To be fair, there are other piccolo bass players than joey but it doesn't matter, he's quite unique. His way of playing is a huge part of what makes Manowar sound like Manowar. I don't know what kind of bass he played on the first few records but Secret Of Steel for example is arguably carried more by the bass than by the guitar.

Nothing beats the 8-string Veillette Citron that he used on so many classics

@@stefhan4667 Dawk - Manowar's head technician for quite some years till his passing - had a website with very interesting info on Manowar's equipment, especially on those early years, from guitars, to basses, amps, speakers etc. They were constantly experimenting with new gear and Dawk was the driving force behind. I also remember reading that the 1st incarnation of the picolo bass was a heavily modified Rickenbacker 4001

@@GeorgeVrachliotis That Rickenbacher, I know about . I saw Joey playing it mid-90s . Agony and Ecstasy Tour 1994, Hell on Wheels 1997 . Mirrored Scratchplate, big red Volume Poti and only the lower half of the Fingerboard played because the strings were narrowed to each other. And the Sound....omg! Dawk was certainly second to none.
