- Hi guys,
I really like this car a lot. I actually ordered a second kit because between the sweet Mini body and the extra parts it was a smoking good deal. The kit is pretty easy to build but is probably mid level skill because you do need to spend a bit of energy making sure everything is just right so that the drive train is perfectly smooth. Overall the car is totally worth $65-110 US (depending on what version you buy).
Do you drive to wrench or do you wrench to drive?
Nice vid, I've been waiting for someone to do something with this. I got the same kit and bought the 2 wheel conversion kit also. I wish I didn't in the end because it just doesn't drive well, not enough angle and there's more angle on one side. I spent countless hours trying to correct it aswell as too much money on extra parts. It just has no business trying be a rear wheel drifter and best left as is, which is still fun though. Anyway just wanted to ad to what you had already said. Nice work man
I guess we can share the misery :^( Gotta admit, I'm stubborn and haven't totally given up yet but hope is fading. I do love this thing in 4WD
I did exactly the same thing, also converted a WLtoy 989 to 2wd. Even with gyro it is quite a handful. Maybe my grandson with quick eye hand corodinations can handle it better
Thanks for the detailed review! I was just checking these out on Aliexpress and wondering if they are any good. I might get one now after watching this :)
Still haven't got it working in RWD, but 4WD it's a good car
Great review👌 I subbed to your channel.
Hi there, I’m considering getting this RC car and was wondering about its holding up over time. Have you experienced any issues with it over time? Thanks!
No problems but the RWD conversion doesn't seem good so far (I haven't totally given up but I'm not hopeful of getting it working well). I haven't crashed it much or anything but it seems solid enough that it would take reasonable hits. I love these cars but I've got a lot of experience so its hard to be sure if people newer to the hobby would be better off with a more basic one (Like a WLToys). I prefer a lower KV motor than the 6500 in the one I first bought - picked up a cheap 4500 and I would still probably go for a 3500. I also like the car a lot better running a Radiolink radio with lots of adjustablility
A Wltoys k989 would probably work for donor parts.
Pretty much nothing fits. Arms, diff case width etc all different
@@drivetowrench2709 copy.
Is it compatible with Mini-Z bodies? And Mini-Z diffs?
I don't have a mini-z but I believe the diffs are essentially the same width as a Mini-Q/Wltoys (bearing to bearing) which is too wide. The bodies should fit if you have the right wheelbase and fat/thin tire setup and are capable of installing magnetic mounts (some DIY probably required). Got a video coming on the kit with the Mini Cooper body, which I believe is intended for Mini-Z. The other issue is wheel openings, meaning suspension travel and caster adjustment can create rubbing, so if you play with the setup of the car, the body fit may suffer. Got a video coming on the kit with the Mini Cooper body, which I believe is intended for Mini-Z that covers all this
Thank you for your help!
Nice built. I bought 2 of these kits 3 years ago. Finally got the first one working perfectly; now because I am more experienced working with 1/28 scale. Just about finishing the second one, but I could not find FT-MiniD anywhere, not even Aliexpress.
Could it be these elegantly designed cars are too expensive to manufacture and they decided to quit? Comments?
Try "MiniD Drift" on EBay and Ali, maybe "minid 1/28"... the searches are a bit of an adventure but there are stores that sell them. I stuck a cheap $30 US 4500kv brushless system in the kit chassis that I got and it works really well
