As far as easy outs go , those ones work pretty good . Great to see a bit of TPG action as well . That's one flash trailer , never seen one before with hyd operated ramps to the gooseneck . Cheers .
Hey Gary, would it be possible to know the symptoms of the hydraulics when the spool was busted by the tire? In fact, what's the kind of issues you'll face when you have a spool valve problem? I have an issue with old backhoe on the back of my tractor. When i pull just a little on the joystick that operate the main cylinder for the boom, the boom will slowly fall down but when i pull all the way down, it will move up like it's supposed to. Also when my bucket is heavily loaded, it will stuggle to lift or simply won't lift at all. Do you have any suggestions on where to start toubleshooting this? I think about checking the spool valve but I was curious to know your opinion on that. All the rest of the cylinders are working just fine, except this one.... so I do not think it's a pump issue. I am VERY clueless about all this I never touched hydraulic stuff before but I am willing to put the work to fix it. Let me know and thank you for sharing this is awesome to wactch.
Dale, I do use my share of left-handed bits. But in this application I would’ve had to heat up the spools do to the locktite , was trying to avoid doing that. I appreciate you checking out the video. Gary
Why would the spool need to be brought down? I have a sticking spool, doesn't want to slide through freely. Used some emery cloth, tab of corrosion, flakes of chrome coming off. Friend thinks cylinder maybe wobbled in spot or two, thinking of honing if I can find one that fits. So you didn't really take down the piston the whole length just on end. Why would spool expand on the end?
Hi thanks for all your videos I have a problem though. I have a Kubota k005 gray market excavator and I took out the spool valves from the control block thinking they were all the same and you know what they're not and I didn't mark them. Any idea how I can tell where they go again. Thanks in advance.
Very very cool trailer. Looked like a standard trailer until that beaver tail appeared. Blew me away when that secondary ramp appeared. Congratulations on 5K!
I bet he was wishing that steel plate was there before the tire blew up. I had a tire destroy a steel fender on one of our float trailers. That was like surgery with the plastic on the lathe. Nice work as always Gary. Congratulations on 5k in advance
Hydraulic pumps are very delicate . . wrecked the guts out of drill rig project one by I thought fairly gentle means by getting its pulley gear off . . use proper pullers
First time watcher and subscriber did I hear you say that the lever should always return to Neutral if it's not a detent system. Thank you Aussie Jeff Moore
Thanks so much for this! I had never seen those extractors before. They look fantastic. So does that trailer, for that matter. That must have been a major investment, but certainly worth it.
Trail King makes good trailers. Think I would have put that valve body somewhere else and not right on top of the tires. That is an engineer not knowing the real world...
24:19 Okay lets start here. I have a leak maybe two. Or even three. And I'm thinking this O'ring here might be why... Is it possible to remove that ring, while the body is still on truck? Mine is a 6 spool. And I think i have this issue. It's not real bad, but is dripping.
Well my tools suck. So I asked a mechanic I knew. He's claiming something is keeping him from separating the controls from the spool.. Something black. It's time, and he didn't want to get filthy I say. So 2 leaking is better than all of them. So at least I know a little more about it now.. I can't get shitt done.. $$$$
Im a heavy equipment mechanic and we work on hydraulic valves like that all the time one of the most handiest things i have in my tool box is a pack of colored zip ties so i dont get mixed up
G’day Gary. A very interesting repair mate. Bluepoint make some nice tools. Nice grinding work too. I was surprised how accurate your 3 jaw chuck was. Cheers 🍻. Aaron
Way to funny, I also have used torques tips in my hammer style bit driver, but they have to be good quality ones. But then I have been removing broken crap out of stuff for over 40 years so there's not to many ways I have not tried. Thanks Dan for the sub and for taking the time to watch the video. Gary
Otto, sorry so late getting back to you. The Lathe I used at home with the tool post grinder is a Cincinnati tray top. The other Lathe is a early 1960s regal LeBlond. Gary
Enjoyed that Gary, thank you very much. I used different coloured cable ties to identify hydraulic lines on my tractors and being plastic they can just live on the lines and valves full time.
Probably a stupid question, but when you showed the finished valve block, what's with all the colored strings? Was that just to soak up any oil to indicate a leak? If so, is that just for pressure testing, or do you leave the strings on?
really like your channel, always watch the videos as they come out. liked this one a lot as well. i was an automotive tech for over 20 years and a master tech. i relied heavily on the extractor set you used in this video. i liked it both for the parallel design on the extractor that does not wedge the work out as bad, but also the drill guides that come in the set. if it's o through hole just go for it. if the extractor breaks you can punch it out. and you can still go again. if that doesn't work out you can use the center drill piece. once center drilled i have been able to use my drill index, ultimately pull what was left out like a slinky. also use time cert products any where every where. they don't recommend for metals other than alum. but i think i will wait till it stops working. never ben beaten by a bolt or nut. an air hammer can also be invaluable in this situation. thanks for sharing.
Thank you JACK. I appreciate you watching the video and leaving a comment. There are many different ways I get out broken bolts or studs, but for most things these are my go to easy out. Gary
Paul, that would be awesome. Would love to have a horizontal boring meal someday. I think that trailer will haul it. Thanks for checking out the video. Gary
We have been working with GMS Hydraulic for many years. Products of good quality and economically priced. is a recommendation.
As far as easy outs go , those ones work pretty good . Great to see a bit of TPG action as well .
That's one flash trailer , never seen one before with hyd operated ramps to the gooseneck .

