The blue looks great. Mine was covered with white spue just like this. I was able to scrape the corner, then pull the pleather off most surfaces very slowly leaving very little residue. To remove the adhesive residue I just used olive oil and a cotton swab; dissolves it pretty quickly.
Great video! Just watched this as I need to change the leather on mine when my Pola studio power pack arrives. But wanted to say that I also have an alpha like in the video, but black instead. Black leather with the black case looks pretty slick. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see your review of the I-2.
I actually did this on my 680 a couple of years ago. The covering is really strongly glued on. I used Goo Gone but you have to watch it because it will dissolve anything that is not metal including plastic parts and the rubber bellows. Put it on a paper towel or rag so you have control over where you want it to dissolve the glue.
Thank you so much for this video. Got all the deteriorated junk off my parent’s old SX-70 Model 2 & awaiting replacement parts. Keep up the great work!
Haha! No way! I was going to reskin my Polaroid and I was looking at the same color as you, and I see a review comment and picture by Chris Erikson, and I thought,” that reskin looks absolutely stunning.” And now I can watch you reskin it in this video! 😂
I just picked up 2 of these plus a case that holds both of them for $7 from the salvation army. Ones leather is in great shape but has a broken door latch, the other is missing it's leather, but all the parts seem to work.
$5 with the original box and case man that is a steal! I have to get everything from eBay because even facebook market place is to advanced for the locals.
I got mine for $100 and thought that was a great deal (model 1) in comparison to eBay prices. I’m always a little jealous when people get these thrift store finds. One day...
I remember the wildfires in Colorado. The sky was the color red and it rained ash everywhere, but people were still casually walking around going about their day.
I need some help i have a alpha 1 and its nearly in mint condition. Only issue is the leather is peeling (the whole sheet) and there are small black specks. I inherited this camera in this condition and i haven't yet used it. Idk how to use it but its so gorgeous and i don't want to loose the leather
@@JustAnotherChris (what i meant to say) i looked at these cameras and at first thought the protective bellows inside the cameras were leather than found out it was rubber
@@JustAnotherChris it is really super interesting so far! Just cleaned the light sensor and looking into cleaning the lens next. Also need to fix the sonar, which doesn‘t seem to work. I believe once i‘m done with it, i will really appreciate every picture i take with it 😄..(but i‘m also looking into buying a polaroid 600se, once i sell some legos.. xD)
Hmmm well typically you would soak the parts in hydrogen peroxide under UV light or in the sun BUT I’m not sure about in this case. Maybe do some searches for External Applied applications, if that makes sense. I will also look into this and maybe I can make a video about it in the future. I don’t have a yellowed camera so I would have to track one of those down as well.
tip, just use a needle to poke a hole where the bubbles are, use then a creditcard wrapped in a cloth and squeze the air out, the hole will be so small that no one will notice anyway.
Hey I know you left this comment a few months ago, but just in case you still aren't sure, a 'frog-tongue' also called a film-shield, is the black, light blocking plastic sheet which covers the picture as it's ejected from the camera - to help protect it from light during those first few moments of development
Thank you for the tips!! I need to replace the cracked skins on mine. To find the exact model and date of your SX-70, enter the serial number and it will show you. mint-camera.com/en/polaroid-sx70/serial_number_calculator/

Thanks for this video. My local thrift store has one of these for cheap but the leather looked worn. Now I know what to do. Great job buddy
Go get it!!!

I'm going to do this to my SX-70 Sonar soon. Thanks for the step by step!
Definitely worth the effort!!
Love love love your channel! Just bought my sx 70+ sonar and ready to re skin it! Thank you for the tip 💕
Thank you!! Glad you have been enjoying it. got lots more coming!
Just found one today for $20 looks like I will be doing this in the near future 🥳
That’s awesome!! Great find.

That’s a great deal!
Pretty late comment but if you use a thin needle to poke a hole on the bubble, you can get the air out.
Did try that. And it didn’t work unfortunately

Yeah I was super hyped!! I check Facebook and offer up daily and it paid off this time!!

It’s all about patients I don’t find deals all the time but I keep looking daily

Hi. Great video. Can you tell me where I can buy the replacement skin ? Thanks
Thank you. There’s a link in the description

Where did you look to find one so cheap?
Got my sx-70 today and was surprised to see the leather bellows (whatever’s it called) was actually made of rubber, probably better
Nice!! I know I was surprised it was rubber as well when I first got mine.
@@JustAnotherChris (what i meant to say) i looked at these cameras and at first thought the protective bellows inside the cameras were leather than found out it was rubber
Totally. And I’m surprised they still hold up today without ripping or damage
Thank you for this where’s the frog Tongue one would love to see that
I have a video coming later this year on that
Just use a pin to poke a small hole in the material and work the bubbles out.
I did its some junk that was stuck in there
how did you shoot that Instax wide in the SX70?
I didn’t. Not sure what you’re talking about
so cool =) i just found an sx 70 with sonar for 10€.. it needs some cleaning and doesn‘t work perfectly, but i hope to get it back shape!
Now that sounds like a fun project!

The plastic on my camera is very yellow, how can I get it back to white?

Did that. Didn’t really help that much
what is a frog tongue?????

Lighter fluid? The hell. What was someone doing to discover that?
Gets you thinking right?
I want to get a purple leather for my sx-70 but shipping is 30 euro
didn't the original SX-70s have real leather?
As far as I know it didn’t.
I just got a model 2 after selling my model 1
Corridor Digital!!!
A pin hole into the air bubble with let the air out, hole will not show... =D=

I’m glad it was helpful and you liked the video! I will look into that thank you! Hope to see you around in the future.

@@JustAnotherChris r.i.p💀🤌
5 freaking dollar that’s insane
