I've been doing FX for 20 years and I worked with you, Steve, for five of those years and I still get nerdy and excited to see these great behind the scenes clips. Can't wait for it all. Thanks Steve!!!!!!!
Steve is truely inspirational. It's great to finally see the man behind these creatures & to see how some of the greatest moments in Cinematic history came to life. Thank you for sharing Steve.
Thanks Steve for this great initiative. It's fantastic for people like me that follow and love all this art envolved in movies that is not even recognized as you say most of the time.
Steve, thanks for making it to last nights Q&A session, it was great to hear from yourself and Billy Bryan talk. Love these videos, many thanks - amazing work.
@tbip2001 Thanks for your purchase! The DVDs will be shipping out on the 13th, so just a few days from now. Coming soon will be DVDs on Abyss, Hulk, Night of the Demons, and a certain man of steel. ;) We want to price them so that most anyone who wants one can afford one. We will always have a set number for pre-order, and those will always be $9.99. So if you see one for pre-order that you want, don't wait! They may sell out. Chris
Fantastic channel - very excited by the promise and possibilities. Thank you for making this available to fans of film and television and your considerations toward the preservation of this important archival material. Jason DeBord, Original Prop Blog
I only got one word that can be used for this: WOW!!! Thanks Steve! I loved all the extra's on the Blade 2 DVD and I think this is going to be even better! Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see the rest! Lawrence I. Kelatow
ABSOLUTELY amazing and appreciated Steve. This is a surprise but at the same time a complete delight to see what's coming. We met this year at Wonderfest - brief conversation before your presentation. GLAD to see you're still putting it out there in whatever format. And now with THIS channel to bring your incredible body of work to share, well we're the lucky recipients. We'll be watching. GREAT luck with this process. Subbed and on-board now. Looking forward. CHEERS to you man!
Greetings from Brazil, Steve!! Big fan here from Sao Paulo, I'm a sculptor and special FX assistant, and I'm anxiously looking foward for upcoming stuff in this amazing channel! Best, André.
Steve, Your introduction was so well done. What a great idea. I hope this will start a new "show and tell" on projects that never saw the light of day or got cut out of a film. Great work..
First off, welcome to RUclips. Second of all... Thank you very much for starting this series. I grew up watching a lot of the movies you've done some work on. And the fact you're sharing this with us is great, as practical effects aren't appreciated as much as they should (nowadays, everyone is so obsessed with using CG, even for practicals). I can't wait to see what you're willing to share. Have a nice day! :D
So happy to see you guys are digging it. If the guys behind the process of transferring the VHS vids and editing the clips can keep up with the demand, this will go on for a very long while, and be a lot of fun!
Here he goes again. There are a lot of "behind the scenes" these days, but in my opinion Steve's behind the scenes for BLADE 2 is STILL hands down the best I've ever scene - now he brings us this. AWESOME!!! Can't wait to see what they share with us.
Hi Steve, I for one want to say a big thank you for sharing your life's work with all of us here on YT. Like you said in your video one day you will pass on as will many of the other greats in the SE world and your work may never be seen. I love SFX and they can if used correctly enhance the enjoyment of a movie but if over used ruin it like the Star Wars prequels. I am so looking forward to your future videos to get an insight and I hope you do one day win an oscar.
Steve, As someone who is just now starting to open the door to this world after a lifetime of being on the sidelines, thank you for sharing all of this wonderful content!
I miss you Steve! Your contribution to the industry is not over!! I had been searching the web wondering where you had gone. I look forward to watching the videos on this channel. I'm not a horror movie fan but I just happened to watch a featurette on one of the Blade DVD and fell in love with the creativity and wondeful way Steve explained how the effects were created. Steve stop smoking and drinking because your fans want you to be around for a long time! Your fans miss You Steve!
Thank you for doing this.... I remember seeing my first films that used these types of prostheses and being totally amazed. For a time I really wanted to do what you do for a living. CGI is impressive but still not quite as good as these techniques. What you do is an art form that hopefully will continue with a new generation.
Steve, Brilliant. I am trying to do a similar thing in archiving as many links to FX related stuff on my youtube channel. History should not be lost, we are quickly forgetting all we learned the photochemical way.
those fibre optic suits looked cool they should have asked you to do the tron legacy costumes, love this channel, look forward to seeing more fx videos.
I'm 26 now, but as a kid I adored this behind the scenes footage. Animatronics, make-up, squibs, you name it, I loved it. It's sad to see everything's going CG, but this truly is a lost art, but it's the best art.
Steve, you should release all of this on a huge box set of DVD's...I mean 20 discs with 200 hours of material...fascinating stuff...met you and Linnea in 1991 at the Fango Weekend of Horrors..my makeup on my brother in law won him "Best Zombie in Show"....Mr. Hyde was the MOST amazing thing I've EVER seen in a movie!! EVER!!!
request: more of the failed Nick Cage superman suit and a feature on the Hulk. What Hulk project was that for? Looks the animatronics for it were astounding! Cris
@tbip2001 We have THOUSANDS of hours worth of video, and we will be posting more very soon. We've been capturing it all to the computer and getting our first DVDs ready for sale. More stuff coming to the channel soon!!! Chris
@stevejohnsonfx Thanks for the link! I didnt know it was available. Just pre ordered my copy. If it says pre order, does that mean the DVD is not ready to go yet? Whats the ETA on this? Lastly, just wanted to say thanks for not making it stupidly expensive! An hour video with 200 photos for about 7 pounds!! :)
@stevejohnsonfx There's plenty of stuff I'd love to see you guys take a closer look at : Virus ( amazing robots design, awesome soldier with gun puppet, my all-time fav' ), all the stuff done for Bicentennial Man ( yes, even the smallest prosthetic pieces ), and Blade 2. Are those planned in a foreseeable future ? :) It's just me, but I'd love to see more of the workshop itself, the place where you created the effects... :)
@stevejohnsonfx So there will be behind the scenes dvds for sale??? That will be awsome. Steve seems a very real guy. I would love to see him do a video talking honestly about the state of the industry today and how he feels about what CGI has done. Why does he say his contribution to the industry is over?? Why has he had enough?
@stevejohnsonfx Sweet. So I'm not just a pretty face. I remember reading about the abandoned project in Kerry Gammill's book. SOme of the ideas were really great, and I would have loved to see the final result, and to see how your insect to man transformation would have differed from the iconic transformation from The Fly. Can't wait to see the Hulk video footage
I am absolutely obsessed with the effect where one head splits in half and becomes two. What was it done for? How did you do it? Why have I never seen this technique used again (scooping an actor's brain out for instance)?
the physical effects revolution has finished!! the industry has really changed, attitude towards makeup fx and the new guys/girls getting in to the business dont want to work hard and blah blah blah blah (ramblings of an old fart-not you steve) Nice of you steve to show the work of real great artists who created lovely work and was never seen. not many would give credit.

This stuff is SO awesome!!!
Cheers,
Dan

This is probably the single coolest use of RUclips I've seen. I'll be checking in regularly- thanks for sharing with us Steve.
Thanks Steve! I hope this encourages others int he industry to share their wealth of knowledge and views on the real work that goes into films.
All I can say is thank you so much for creating this. It's so appreciated.
