    A totally valid method of processing the panel so long as you have at least a 15 inch or larger planer or belt sander. A “Skip Planed” glue up for typical 12 inch bench top planer won’t cut work if total panel width exceeds planer capacity.

    Hi,
    Very useful tips, thanks. I have some flat and straight high quality 16 inch wide oak boards about 1 inch thick, 9 feet long. I would like to make a tv furniture/bench out of it. It would be nice to have each door made out of one board each. Do I really need to cut it up in strips and make a glueup for each door? Is it too risky to just use the uncut board? It's about 6-8% moisture level in the wood and about 40%-45% indoors during winter here in Sweden.
    If I need to cut it down in several strips of wood, is there a magic formula how wide each strip of wood should be?
    Thanks!

      Hi Stefan...single board plank doors always run the risk of cupping. Cutting into strips and gluing up eliminates this problem. There is no magic formula but I try to make my glue-up plank doors in 4 pieces. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, Wes

    I enjoy your videos but I have a question about your panel glue up process. It appears that your boards are fairly flat, but changes would you do in your process if the boards were twisted or cupped after being surfaced hit or miss (S2S) but prior to glue up.

      Hi...if the board is warped or cupped they may have to be flatten on a jointer before glue up. Thanks for watching! Wes

    What about using cawls to ensure the glue up stays flat. Just using clamps won’t achieve that.

      Hi John...as you noticed in the video, the material I used was fairly flat and your suggestion would have been unnecessary. If the boards were twisted to a small degree clamping crossgrain with cauls would have facilitated in a flatter glue up. Thanks for your suggestion. Thanks, Wes

    How to patch broken panels

      @WoodworkingWithWes  2 года назад

      There are many kinds of broken panels, I assume you are referring to a failed glue joint. I would suggest a thorough cleaning of the edge, sand it lightly to rough up the surface and reglue. Thanks, hope this helps. Wes

      Yes, that is the manufacturers suggested drying time. Thanks for watching, Wes

      Titebond 2 can probably be unclamped in 20 minutes on a hot dry day... Sooner for smaller glue ups.. The stuff starts to set up as soon as its applied.......
