@killo90210 They were a mix of practical and cg, depending on what the scene required. Check out this blooper reel that doesn't have any visual effects added to see a few of the things they did practically with the tentacles... /watch?v=eO-v6VEOJTs Doc Ock's scenes start about two and a half minutes in and are spread out through the rest of the video.
This is really sweet. Surprised by how much was puppetry/ animatronics, wth a physical aspect rather than a digital one. Looks much better to have a physical element there, as I can imagine it was far more helpful to the actors to have something to physically work with.
Seriously, I seeing stuff like this. These are practical effects that work well. I'm hoping that one day soon, Hollywood will stop the overuse of CG and go back to using practical effects. Stuff like this works, because its real. No CG model can ever reach the quality of stuff like this.
I remember these tests...in fact that’s my keyboard and me pre recorded playing Moonlight Sonata then puppeteering the tentacle.
WINNING!
So fluid!!! I had no idea this was a practical effect.
Wow, they really do move like octopus tentacles

See, animatronics DO still have a place, it just depends on a lot of factors...
This still amazes me. So lifelike it's creepy.
Great work Steve. Its amazing!( No pun intended)
I wish you had made a motorized pair (set?), but now that I think of it it'd probably weight a ton and cost a fortune in servos!
Very cool.
Awesome 💕
HOORAY STEVE
Wow! Who directed and shot this amazing footage?
It's Slenderman!
I think.
If these could be developed for injured people, that's what I'd call handicapable.
Fuck CGI, ILM and George Lucas. This is how you make special effects!
