LDRC 1899 Update and Tips
Hi guys,
This is basically a bunch of tips on the LDRC cars as relates to the new metal body 1899 Skyline.
- the circuit boards are different but can be swapped
- the gyro function is different in the 1899 board
- the servo centering is off if you swap the 1899 board to the older cars
- the radios only work with their corresponding circuit board
- the soft rubber tires work great
- a Surpass metal gear servo works fine but no better than stock (but probably more durable)
- the tail lights LED problem on my 1899 is in the circuit board, not the lights
In my review of the 1899 I was waffling quite a bit because it is so different than the plastic chassis cars but I'm totally on board now. The body i...

Dirt Cheap Airbrush Review
Просмотров 11818 часов назад
Hi guys, Is a $7 US airbrush any good? No, but I think it's usable, especially for painting lexan bodies. It's prone to spatter due to paint buildup in the nozzle but I got some decent spray quality pretty easily. I think with some playinf around this thing is usable for stuff you're not super invested in. For the price I paid it's ultra low risk but I would say stay away for $40 for sure. What...
Metal AR44 Clone Axle Review (Cheapish)

Hi guys, These are some cheap AR44 clone axles that I got for $85 cdn on AliExpress. If you want maximum durability these are unlikely to be anywhere near as good as genuine Axial, but if you want some cheap trail truck axles they will probably do the job. There are some problems with the gear mesh and bearing fit but they are manageable if you are handy. Overall they aren't awful if you're on ...
LDRC 1899 Skyline Review

Hi guys, This metal body beast is a very interesting entry level RC. For what you get, the price is pretty fair. The metal body looks great, the electronics are pretty good and it drives quite nicely. I would say it is an improvement over the plastic body cars but they have different upsides, so it isn't 100% cut and dried (big diff is it generally costs more although I got it on sale for $67 c...
1/43 Micro Drift Car Review

Hey guys, This thing is awesome! Must own IMO. I've been waiting for a car like this since I was a wee lad in the 1970s. It makes every other micro that I've driven seem like a total joke. Yes, I love it. The one qualifier is that you need a flat surface to run it on, say 6 ft by 6 ft (2x2 meters). Link is below, I got it on sale so if you want to save a few bucks maybe wait for a bit or find a...
Cheap(er) Rhino Clone 80A ESC Review

Hi guys, I've been keeping an eye on the 80A Rhino crawler ESC for a while and the price was just a bit to high for me to justify. This clone(?) is way cheaper and I got the combo with the ESC, programming link and outrunner motor for $88 Canadian (cheap). Long story short, it's good. The downside is that programming in the field is a bit of a hassle (need a PC, possibly just a phone, I haven't...
TRX4 Trailing Arm Mod

Hi guys, I used some cheap trailing arms and some shock mounts to add some more rear suspension travel to my LCG TRX4. It isn't miles better than with the links that come with the LCG kit but it seems to side hill better and the rear end has more range of travel for the high speed jumpy/bumpy running. Overall I'd say it's an improvement for the type of terrain I run on. Same 3600KV system for d...

I haven't run it yet but this goes through all the guts and there's no reason to expect problems. Hi guys, I really like this car a lot. I actually ordered a second kit because between the sweet Mini body and the extra parts it was a smoking good deal. The kit is pretty easy to build but is probably mid level skill because you do need to spend a bit of energy making sure everything is just right so that the drive train is perfectly smooth. Overall the car is totally worth $65-110 US (depend...

LDRC Tires - They're not all the same
Просмотров 1042 месяца назад
Hi guys, When it comes to LDRC tires, watch that tread pattern, nobby outsides mean a slightly larger tire that doesn't work with the NSX. Watch the color of the wheel for clues to the compound, plain Jane white or black is probably soft rubber and fancy wheels are hard drift tires. Read the add for clues as to the compound. Do you drive to wrench or do you wrench to dirve?

The rear suspension was not working out of the box with the rear end of the car sagged an...

Hi guys, These LDRC drift cars aren't perfect but the car itself is really good. The quality control at the factory is the biggest issue, but the car isn't too hard to work on (mid level skill required) and when you get the suspension dialed in it drifts pretty well. Better drifters than me are getting some nice performance out of it. The new version is the model 1899 Skyline which comes with a...

    I got mine yesterday... never drifted before..i spent some time adjusting car to where i like it for now...ran it on carpet,tile and a board...lots of fun,definitely much different than any rc car i ever drove...maybe i might order that dasmikro v5 for it...but as bad as i am at drifting it may not help...Do you find the stock radio and gyro are desent or better than previous generations?...so far i lowered it using those clips and added a dab of e6000 to them so they don't pop off..i also removed front spring and bent it so that both wheels have equal tension and travel and do not hit wheel wells at all... Very cool car for indoors..what a deal for $60 ..i actually like its remote,lights are amazing also...😊

      I like this car stock but i would think there''s a little more angle to be had from the dangle than I'm achieving. Aftermarket gyro might be the ticket (Beaver's hobby has an awesome run down of the ones worth buying) I like being able to tune the controls but the old school part of me knows that patience will get you there eventually when it comes to the driving. These cars like very delicate steering control which is why I hope they add a duel rate knob to the next version of the radio

      Proportional, runtime varies depending on which speed mode you're using (fast, faster, crazy fast), I'd say 10-15 minute minimum. Lots of short races on a charge, no problem. I don't recall what they claim off the top of my head but I did look at their numbers claim and it is believable.

