Beautiful looking and sounding kit. I know what it's like trying to realise a vision in your head, and how satisfying it is when you finally get there. Congrats to you! Must feel amazing.
Wow!! It kinda sounds like DW totally dropped the ball a few times!! That’s a little troubling to me. Glad it worked out in the end but I’m not so sure I would have been as gracious about it as you were!!! 5 years is crazy!!
Got an 8500 DW Collectors in and none of the drums paint matched. I refused them. DW has done the same thing to touring pros. The biggest unique thing you get with DW is the price. They make good drums but at what cost and hassle?
This kit is one of the RARE times I feel like a DW sounds amazing. I typically think they are overpriced and would much rather play Yamaha, Sonar, Tama or Gretsch but this kit sounds KILLER! I would love to hear this kit with Remo Ebony Emperor Suede heads for even extra warmth.
I'm starting to see a similarity in your problem that happened to me also. I'm not dissing DW here as I love their product but the customer service is some what lacking or should I say big time lacking or at least it was for me. I too had always wanted to get a DW collectors kit and had watched many videos on other kits out there listening to hear the best sounding and looking kit of all brands that I wanted or thought the best. After many years looking, low and behold the DW Tasmanian black heart sassafras kit was out and for me I just loved everything about it. So down to the bank I go and take out a big old loan to get one and as I live in Ireland it was impossible to find one anywere half way close, none in the UK at all, the only one available I could find was in the US but the shipping and taxes was pushing it into the silly money prices so I looked and looked only to find one in a music store in Germany. Anyways got the kit eventually and was soo in love with it, it was everything I had always wanted and my most prized possesion above all, after my kids of course and I will never, ever ever sell it! So years later I wanted to expanded my kit, so I sent emails to DWs man to ask was it possible to get an 8" and 13" made in my kit as I know it was a limited edition kit and he told me it was possible, but that I would have to go through one of their distributers in the UK to purchase it. So I contacted a distributer in the UK and they wanted pictures and numbers with all the details and of course payment in advance as expected. All this took quite a bit of time with many, many emails and photos back and forward but eventually I got it all sorted and then just had to wait for the drums to be made and delivered. So back to the real world I go, going to work every day dreaming about my new add ons and what they will sound and look like on the kit with wishing my life away until the toms arrive. I then receive a phone call one rainy day months later from the UK distributer saying that DW cannot not make the toms! After all of the emails and photos and even asking DW itself if it was possible only to be told that they cannot make them as they had none of that timber left and that was that. I tried myself to contact DW who had told me it was possible and all with no effect just the some old Bs. I even looked on line to see if it was possible for me to get the timber and of course you could easily, with a big company like DW unable to get it sounds a bit fishy but anyhow thats my story and it put me off Dw quite a bit and in the company I work for you are expected to bend over backwards for the customer and at all costs and if the boss only just thought you were any way lacking in this you would be down the road quicker than you could go, but customer service is obviously not that important to a big company like DW now as they are propably just too big and don't care about the wee man who put them up there.
There is no denying that DW make some beautiful drums and I'm super happy you've finally got your absolute dream set, but man, DW's ordering process leaves a lot to be desired! For the money a Collectors Exotic series costs, there should be nothing but absolute perfection and any issues should be dealt with swiftly and apologetically. From what you've said I think they've fallen a bit short of the mark and they need to do better. Enjoy your beautiful new set of drums though.
What a journey to get the drums right as ordered after so many years. Funny mic setup you have, very unusual. 1 Shure SM7 for both rack toms and is it an AKG D112 for the floor toms? Sounds great.
@@ColeParamore yes that is a cool approach to it and it works, it sounds really good. I have mic´d every single tom and even hihat and ride, if you mic up a drum kit fully it uses a ton of gear and mics.
Stunning kit. Too bad DW took so long to make good on the original purchase. Good learning for those of us aspiring to buy a fully custom kit - make sure you’re clear on all the details before you send it in.
I think he was pretty clear about 17 times that he made all of the details specifically in order before he sent the order out. Did you watch the video?
DW really excels at custom finishes. They can create virtually anything you want as long as you’ve got the cash. I personally don’t care for the finish but I didn’t buy them so at the end of the day as long as you love them that’s all that should matter. Most modern drums all sound the same. DW sounds like Ludwig, Ludwig sounds like Pearl, Pearl sounds like DW, Tama sounds like Sonor etc etc. they all sound the same because they all use the same basic designs. The glues and polymers may be different but they all use the same techniques/technology. The only kit in recent years that stands out to me are the DW Romanian River Oak drums. They have a distinct sound but they are so dark and dry that they wouldn’t be my preferred kit of choice.
@@tobiaswinter1358 Ah. I've always liked them, but to each their own. This video was mostly just intended to share something I was excited about, but thanks for the feedback.
Cool, and they're unique to you, so that's good..... I never really thought about it, but for me at this point in life, it would be glass finish lacquered "blemished" super live and natural looking warm brown/red wood with lots of imperfections, with some blue epoxy accents..... painted interiors ( love wood drums with colorful interiors ).... 4 octabons-- or rata toms for dw 😂 4 rack toms... 8, 10 snom, 12, 13..... 14 snom, 16 and 18 floors, and a big old 20 or 22 inch thunder tom.... 🤔🤙🏽maybe both 🤣 And 20 inch kick, of course. And frankly I'd like to be a part of the actual manufacturing process of the whole kit at the factory. And if the dream kit includes snares, I'd like a 12 lug 14x8 brilliant copper smooth shell with die cast hoops. I'll probably have to end up building that kit myself one day, but we'll see. I know you wanted to get your story out, but are you going to record a comprehensive walkaround of the kit?
