As a guitar player, and a long time Manowar fan, I'm very interested to see the entire process!
Are you going to built it from scratch, or by using different parts?
As for the cabinet, brilliant to use 4 different size of speakers to have the full range of sound!
Hail from Italy!
Thanks for the comment and support, everything from scratch, except for pickups and machine heads is the plan, thanks these are the cabs I designed in the mid 90’s

Joey is an astounding and extremely unique player with an equally unique bass/basstone. Until this video, I have not found much about his bass config so a big thank you for this video. 🙂 I think I can speak on behalf of many bass player, that we are keen to know more about your basses, tones, configuration, amps and effects...etc. 🙂

Thanks for the insights. Pickup swapping is really tedious and the blocks are a great idea. I wouldn't mind seeing the process in action, especially given the amount of gain applied, and how pickup response changes.
Also, I never knew about the cabinets having crossovers applied for specific drivers. A simple, brilliant innovation long overdue. Looking forward to more gear and production material.

Great to see you know your equipment and have an ear for quality audio. Most bands just go with what they're given which is usually some generic pickup.
ManOwaR is one of the only bands involved in designing its own equipment. I always loved that the bass tone sounds literally like metal!
I've been cranking Sleipnir lately which gives me chills every time. Spirit Horse of the Cherokee was one of my favourites as a child and still is!
Can we get another horse song on the next album? 🫡

Wow, I can't WAIT to watch this series of videos unfold, so sounds like it's going to be so insightful. I've actually always wondered this when seeing those 1x12/2x15/1x18 cabinets, do they have a crossover in to distribute the different frequencies, or do you find the speakers deal with that naturally themselves because of the cone sizes? Excellent work Joey, HAIL AND KILL!
Thank you for your support. Please follow Joey at his channel @realjoeydemaio for more exclusive content and interaction
Thanks for the comment Mike, your right but all of this takes time and single component like cables, speakers, cabinets, pickups, tone pots or not etc.. on and on has a single and cumulative effect on the end sound. The old saying you have to dig a lot of dirt to find a diamond is true for sound as well. Thanks for your support and please spread the word and subscribe to my channel real Joey De Maio and thanks again
Hey Joey. Has Michael handling the tours with you guys?

I appreciate this as a bassist. Any pickups you recommend specifically for a 5 string bass?
I would say that would all depend on what kind of music you want to play, your playing style, materials your instrument is made out of, and many other factors. I don't want to sound evasive at all - it's a complex question but a very good one! Let me know more details and I'll be happy to give you my take on it. Thanks for following us!
@@realjoeydemaio I appreciate the reply Joey! I’m currently playing a Peavy Grind BXP 5 in a metal band (HEMI) where my style is pretty flowing and constant. I don’t do a lot of technical scaling and picking as I am essentially keeping a constant flowing rhythm behind two very strong guitarists.
My issue is that I feel that I never fully get the true pulsating, low end that I need to accentuate my drummer and keep that heaviness below my guitarists when they either break into a lead or scale out. It always sounds like I’m just getting the bare minimum power out of the instrument.
I’ve tried tweaking my amp, knobs, pedals and while I’m at a comfortable sound now to essentially get through I’m just not satisfied.
I checked out the bass, it looks ok, so based on what you have said and knowing nothing of your amps I would say, go to a good luthier and have him install another output jack and split the bass in stereo (neck pickup to its own output into its own amps and speakers preferable 18 in or 15 or like me both and then send the other bridge pickup to another amp and preamp with 15 in or 12 or like me both. Try that first and maybe you will find the pickups are ok after hearing them this way.
@@realjoeydemaio Fantastic idea, I really appreciate that Joey. I actually did recently find a good luthier who runs out a gear shop here in Chicago that I’ll make an appointment with to try this. I’d hate to give up on this bass as I feel I’ve reached a pretty comfortable feel with it so as long as I can pull it’s true power I am all for keeping it.
Also small connection, my first record was done with Jason Walsh here in Chicago who did some work with you guys years back. When I walked into his studio he had a whiteboard with various quotes on it and one being “I don’t like it” - Joey DeMaio, I saw it and knew thats where I wanted to record haha.
Truly appreciate your time in advising me of this bass issue. I will keep you posted on how it goes. Recently flew out to see you in Berlin, looking forward to the next time.
Wow small world indeed. I really love Jay he is a brother and all around great guy and talent in many ways. Thanks for flying to Berlin !!! Hope you had fun Good luck with the Luthier
Joey what is your opinion on amp simulations/modellers? Would love to see a cool signature Demaio bass amp plugin one day. Greetings from Australia!
Thanks for the comment, well I have used most of the big modelers and they are fine for certain uses. I think whatever starts you on the way to an individual tone is what we all need. I am constantly searching to improve my stuff, and yes at some point when I find a company that shares my standards of quality I will put out some plugins and basses. There is too much junk out there and I hate to see people just getting started get garbage for their hard earned money. Thanks for your support and please spread the word and subscribe to my channel real Joey De Maio and thanks again
@@realjoeydemaio thanks for the response! Yes I agree it's very oversaturated at the moment, I guess because people don't buy music anymore, musicians are trying to figure out new ways to make money and as a result every man and his donkey has a "signature" plugin or something... Anyway cheers again Joey, I've been a huge fan since '92 and I've bought every album! Crossing my fingers for an Aussie tour one day

Down the road would You consider making a production version of Your Ric Bass available for purchase??? I know it won't be cheap......but for a select few of us....
it would be worth it! 💪 Kill and Metal On! \🔥/
I do intend to and thanks for asking I want to do a video soon regarding factory basses and talk more about why at some point we all need something that is customized for our hands, and sound etc…. And your right the will not be cheap but I only use the best stuff or have it made if the best is not good enough and sadly that happens quite often thanks for your support
@@realjoeydemaio It would be a dream come true! In the past I've ruined several basses to get that closer string spacing, but then the issue was
the pickup pole spacing and then to find a narrow bridge.......as You know.....they're just not out there. It has to be all custom.....and You did it! 💪
You can put me on the list! Gonna save my bucks! Kill and Metal On! \🔥/
Your right it all has to be done from scratch but I think it will be fun to make an instrument which is a killing shred bass for people like yourself who want to burn or learn to burn
🤘 💪
3 output‘s!!!So many Sound Possibilities!!!
🤘Hail
