As a compressor at the beginning of the mastering to give a little width(sustain) and color to the sound, I would eliminate the Vertigo, because the knee function is very important. I like the simplicity and the rendering of the Pulsar. But de Unisum is also good.
@MichelMusicien Great observation! The knee control does make a big difference, especially for adding that subtle width and color early in the chain. The Pulsar’s simplicity and character really shine for that purpose. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching! 🎛😊
Thank you very much for the comparison, the jazz example was particularly enlightening. Maybe I just don't like compression on jazz, but I like the uncompressed track better. The Unisum comp came across as dulled and lost vibrancy. I liked the tonality of the VSC, but it was way too sharp and edgy. The P11 came across as honky and mid resonant. Thanks again!
@ThisGuyDude Thanks for the detailed feedback! Jazz can be a tricky genre for compression-it often benefits from that natural, dynamic feel. Interesting observations on each compressor's character; they really do bring out different tonalities. Glad the comparison was helpful, and appreciate you sharing your insights! 🎶😊
@JohnWuMastermind Thanks! Yep, these plugins do come with a bit of a price tag, but they pack a punch in mastering quality! Appreciate you watching! 🎛💸😊
@danielkisel5661 Thanks for asking! If you're referring to the VSC-3 from this link www.vertigosound.com/products/vsc-3-plugin, then I believe I’ve got the latest version! 😊
Because I have VSC3 and I wanted them to give the option to turn off oversampling so that when I'm mixing or mastering at 96KHz or more I typically turn oversampling off on most clean to medium saturated compressors (most VCA style comps) and that usually increase the crispness and transient tightness and punch with plugins but no luck of getting this feature implemented even when asking on forum or sending mails which is kinda sad considering the price of their plugins but otherwise it's nice sounding compressor it just usually loose against other similar types of compressors at 96KHz or higher with no oversampling...
@danielkisel5661 Thanks for sharing your experience with the VSC-3! I completely understand where you’re coming from-having the option to disable oversampling at higher sample rates would be a valuable addition, especially for preserving that transient punch and clarity. It’s a shame they haven’t implemented it despite user feedback. Hopefully, they’ll consider adding this feature in the future, as it would really enhance flexibility. Appreciate your insights and thanks for watching!
@@boogiesnail In the video when you clicked on settings you had version 1.1.249 but the latest version is 1.6.79 that's what I meant because the setting didn't look familiar to me when you opened the panel 🙂
@@danielkisel5661 Thanks for pointing that out! 😊 I didn’t realize I was a few versions behind. I’ll definitely update my plugin-appreciate the heads-up!
Great to see that you included our P11 Abyss in your top 3 compressors for mastering.
@@pulsarmodular Thank you 🙏🏻 It’s easy to tell the truth. Love it 👍🏻🤝
Great tools !
@tomverswyvel6370 Absolutely, they’re fantastic tools! Glad you enjoyed the video-thanks for watching! 🎛✨😊

Nice Comparison and quite expensive Plugins :)

Thank you!
Is there a reason why you use such an old version of VSC3? Do you think it sounded better, or you just didn't update it?

P11 had the most power and depth .
@tomverswyvel6370 Great observation! The P11 definitely brings that extra power and depth. Glad you enjoyed the comparison-thanks for watching! 🎛💪😊