I would kill for your tool post grinder.
Nice repair Gary. It’s always educational to watch a real pro working his craft.
Thank You Jeff, I appreciate that. Gary

I got some left hand center drills and drill bits. Lots of time they will screw them selves out. Win win

78yr old mechanic. Use a L-hand bit, should take broken bolts right out
How can I make the hole for the bollbearing for a check valve on 428 Tlb valve bank . the small one on the side cat tlb pls
Get some Lefthand drills sometimes Luck Happens.🙄
Happy days Gary, really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing
Thanks for stopping by Ralfy. Hope you’re doing well, Gary
Does that grinding wheel need to be "dressed " before using?

Exactly Randy, it ended up costing him a bit to get it fixed. Always nice to have you stop by. Gary
Wow can I send you mines for repair
Thank you sir give idea
very good job old iron..thanks for your time

Telephone wire pairs also a good way to mark hoses lots of colors. Cool job !
Another great way to do it. Thanks for checking out the video, Gary
Nice get er out!

Have a set of them for years. Great on broken brass. Won't look up and strip out like tapered easy outs.

As you can see in the video, you can remove the ORing with the valve in place.

Lol taper attachment, Dumoor grinder! You got a lot of toys my friend!
G’day Gary. A very interesting repair mate. Bluepoint make some nice tools. Nice grinding work too. I was surprised how accurate your 3 jaw chuck was. Cheers 🍻. Aaron
Thanks for stopping by Aaron. That particular chuck runs pretty true, but the steady rest was doing all the accurate work. Gary
Cheers Boio'. I now know much more than I did before
Nice job Gary. I like the painters plastic idea.
Thank you Randy, I was a little hesitant to show it because Some may not think it’s safe, but I was totally good with it. Thanks for stopping by. Gary
New subscriber here.
I like those Blue Point extractors.
I've had good luck with using a torques bits for extraction of broken bolts.

I bet there is also a story for each of those threads of yarn. You know, old yarns
That is a cool trailer. Thanks for showing the repair and how the trailer operates.
Amazing what good quality videos and excellent content will achieve -- I'll be here when ya hit 10K ! ........ shouldn't be long !
Ken, you’re way too kind. But I appreciate you taking the time to check out the videos and leave a comment. Thank you. Gary
Top drawer video/repair….enjoyed
Thank you my friend
Great repair there Gary. Thanks for the video.
Thank you Harold
Well done with confidence and proficiency.
Nice work Gary . Your lathe sounds great , real smooth sounding , LeBlond right ? What year is it ?
Otto, sorry so late getting back to you. The Lathe I used at home with the tool post grinder is a Cincinnati tray top. The other Lathe is a early 1960s regal LeBlond. Gary
0.36 i see that second section differ. Can you please explain meaning of this nut
To be honest, I would only be guessing. Not sure what it does.
Nice work as always! I totally thought those bent hydraulic shafts would’ve have to be replaced and weren’t repairable.
Thank You Collin, I got lucky. It didn’t take much to clean them up. Gary
Have worked on a few of those in my time seams like its a common problem leaving the plate off. Thanks for the video Gary
Thanks for stopping by the channel Mark, Gary
What causes the valve to stick
Very good video
Thank you Patrick, I appreciate it. Gary
Enjoyed that Gary, thank you very much. I used different coloured cable ties to identify hydraulic lines on my tractors and being plastic they can just live on the lines and valves full time.

Oh wait, I'm dumb. They are to label which hose goes where, no?
I might be dumb, but at least I'm not alone in it
Love your drill guids.
Excellent job and top craftsmanship. Thanks for showing, Gary.👍
Thank you sir, I appreciate it. Gary
Always a pleasure to watch a pro at work. Cheers!
Is that Prince SV, or original Parker/Gressen valve?
Not sure, and wouldn’t want to guess.
I worked on a hydraulic beaver tail that got hit and mangled the cylinder mounts. Cut stuff out and welded new in. Al B.
Sounds like your job was much larger than mine.
@@OldIronMachineWorks Yep took two of us a day and a half to get it done.

Great video again, Gary ! 5K subscribers just around the corner !
Thank You Ken
Great video Gary, I use the colored zip ties to do the same thing..
Thank you sir, the zip ties seem to be the most popular. Always nice having you stop by. Gary
I look forward to seeing a new addition to your shop on that fancy trailer one day in the future :)

Or have very under powered equipment LOL Gary
