Infraction Mega 3S Tire Roast

  • Hi guys,
Man, the only thing wrong with the Arrma street bashers (on sale) is that they eat tires - like a pitbull eats pork chops. This is a run with the Infraction Mega with the full 3S car electronics swapped in but 100% Mega chassis, 55T spur, 20T pinion and drive shaft bearing. The tires are cheap 4wd buggy tires with some Shoe Good added for durability (approx 35% strip on the inside, 100% also works once it's scuffed but doesn't seem to add life quite as much as you'd think). Camber in the rear is set close to zero to improve tire life, front is dialed out slightly (I think half a turn). Clocked at 55mph on 3S, 38 on 2S which is pretty near perfect if you ask me.
I originally planned to run the 6500KV motor from the Losi drag car but even with a 13T pinion and cheap heat sink and fan it gets a little hotter than is ideal if you want to run a lot, and then the cheap Vendetta's were back in stock so I pulled the trigger again (zero regrets). I swapped that motor into the Vendetta and got 70mph with a 19T pinion and the temp is tolerable for 2-5 passes (outside temp plays a big factor). One of my old 3S batteries puffed in the Infraction so I probably won't push the limits of the Vendetta any more until I get a newer 3S pack. That 6500KV motor seems to be a beast, just like the 3900KV, but I wouldn't expect it to tolerate too much running with a bigger pinion and that Spektrum 100A ESC will also be nearing it's limits so caution is in order.
Beware the price of tires if you want to get into one of these cars. I think it's my new favorite car, but it ain't cheap to run - absolute cheapest you can do it is about $10 (cdn) worth of tires and Shoe Goo per 5000mah pack unless you drive it like an old lady, and $15-30 per pack is what Hoons will run you (maybe more if you're really tearing it up). I did run some full patch Shoe Goo fronts that lasted through two sets of rears which knocks down the price some and they understeered a little more than is ideal but the car still ran quite well. No regrets, this thing is a savage beast!
I might 3D print some reduced toe rear arms to see how much that helps tire life (and perhaps top speed on the Vendetta) but I wouldn't expect to see them on my Thingiverse until spring.
Do you drive to wrench or do you wrench to drive?
