Hello have you the live version of "Strange groove" from World Party? It is about 10 minutes long and not to find in a good vid here on youtube and elsewhere too!! ? Would be nice to see it here.
@@understandingnothing2445 I do have more from World Party, on this TV show, but not that song
This song only needs 2 words to describe it - "utterly and "brilliant". Anyone agree??
as greek young man strongly agree!
I totally concur and couldn't have said it better myself!
Nailed it! 👏
agree!
So sad to lose Karl Wallinger a brilliant song writer and World Party were on my bucket list of bands to see 😢😢🎸🎶 we are on a ship of fools. 🚢😢
My best friends and I saw them, and of course him, in Nashville somewhere between the mid and late 1990s. A nice bar with a great stage for bands like World Party to perform. Performance was just like this video, which astounded us. We were all lovers of Karl and World Party. This is my favorite all-time song of World Party!
Just heard the news that Karl has passed away. So very sad, you will be missed. RIP.
So sad to wake up and hear about Karl passing.
RIP Mr. Wallinger
Thx for the great music
Karl Wallinger is a songwriting genius!
you are certainly not wrong
I love this live version.. what a beautiful, thoughtful song... I never even realised it was World Party. Such an unassuming talent. Rest in peace, Karl..
What a great song. Love his voice and his modulations according to the beat! My favorite part: when he whispers “Bang!”
RIP Karl. Thanks for the brilliant music and lyrics.
I love this song absolutely. It has really strong links to important moments throughout my life. It's an incredible work of music, work of art, reflection on history, life and philosophy.
Oh, and the riffs, melodies, and choruses. Just brilliant.
RIP in peace, dear Karl.
Was remodeling my 1st house when this song was big. Loved it. I wasn't even sure who the band was haha. I just loved the song. Then my wife and I went to a John Cougar concert in Cincinnati, and I went down to buy a couple beers and I hear this song. I look left, I look right.. I'm like what the heck! LOL got my beers and ran up to the concourse. World Party was the warmup. That was great.
Thanks for sharing the memories Mark
Oh wow, don't you love when things like that happen? So cool, and what an unlikely pairing.
Talk about serendipity!! That's the definitive definition!
Every album from World Party is a classic. This song is just amazing.
Glad you enjoyed this
Wonderful music. Karl Wallinger is a creative master.
Jeez it's almost like the studio version. These guys are so awesome live!
I'm glad you fund and enjoyed this video 🙂
"Baaang!"
This song is still mesmerizing, all these years later. 👏
I tuned in again just to hear “Bang.” 😢
Phenomenal. Just so beautiful. RIP Karl. ❤
Possibly my favourite song of the 90s. Ray Davies at his peak would've been hard-pressed to better this.
It's funny you say that, I only heard this song for the first time last week (criminal I know!) and it immediately put me in mind of The Kinks.
Don't know how I missed World Party but they/he is/are fantastic!
Good call. Nice Kinks vibe.
I agree. One of the best songs of that decade IMO.
Biggest musician crush ever😳 Won tickets from KMTT in Seattle, to a private World Party concert in the 90's and I was too ridiculously starstruck to even look at him. What an idiot I was😂
Crazzzy Crosby Stills and Nash vocals, super super super cool
Thanks for watching and commenting
Musicians and their songs, like this one, restore my faith in humanity.
missing ya already Karl
So brilliant a song.
Wallinger's lyrics explain/ed what's going on.
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Almost the opposite of saying what is going on. Just questions man, that's philosophy :)
Simply Magical. What a Song.....
Karl is perhaps the most under rated songwriter of all time, World Party rocks! "And God said look after the planet, look after the planet....but man said, FUCK YOU!"
So many things to love about this track. Just one is the excellent McCartneyesque bass playing (on a McCartneyesque bass)
Karl and the band are criminally underrated. Song writing, arrangements, performance all absolutely genius level. Thank you so much.
These guys are so fuckin good
Sad to see another great musician passing...saw a few World Party gigs back in the 90's. Top band and worthy lyrics.
karl is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had Bang on cassette tape and played this in my car on constant rotation for years. Listening to this is making me so happy. TY
Absolutely perfect. BANG!
😢❤😢❤😢❤😢❤
I will cry when ye go away, my friend.
was lucky to see wp in the 80's a few times. enjoyed every minute. one of my favs.
RIP Karl :(
Yes
Yes
Genius.
Thanks for preserving this fine performance!
So glad you found it and enjoyed it
ScottishTeeVee Karl Wallinger of World Party linked it on Facebook.
"here’s a ‘performance’ I cannot for the life of me remember doing - but I just thought I’d post it!"
@@mattsephton Oh brilliant, I never knew that Karl had seen or shared this, so thank you for telling me.
ScottishTeeVee no problem! It seems this is a mimed performance. It's interesting how the pitch is different after the trip to VHS and back.
Damn, this is great. :)
Great great band
Thanks for watching and commenting
one of my favourite ever tunes mate
Thanks James, glad you enjoyed this
They pulled this off excellent, live!
Quite a brilliant arranger/producer. Like a modern day Brian Wilson.
Glad you enjoyed this
Not quite.. but stand in their own category I think
Outstanding
so sad to see he's set sail ... his words and music will live on...
Awesome song
Rip. Thank you for entertaining us 😢
At 2:00.... GREAT bass line.
Thanks for watching and commenting Tabby
Class.
Superb, lovely STV🍻
Many thanks Martin!
Rip Karl
Sounds like the Kinks a great wee song. Dave Davis would have liked this.
Best song John Lennon never wrote...
I was going to type exactly this
not sure how strong Lennon was on Western Philosophy. I think 'She's the one' could be the best song McCartney never wrote, though.
Great track. Sounds like it's from R.E.M. :-)
I hear it I the harmonies..that part is definitely influenced by near wild heaven
The Badloser, thats a big comparison but I think its a good one! Ray, are you there do you agree ? Would love to hear your answer to that suggestion. (We love you too but isn't Karl Wallinger a great songwriter ) and only 5000 views?? where are the rest of you all???
Bang...
Does it get any better than this? Nope.
I'm glad you enjoyed this John
Karl is "face to face" with God now
When i hear this first time in 1993 i thougt this was from the 1960s.
Thanks for watching and commenting Manuel
not live in the least, mates. loved you, k.
The Vocals are live, the music is a backing tape
rip
This is the studio version...just saying. It doesn't take anything away from the magic of the tune, just not live.
Studio playback with the bass live and Karl singing live.
It's playback is nt ? Great song anyhow!
gotta be. 3:05 no backing vocalists singing, 3:12 backing vocalists singing. also, it's precisely like the album. no room acoustics accounted for. and yeah I agree, still utterly brilliant of a track.
τελειο!!!!!
Shat on by Sharrock, Chambers and Williams, had the last laugh though made a mint from Williams virtually identical cover, Karl had more talent in his pinky than them all put together
"a day"
What label were they on US ‘93
🥲💔
Hot dog 😍
Had to look up the soulful bass player -- quite the resume, has David Catlin-Birch. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Catlin-Birch
I'm totally questioning whether this was live.
Very likely not. I'd guess mimed to a non-album mix. First UK dates weren't until May 93. I doubt the band sounded like that by the end of March. By August / September after UK, European and US tours - a very different story.
Vocals are live, band are miming, it was the same from most bands on this show
