I loved how you talked about affordability and calorie density. Also kidney disease usually isn’t detected until a majority of function is already lost so it is a good idea to look at mineral levels even if your cat appears healthy
Thanks!! Deciding to feed a primarily wet diet is a commitment I've made for my cats' health, but it's definitely a financial strain! Picking budget friendly, calorie dense foods has been a super important part of making this work for me. And yes to proactive health care! I'll admit some of the mineral levels can be quite confusing though... especially since there aren't established safe upper limits for some. And the fact that so many brands don't make their mineral content available. I can't wait for more research to be done and more guidelines to be established.
Thank you so much! I’m taking a bit of a step back from the dedicated feeding videos. I get worried about adding to the tons of info out there from folks who aren’t professionals… I don’t want to stir up more anxiety and misinformation! What I do for my cats is definitely a little out there because they’re so picky. I don’t want other people to feel like this is the best way to feed their cats. What I am doing though is feeding my cats during livestreams and I’m always happy to chat about stuff there! It feels a little less permanent and official that way 😹
I completely understand and thanks for replying because I've been looking everyday to see. You are just great explaining everything so I got some good ideas on the budget friendly foods and how to break things down which is awesome. I got alot of helpful info/ideas from the 3 feeding videos so I am grateful. Also I love the enrichment videos they are really entertaining and helpful. You are a great narrator with a good sense of humor. The cats are beautiful too!
I got my cat off kibble by transitioning to the EZ Complete fur cats. All you have to do is add a boneless protien(raw or cooked). Ive been rotating protiens and just bought alnutrin to rotate completers. I've been wanting to put some decent budget friendly wet foods in the rotation, but it can be very overwhelming 2 sort thru and figure out whats good. Watching these videos helped so so much. TY
Let me know what you think! I think a lot of their foods have a really good nutritional profile from my brief glances. I haven't tried any fresh food yet with my cats though!
You have such beautiful rag doll kitties !! My own ALH forest cat gets raw frozen & thawed shrimp for breakfast & then Purina seafood feast (not pate) the rest of the day.
Thank you!! Do you add some sort of completer to your raw food so that it’s balanced or do you use that meal as more of a small snack? I’m considering different ways to boost my cats’ nutrition with something tasty and would love to hear how you do it!
@@sirgeorgetheragdoll the premium Purina seafood feast cans have a little cooked whole shrimp in them. My cat was eating that first. So that's how I learned he loves shrimp. The semi feral cats on the cat islands of Japan all eat fresh raw seafood cuttings & trimmings. They're very healthy. Since I live in the Rocky Mountains now not Florida nor Calif, frozen raw shrimp is the best I can do. So I scald it in boiling water which thaws & de-germ's it but keeps it raw on the inside. That's his daily breakfast. At 15lbs five jumbo shrimp is all he can eat. The canned Purina seafood feast which he loves gives him the rest of the additives he needs. My little guy eats like a king! And he still hunts on a full stomach. He has killed 7 gophers in my back yard this year so far in our new house in the country. That's what I do.
could you make a video explaining how you transition their foods between months? do you slowly transition each meal to a different one or are they fine with switching wet foods immediately? I’ve seen mixed advice online about switching wet foods/flavours. You seem very educated so I would love your opinion! (and your cats are cute too so all the cat footage is lovely 😂💕)
Absolutely! The short answer is that I do it quickly, but that’s because my cats have gotten so used to different types of proteins and formulas that they don’t really get too many effects. Sometimes I have to go slower with George though and will give him about a week to transition to a new food if he’s got some mushy stool, The advice from most vets, food companies, blogs etc will say to go slow and that’s definitely what I would recommend until your cats get used to frequent rotations. Happy to make a video on what I do and how I would approach things if you’re new to rotations!
So funny because I was just thinking that she’s really behind on her monthly updates. I was doing a cat food bulk order because I worked for chewy and they were having their sale that ended this morning so I just was seeing what you had been feeding your fur babies lately
Ahhhhhh! I'm sorry! I actually had this video ready to go for the most part, but I was hoping I could get a more detailed nutritional analysis from one of the brands. They never ended up getting back to me... If they do get back to me, I'll update the description. What did you end up getting on Chewy?
@@sirgeorgetheragdoll we have done nulo shredded variety in the past but we are going to try nulo duck and tuna pate. We are also trying JAC chicken air dry crumbles and variety sampler of vital essentials chicken freeze dry raw cat treats
No, it's definitely not for everyone! It took us a long time to be able to incorporate this many in. Going slow is key. And honestly all this rotation isn't even necessary! My cats just get sick of their food so quickly.
My cats actually really seem to enjoy fish, especially tuna! The reason I try to limit fish in the diet is because there are some studies that indicate fish based diets may be linked to hyperthyroidism (due to elevated levels of iodine and polybrominated diphenyl ethers found in carnivorous fish), urinary tract issues (due to often elevated levels of magnesium and phosphorus) and mercury exposure from large fish like tuna. I avoid purely fish based foods when I can, but I haven't completely eliminated from their diet. I'm all about moderation!
I feed my two, 2-year old Ragdolls a pure protein meal once a day. This is usually in the form of fresh beef strips. I would like to replace all their meals with fresh meat but Bella does not seem to tolerate fresh chicken! Buddy loves a daily serve of kibble but he does not tolerate grain so I pay big money for 'hypoallergenic' kibble! Taking care of cats is not easy!
Not easy at all! So many dietary preferences and needs! If you do end up changing everything to fresh meat, just make sure you’re adding a completer (you might already be doing this and I’m just preaching to the choir) so that they get all the minerals they need!

Yum Chopped Grilled is my favorite from Fancy Feast
A very good choice!!
Very interesting. Thank you for posting this vlog. 😻🥰💙
Thank you! I love talking about my cats’ food and their nutrition… could do it all day 😹
I love your videos. So happy I found them. When will you be doing a video for Aug feeding? Thanks for all the great information.

Amazing video ❤
Recently picked up just for cats frozen food. Hopefully my cat likes it she’s 50/50 on being picky 😂
Thanks so much!

how funny that I feed basically the same thing to my 4
I love that!!

I’m a big fan of those single ingredient freeze dried treats. They make such good toppers or just regular treats and my cats LOVE them.
I can't change foods like that to my 4 Siberian cats. They would immediately have stomach upset and diarrhea and that's a nightmare to handle.

What’s wrong with fish? Do your cats just not prefer it?
