Short-term and long-term are two different scenario entirely. 1) If were blunt, I would say that as a non-resident you probably don’t stand much of chance of convincing a landlord to sign a long-term tenancy agreement with you. [Please note I didn’t say “foreigner” - I had the same “credibility” issues when I came back from abroad and wanted to rent a place, however French I may be😊] That’s because you would need to provide documents that you simply can’t provide: past tenancy agreements in France, current employment contract, French tax returns. And then you might be asked to have a guarantor. Or go through a gov’t-sponsored guaranty scheme. Possibly but (very) complicated. 2) Short-term is easily done. Obviously there is the Airbnb way. If theory you can’t stay in a short-term rental much longer than 3 months. In practice it can be done by signing a 1-year rental agreement, which is much easier to find. But you still need to build some credibility. And possibly be willing (and able) to front 3 or 6 months of rent payments. Or organise this in a different way. It is doable.
