 401k if offered by her employer, at least 15% if not more, of her income. That would have given her some kind of nest egg for retirement. But this way she won’t be able to retire from working until she’s over 80 years old. And then she won’t have much. It’s a warning to all to pay off their Student loans ASAP
@@sallyprzybil2404 I also suspect this is more than just student loans. I suspect it was a life of overconsumption.
Dave seems so relaxed and so wise! I love Dave!

If the Rochester house is on a septic system, then adding bedrooms changes the occupancy level on which septic systems are sized and now the system size could be technically "undersized" for the occupancy level of the house. Also if house is assessed based on 3-bedrooms but now it's a 4-bedroom....these are issues and discrepancies that could be problematic if the house ever goes on the market.
A 57 year old mother who DOES NOT WORK expecting her 28-year old son to help support her? Really? Ok - so here are some ideas. Community colleges have short-term programs for people who want to enter the workforce and many of them are completely paid for with grants to get workers retrained. Community colleges are used to dealing with first-generation adult college students, there are special grants for older students, special grants for women, and she will get a lot better advice there than anywhere else. I had DOZENS of older adults in my classes, retraining for other careers, when I was teaching college. Secondly, a good starting place is to be a teacher's assistant in a school division. Even if she does not have a degree, she can get a baseline salary with very limited hours (compared with other industries) that would not only pay her health insurance, but also give her a start on some retirement. Get to work woman, and stop sponging off your son!
I love when Ken's on the show. Great show!
In the Old Testament, as the Levitical priests were the civil government, tithes were required taxes for funding the national budget in Israel. By the New Testament, Christians were not commanded to tithe anymore but rather encouraged to voluntarily give to the church (and to God) in proportion to their wealth. You can give to someone in need in person. Some don't like giving to the church, because it has become a business your choice. God is good.
No parent should be asking for money from their kids.

Laura and Nick congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉 Handing over a legacy for their girls. ❤
Mobile homes sold with land like acreage at least in Florida do go up in value.
In a mobile home park or sold on its own do not really retain their value and are expensive to move.
Definitely agree on the tiny homes. I see people trying to sell converted sheds on fb for outrageous prices.
That's not even necessarily true, my mom lives in a nice park and hers has gone up 25k in the last 5 years. It's more of a house, but technically a double wide. It's very dependant on the park, I assume.
I agree with most things that Dave says, but certainly not everything!!! Think for yourself, use discernment and discretion and don’t blindly follow anyone, ever. You’ll be an adult and not a child.
Shout out to the San Bernadino family! Awesome to see the IE on the show!! 🎉
Commenting here about the used car conversation at 37 min mark…when my wife and I first got married and we were doing FPU we returned her leased car then we bought a 1995 Honda Accord for $350 that we got from a friends mom. The car had duct tape on it, was dented in on the passenger side, and exhaust was so loud the car was named “ The Blaster” We had it 3 years, blessed us tremendously, and we sold it for the same price to a young kid who was in a financial pickle due to a car payment he couldn’t afford. Yes you can get cars for cheap.
That wouldn’t pass an MOT in the UK. Not sure if you have those over there?
@@angelwings1it wouldn’t pass inspection here either but some mechanics will pass it, though it’s illegal to do so. In Massachusetts that would not pass inspection
Tiny home life is great! The things they don’t tell you. Where are you going to park it? There are lots but not many “long stay” lots. If you find one your looking at around $600- $1,000 a month in lot rent. If you own the land you need to consider running electric and septic if it is not there already. If you plan to travel what are you using to pull it!?!? Generators can run it all but, as soon as you run out of gas mid winter in an ice storm you will realize it’s not ideal. You need septic and power if you plan to live in it full time. Off grid style if not sustainable. Once you face the reality of that then there is the up keep. You will become your homes handy man/women. No one is coming to fix your tiny home. Third - it is not for the weak or hyper consumer. You have to throw out everything and live with five outfits if you want pots and pans. Is it “cute?” Yes, is it easy? Absolutely not! The resell is not even on your raider because you are just trying to figure out how to keep everything working. You can find someone who will buy it for sure, but you will not make money or even break even. It will be sold at a loss. If the previous mentioned items are things you are ok with, go rent an rv and live in it for a few months with everyone you plan to tiny live with and that will tell you if tiny life is for you!
I am in financial services and the only time I tell people to cut back on their giving is when they owe the IRS. I have seen a hand full of people that were just not having enough withheld for taxes but giving 25% of their gross income to charity. I had to help them get on an IRS payment plan.
Provide an example of - not enough withheld. thanks

