model united nations is indeed a good learning opportunity. but one can't escape the fact that it is classist and exclusionary. it relentlessly panders to a certain section of private school students who can afford to go to such conferences. MUNs are highly comodified and as a result the very essence of learning in an inclusive environment is lost.
I do agree with that, i have never attended a conference that charges less than 2000 bucks, while I really love MUNs and believe that they are great for character building, it's hard to ignore the fact that it isn't really inclusive. I personally feel the money is all worth the experience.
@@WHSMUNTeacher Yeah......but the slight issue is we live in India and the amount the tickets cost to get to the US is enough for us to be able to go to a 100 MUNs......
He is speaking the truth, you guys... Most of the experienced delegates today, try to overpower the less experienced ones, often by the number of conferences they attended or by the awards they got.... This has been a black spot on my MUNning experience...
I have my first MUN in just three days and a few minutes back i was so afraid due to the fact that it is considered the most highly organised MUN in Delhi. Not that I am not afraid now, but I feel good to hear that people understand that the aim for self-improvement is more important than boasting about the counts and the experiences of MUNs.
I have my first MUN in 10 days , really stressed as i just got the community and country i am supposed to attend / represent. I dont really know the proceedings of an MUN and am worried about the first speech and stuff
Ugh, the way he says first timers, really makes me nervous because I am one and well I have high expectations from the conference even if not from myself. Hopefully LMG MUN is good enough for a first timer!
Everything he said was very relatable. I attended my first MUN today. There are some very ambitious kids attending who are behind the award rather than standing up for the issue
a very common feature i noticed in mun's was that people there tend to attack the debator rather than attacking the issue.plus mun has a certain glamour content and aura associated with it that can easily make a novice squirm with restlessness.mun's need some revamp as to go the old school way in some places and need to encourage originality.

I wish I had stumbled upon this earlier. I had attended MUN this year at Malaysia, feb 15 to 17 feb, 2020. Well it was one of the most amazing experience I ever had. I suggest students to attend MUN if you ever get the chance to. I bet You won’t regret it.

I absolutely loved it... Couldn't agree more with u! But as far as my perspective is concerned.. MUNs have never been inclusive ! All that because of hefty amount that they charge...besides, children are still not aware enough about what MUNs are all about? MUNs conferences should be advertised throughout the city so that every child knows about it... Only then we can make the best out of it! Never let the good come in the way of best!!! True indeed!!!
I have attended my IMUN yesterday. Being a child from rural community, we won't be affording for it. As it held on online mode it's a one time life oppurtunity for me.
I am so happy that I have to watch this Ted talk! Amazing talk sir! May you inspire a lot of younger generation to be more involved and help our world become better.
How to get funds( $440) within deadline of 28th November for the MUN being an Indian student as the amount is quite high excluding the Visa and flight ? Please help I don't have idea and have been selected in Asia World MUN II this year and gonna represent India as delegate in 2019
you can if the organised conference has a specialised committee focusing on the government of your country. For example for Bangladesh it would be "Shangshad" spoken in Bengali and for china it would be "The Chinese Communist" spoken in Chinese and so on. I represented UAE in League of Arab States and some of us did speak Arabic. Most were not fluent (Arabic is my 1st language) so they preferred English since it's the globally accepted official language.
