God hates pride; therefore, whatever God hates does not belong in our lives - Dr. Charles Stanley. - God hates pride because: 1. It is a characteristic of Satan (Isaiah 14:13-14) 2. It brings dishonour (Proverbs 11:2, Proverbs 29:23, Proverbs 16:18-19) 3. It is a stumbling block in your life. 4. It is so deceptive. - Causes of pride: 1. Self-centeredness 2. Cover-up for feelings of insufficiency and inadequacy 3. Given opportunities and positions you are not ready for 4. Believing and enjoying praise from others 5. Failure to recognize God as the source of everything you have - Consequences of pride: 1. Hinders your relationship to God 2. Hinders your relationship to other people 3. Blocks God’s blessings 4. Hinders your effectiveness as a leader 5. You show favouritism to people who build your ego 6. You make foolish mistakes 7. Shuts down the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives 8. It breeds prayerlessness 9. God will put you on the shelf and not use you 10. Lose your reward because of wrong motive 11. Keeps the unbeliever out of Heaven - Evidence of pride: 1. The desire to be number one 2. Continually referring to yourself 3. Must be the center of attention 4. Seeking praise and compliments 5. Dressing to draw attention 6. Loves the prominent places 7. Ignoring people less fortunate 8. A rebellious spirit 9. Taking credit for what others do 10. Refuse the menial tasks 11. Difficult for you to be pleased about the success of others 12. Cannot apologize 13. Attitude of self-sufficiency 14. Can’t stand criticism - To deal with pride: 1. Recognize it 2. Honestly identify the areas of pride 3. Confess and repent of each area individually and specifically 4. Continually be on the alert 5. Serve someone else 6. Do something secretly for somebody 7. Remember where you came from 8. Recall frequently what He saved you from 9. Stop comparing yourself with someone else 10. Make Proverbs 27:2 a rule to live by (Let another praise you, and not your own mouth - Proverbs 27:2) 11. Adversity