You can give whatever you want u have decided in your heart to give according to the New Testament. The tithe was for Jews under the law before Jesus came. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” Please don’t believe anyone who says you need to tithe. That’s making you give 10%. Please give what you have decided in your heart to give. And the one who wrote that was carried along by the Holy Spirit. Too many people have believed that their spiritual leaders know the Bible better than the Bible itself. Please read 2 Corinthians 9:7

I get that Mr. Ramsey has this idea that you need to care about what a home is going to go up in value over time, but if you don't plan to move every 10 years to a new home this is really not an issue.
Same thing with buying a new car, I don't buy a car to expect to need to sell it in a few years, I expect to drive that sucker until the doors fall off and I can no longer keep it running at all.
If I buy a mobile home I don't care what it will be worth in 5/10/20 years, I care if it will be still be livable in that time.
My mom's mobile home has actually appreciated over the 25 years she has owned it because she bought it used and kept it up over that time. Not that we intend on selling it anytime in the near future.
I love most of what Mr. Ramsey says but some things you need to take his personal beliefs into account to integrate into your life.
Some people are too impatient and not willing to wait
Mobile home values do NOT go “down 100% of the time.” Most of the time, maybe. Especially in mobile home communities, such as those located in popular waterfront /coastal areas where an 800sf home on a 1600sf lot has appreciated from $12,000 in 1980 to $650,000 today. My numbers are correct (ie Venture Out in Cudjoe Key FL to name just one.
I bought a mobile home in Southern California for 15000, and sold later after 20 years for 54000. With very little money in upgrades. So that theory of not making any money is false, Mr Ramsey. Location, location, location!
And it was not even near the coast. Forty or fifty miles inland in a bedroom community called Upland.
You should see the prices of mobile homes the Bay Area! They have certainly gone up! By a lot since Covid!!!
I could sell mine today for 20-25k over what I paid for it. He's right, if it's NEW, you'll lose just like a new car. If it's older, but not ancient, well maintained, in today's market, he's wrong.

Dave needs to point out more often that there are lots of other costs with an expensive new car. In our state, personal property tax will eat you alive - and you only get a two-month warning. So what do the people do who can't come up with the $1,000 on the cuff, they put it on a credit card. Insurance is more, etc.

I was wondering there on the Bronco call. Dave’s right sounds like the guy could do both, but he’s always been a “pay cash for toys after you’re 100% out of debt. This 4th vehicle isn’t his daily driver, isn’t necessary transportation, it’s a toy. Pay off the house and save up for it again. Glad Dave was consistent and landed there. Lol
Melissa, please please listen to Dave! Best of luck!
After I paid off the mortgage living debt free, I had a pleasant surprise seeing the bank paying me $1000 monthly on my high yield savings account!!! I use the $1000 to spend every month and 100% of my income goes back to savings!!! It's incredible how fast my savings grew when you are debt free, in peace enjoying earning money from the bank.
I found Trevor's statement that he had no debts while owing his father $15,000 very interesting but it sounds like MAYBE his father told him it was a gift but he wants to consider it a loan and pay him back. Trevor's father MAY have intended this to be a gift because Trevor first said that his father "gifted" him the money for the Skid Steer but it was a loan "more or less". If it genuinely is a loan, it may sort of prove why it's a bad idea to loan money to family members. The person receiving the loan feels like if it's owed to a family member it isn't really a loan so they feel no need to seriously work to pay it off.
Hi Im from India. This is a great show!
What is 'PEACE'?? WITH grief , income stress, worry for the future for your grandchildren....?
I still don't understand how anyone can rent a car without a credit card. We rent with the credit card, and then pay the bill with a debit - but the car rentals we have here, we cannot reserve a car online with a debit card.
I rent cars with debit card. They just have to run it as credit, just like at the store when you run it as credit instead of using your pin. Or at the gas pump. Never had any problems and it takes the money out of your account immediately. It’s not a credit card, it’s your debit card from your bank.
Glad that has worked for you, but it has not been the case for us. Just took a five-day vacation in Missouri and rented a car online first - had to use a CC (after trying with a debit card) even though when we turned in the car we paid bill with a debit.@@lithobreakerf.5373
They have talked about that before. Basically it was just that you got to talk to them. Many places allow a debit card, and if they don't someone else will.
Debit cards are accepted at hotels and car rentals. However they place a hold on a deposit amount, which then takes days for it to be released. (This is the case for at least 2 major car rental places and 1 major hotel chain)
Option for the hotel is you can do a prepay for the hotel and even then they will still place a $50 deposit on hold for incidentals.
We need a Dave Ramsey in our family tree somewhere. We’ve a few of these young men who are late twenties and MORE still living in their mother’s basements. Sad but true.
