Wowwww superb detail and great comparison, I am still grateful I found my 987.2 even though I had to buy it from Penang 🏝 Well worth the trip a year ago!! Great video again, fantastic analyses and sharing.. well done 👍
@@ThePorscheLover Mines a UK 2010 987.2 base model Cayman, with a factory equipped sexy Sports steering wheel 😅 Precisely, I got it between the MCOs, well worth the visit to Penang!
Any chance to make a video on expected running cost / yearly service cost etc for a porsche? Maybe a 997.2 or Boxter. For those of us considering getting our dream car. Prices are afforable now but yearly maintenance cost might be anything.
Good idea bro, thanks for the suggestion. You're absolutely right, buying the car isnt an issue, but maintenance is. Yup, planning to make a video on this later 👍🏼
Another difference between 987.1 and 987.2: -987.1 has a set of 2 primary catalytic converters built into the headers (exhaust manifold) and a separate set of 2 secondary catalytic converters built into the exhaust muffler. -987.2 has both the primary and secondary sets of 4 catalytic convertors built into the same headers. This is also why the 987.2 sounds quieter as it's stock headers are more restrictive. Aftermarket exhaust on a 987.1 removes the secondary 2 catalytic convertors, this is why aftermarket exhaust on 987.1 will sound better than a 987.2.
A common question for potential buyers looking to get a pre-loved 987.1. The IMS bearing issue isn't as prevalent relative to the 986. I have yet to hear of any 987.1 in Malaysia suffering from this issue. There are quite a number of 987.1 with mileage above 100,000km running well without any signs of IMS bearing failure. But to be fair, it is a 14 to 17 year old car (2005 - 2008), there is a possibility it might still fail due to old age as every component has a lifespan. If you feel this could be an issue, do replace the IMS bearing to be on the safe side or request records from the previous owners (s).
Just a question - what would be the model that you d recommend for anyone who intends to own their first Porsche? 997 vs Boxster/Cayman.. Mainly daily b road driving and occasional convoy over the weekend bro.
I did initially wanted to swap the cover over or remove it completely ala Boxster Spyder 😆 But after awhile, decided to leave it be. It's unique in its own way 😆 Also, would love to see how the Cayman OEM rear spoiler fits on the Boxster 👍🏼
Made a few boo boos on this video. Apologies for the confusion.
- base 987.2 is non DFI
- centre radiator for 987.1 S is not standard but an option

Nice one bro, is yours a Cayman or Boxster? If it's a year ago, then it was purchased right after the first lockdown yea? 😂

Very informative. I learned something new about my car today!
Nice! What did you learnt about your Boxster bro?
@@ThePorscheLover the pockets behind the seats!
Haha,nice one!
Love this video. So informative for someone who is considering between these 2 models.
Is the rims on the 987.2 stock rims?
Those are aftermarket rims
@@ThePorscheLover for city driving, would you think it’s worth paying more for the S, as compared to the base model

@@ThePorscheLover what im hear, porsche is the most affordable maintanance among the supercar, expensive than conti but cheaper than supercar?
sifu. may i ask. what is the price point and good mileage to buy pre love or recond 911?
This is a very general & wide question
I might make a video later on this topic

Is the IMS bearing issue with the 987.1 S a big issue? Would it be ill advised to purchase one that hasn’t had it replaced?

That's a good question actually.
The Cayman/ Boxster is perfect for B roads.
The 911 is better as a grand tourer 👍🏼
hi I owned myself a 987.1 boxster.. im wondering is there issues converting the headlamp from original to led? the oem taillight as well
If you plan to convert to the factory 987.2 lights, you'll need to change the rear bumper too
I want to put an instrument cluster cover from a Cayman into my Boxster.
I already installed the Cayman OEM rear spoiler my Boxster.

I hope so too bro, all the best!
Quality man, Q U A L I T Y!
Thanks!
3:00 my 987.1S doesn't have center radiator.
I thought it was because of transmission being manual.
Apologies, it seems I stand corrected.
It seems like it wasnt a standard for S but alot of S has the centre 3rd radiator
Don’t think 987.2 base is DFI, S is. I got Porsche badge overdose from this vid :)
Yup, that's right. I stand corrected, base 987.2 is non DFI👍🏼
what year and CC is this 987.2?
This is an '09 Porsche Malaysia car & since it's a base model, it's a 2.9 L bro 👍🏼
