Finally another mastering gem channel, pleased to know you colleague.
Would appreciate a similar video style with tools such as Unisum or Acustica Audio Tiger.

Just about right time, This video is here, was wondering about optical compressor 304 in protools- and here you are explaining. I love the SSL mixbus compressor on the mix auxilliary. The glue that it brings along while adjusting the attack and release as per the tempo of the song or track. Guess that's Vari-Mu. Figured out the option for it and have settled with PSP old timer.

Thank you, @ratnacomposerstudio! Perfect timing indeed! Glad the video came at the right moment for you. The SSL mixbus compressor really does bring that “glue” factor, especially when dialed in to match the song's tempo-it’s a classic for a reason! And yes, while the SSL isn’t a Vari-Mu, it still provides that cohesion, especially with the right attack and release settings. PSP OldTimer is a fantastic choice too-great taste in compressors! Thanks for watching, and happy mixing! 🎚🔥

@@boogiesnail Then what type of compressor is SSL mixbus? 🤔I mean I know it's a console and has been modulated from it, but otherwise? does it fall in to the category you explained above? La-2a is optical dayum I knew how I loved it on pianos. VariMu is Puig Child? I remember using it on vocals how it softened and rounded the edges of vocals and smoothened them pretty warm and beautiful.

@ratnacomposerstudio Great question! The SSL mixbus compressor actually falls into the VCA (Voltage-Controlled Amplifier) category. It’s known for its fast response and ability to add that "glue" to a mix, making it ideal for bus compression and mix-bus applications.
Yes, you’re spot on about the LA-2A-it’s an optical compressor and a go-to for smooth, warm compression, especially on pianos and vocals. And the PuigChild is indeed modeled after the classic Fairchild 670, which is a Vari-Mu compressor. Vari-Mu compressors are fantastic for adding warmth and a soft, rounded quality, especially on vocals, as you’ve noticed.
Thanks for diving into these details-each type has its unique character, and it sounds like you’re putting them all to great use! 🎛

Another great video! Thanks for sharing these instructives contents which are very informative and useful for me since I’m learning to mastering audio. I didn’t know that FET compressor could be an option in mastering purposes. I tend to use a varimu or VCA or even Opto one in certain contexts but I never thought ones about the FET compressors for mastering . Thanks again Stay blessed and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words, @MrHidrissa! 🙏 I'm glad you found the video helpful. FET compressors can definitely bring something unique to mastering-they’re known for their fast attack and punchy response, which can add nice definition, especially in more dynamic tracks. While they might not be as common as VCA or Vari-Mu compressors in mastering, they can be a solid choice depending on the track's needs. Keep experimenting and trusting your ears; each type has its place! Stay blessed, and happy mastering! 🎶

@@MrHidrissa @MrHidrissa Absolutely, I couldn’t agree more-dynamics are what give a track life and character! It’s great to hear you’re keeping that in focus. Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback, and wishing you all the best in your mastering journey.🙏🎶