    Nice break down and review of these axles. Like most of the China stuff a little DIY goes a long way. I have the AMK Rock Jock clones under my 1.9 Wraith and I've been surprised how the internals have held up. I didn't mind having to do some modifications to the knuckles for proper smooth steering myself at the price point IMO considering the Vanquish stuff is absurdly over priced my opinion though. I think lots of people buy these cheaper options thinking slap in and go, but like you just explained here you have to take your time and sort these options out and don't expect $600 quality for an eigth of the price. I have a set similar to what you have here I haven't installed into anything as of yet. Also would swapping out to some better quality bearings maybe cure your play you experienced in the axle stub end? I've ran into the China bearings to not be exact spec myself as well. Thanks for sharing with us

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 19 дней назад

      Yeah, there's a fine line price wise. For me a lot of the high end stuff is a waste of cash but to each their own. Unfortunately it's not usually the bearings (not in these for sure), because that would be too easy. There are definately poor quality bearings out there but they usually just don't last very long (especially if you get them wet and/or don't clean them). I've seen quite a few out of spec drive shafts and some are just really really bad. Somewhat comically, the only ones I've ever gotten that were totally useless, the CVD pins were too short and they would come apart almost instantly and it's not easy to get pins for cheap. Unfortunately it's a bit of a crap shoot...

    You could have tried to run it without the body. Since i want to change the body anyway - if the gyro on this so good that i dont have to change it this would speak vor this over the RX7 ones.

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 21 день назад

      I did, there's a note - less weight, more twitchy gyro like the plastic cars, so I'm not sure the gyro is different. Might be that the servo is a little weak. The 1899 chassis is super stiff so it's hard to test without the body on. You need the stiffer springs/sway bars to run the heavy body, the plastic body springs are way too soft

      Thanks. Lowest speed mode is definitely a little more controllable. Silicone spray on the tires makes it even more drifty and it still seems to handle more or less the same for me. A little silicone spray on the suspension (apply with Q-tip) also solved one side that was a bit sticky (it's not oil and doesn't leave sticky residue)

      @napstersgear3696 9 дней назад

      No it doesn't. I bricked mine after flashing Rhino's 80A ESC firmware on it thinking that it is the same firmware seeing that it is a clone of the Rhino. But it is also AM32 so I guess the parameters are the similar. I am still on the hunt for the firmware of this ESC so I revive mine.

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 9 дней назад

      @@napstersgear3696 At minimum, always make sure the processor is the same before you flash the firmware and if you can't ID the processor, I would never recommend flashing. The screenshots I've seen show the exact same version number of BL32 for the Rhino which (to me) means no reason to flash it unless you change the code in some way for better performance. When I same the same version, that does not mean the processor on this ESC isn't a different version or a different processor entirely. When you build firmware you specify the processor and potentially things like pin assignments and if you get anything wrong the board will not function or become bricked or go up in smoke. It's important to make sure you figure out the details if you're going to flash a board. Hope this helps.

      I don't have a mini-z but I believe the diffs are essentially the same width as a Mini-Q/Wltoys (bearing to bearing) which is too wide. The bodies should fit if you have the right wheelbase and fat/thin tire setup and are capable of installing magnetic mounts (some DIY probably required). Got a video coming on the kit with the Mini Cooper body, which I believe is intended for Mini-Z. The other issue is wheel openings, meaning suspension travel and caster adjustment can create rubbing, so if you play with the setup of the car, the body fit may suffer. So I've been on a massive 3D printing run for a month or so now and just past week I got the files for this cage... First of all, AWESOME!! But, secondly... I build Orlandoo Hunter RC vehicles. So I rescaled this cage to fit inside the 1/35-1/32 scale Orlandoo Hunter 5 door Jeep and just finished printing the final pieces a little bit ago. I'll be doing some modifications of course. I printed several pieces multiple times to get them sized correctly. I'll mention your channel in a video coming up about it to give you credit for the cage and possibly promote your channel more, as well as add the link to this cage and video ... If you don't mind? Very cool. Keep an eye out for deals on Enders. My opinion, when it starts to get old a new one makes a lot of sense and then use the old one for spare parts. I consider myself pretty patient and I rarely give up trying to fix things, but 3D printers are one of the most finicky things I have experienced and there are people who preach all kinds of crazy time wasting, bordering on cult ritual type stuff. I bought a Kingroon KP3S cheap and have done literally nothing to it and have had so much fewer problems than my old Ender that it made me question hundreds of hours of effing around... of course, the biggest issue by far is inconsistent fillament quality

      Yup, but it's almost double the price (or more cdn)... Seems hard to justify a gyro that costs as much as the car unless you're going to use it in something else too (for most people)

      Its like 25 bucks to US, but absolutely worth it. The driving is that much smoother. @drivetowrench2709 but i do know you guys get hit with unnecessary taxes on imports.

    Nice!!! Will injora wheels size 1.9 fit injora tires size 120mm by 45mm??

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 2 месяца назад

      Probably... not all tire bead size is the same (annoying) it's hard to predict without owning every single type of tire. These type of wheel usually can be made to work but install can be a bit of a pain. Use a longer screw to get started and if the bead is too thick, be prepared to leave a little gap in the middle between the two wheel halves (not ideal but functional)

    Hello , I like your video and thank you informing everyone/ on the problems that these vehicles have from the manufacturer I have been trying to locate the front suspension mount / bulkhead, I ordered a chassis kit from AliExpress and they refuse to send me the missing parts ,

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 2 месяца назад

      Yeah, when you order from the other side of the world an unfortunate part of the equation is that support isn't really an option. People ask me to sell stuff I make all the time and there just isn't any money in it if you're not in China. One of these LDRC cars would have to cost at least 50% more if you wanted to get proper support, probably more considering how many come out of the factory needing a little tweaking. The other way to look at it is that we get stuff cheap and the community is the support, we just need to avoid over paying ;^)

    What floor is that? Running on the concrete will eat tires?

      Old projector screen flipped over. Concrete is like sand paper. Not the end of the world but drift tires are more finicky than you might think...
