    Janice, thank you so much for the "shout out" and kind words about my RUclips channel, "Postcards From My Golden Years". 😍Yes, my remaining months, (just 229 days til our move, but who's counting!) here in the USA, have become totally absorbed with research on every facet of retiring to France. Your video was very interesting. Glad to hear you didn't need a bank account and it sounds like your rental process was easier than most that I've heard about. Just goes to show you that, as you said, every landlord/management co does it differently---and patience, yes patience. I learned all about that while working on opening our France bank account from the US. Took us over a month of paperwork and conversation--and it still won't be finished till we meet with the banker in Nice, in person, to finalize everything. And you made a great point about not living near a bus stop. We hadn't thought about that. All the best.... Looking forward to meeting you in November!

    I just found your channel about a week ago and really enjoy it. I’ve visited France 8 times and looking forward to another visit. We seem to have several things in common besides the love of France. Like you, I’m a retired schoolteacher, having taught in Louisiana and Texas. I’m from SW Louisiana where I taught for 20 years then moved to Tomball, Texas and taught for 11 years. We retired to Lake Sam Rayburn, north of Jasper, Texas. I have French relatives who live in Bourgogne and have vineyards. It’s so delightful to visit them and have them visit us. We also have Home Exchange friends that have become like family, including friends in Paris, Nîmes, Bordeaux, and Bretagne. I’ve never been to Fontainebleau. It looks like a charming town. I think we probably had the same church upbringing when you mentioned in one of your videos about going twice on Sunday plus Wednesday.😀. We’ve enjoyed going to church while in France. Like you, I definitely have a southern accent. French people tell me that I’m easier for them to understand because I speak slowly. So hurray for the southern drawl! I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I have been panning to either retire in Italy or France- France appeals more to me having lived and studied in France and knowing the language in my case. I also have my host parents from when I studied and made quite a few friends in La Val de La Loire while I was student way back. I will continue to watch your vides and plan on saying addios to the US once I do reitre at 67 -5 more years to go- I wish to rent first- any ideas on places not in Paris in the outskirts- like Garonne, Marseille, Aude ? Hi Janice! Kind of off topic and maybe you have covered this in another video (I just found you), but I'm wondering how much French you knew before moving and if you are actively taking French lessons now that you are there? Also if you didn't have a large French vocabulary prior to moving, was it difficult to do everything that needed to be done with your VISA when you 1st arrived? My husband and I are retired educators (too!) and we're making our move next year at this time! We are trying to learn a bit of French in the year that we have and plan to continue learning once we arrive. Really am enjoying your videos!

    • @JaniceInFrance
      @JaniceInFrance  11 месяцев назад +2

      You’ll be happy to know I knew nothing of French when I arrived. When you do your visa work in the states of course it’s all in English you don’t do anything until after you’ve been here for three months and then you will go on the computer and do everything in it is also in English. They will ask you do you want emails in English or French so therefore they will give you an email in English and in French. I live in Fontainbleau as you may or may not know and I have found it not difficult nor have I found it difficult in France to get around at all people know French some people know a little English it’s OK we all get along and hand signs are fabulous. Let me know if there’s anything I can help you with

    Love your energy and vibe! Thanks for this video since I may be thinking of moving to either France or Montreal Canada if Trump gets back in office. This will be my plan B go to. I wanted to ask how are the homes/apts in Versailles area of France? Or where the Louvre is and where the French Revolution took place? I saw a video in that area but wondered what living around there would be like. It is so beautiful! And where you are is lovely and cozy. I am not retired as of yet but hoping to open a small business, cafe and cakes type of place. Maybe I should leave USA first before I invest in that. Your apartment is cozy, I like it and the juliet balconies are so adorable. Kitty and Buster soooo cute! Careful with kitty by balcony don't let kitty go for a bird out there, they tend to jump or get lost. Looking forward to more of your videos of France...it is so relaxing too.

Who’s the oldest, and not doing too well right now, but anyway Living life and loving everybody’s comments and especially thanking you yes, if you’re wanting to move to France, I don’t think you should open a business unless you open it in France lol

    Look so depressing. Visiting France is very fun, no doubt about it but living there is a different story. I love nature(hiking a lot), sport (swimming daily), and also the crowds to communicate. I love shopping, going to bars enjoying some drinks. I have all here in California but in France for the type of living i am having now cost a fortune. Not cheap as people think. Cheaper living in suburban and country side but really depressing in the cold days when you will see no one. Some region of France shutdown after summer when all tourists disappear. Paris is for visiting, fun , but if you're sporty the only way is using your machine at home for exercise. The city sometimes is very highly polluted. Am researching on moving and looking a place that can fit my lifestyle.
