  • In this video, I'll show you around the ‪@OriginEffectsUK‬ MAGMA57 pedal. It's a versatile vibe and drive modeled after classic Magnatone amplifiers of the late 1950's.

Love your demo! thanks. I am hesitating between this and the revival drive compact (maybe more versatile). But your demo makes me believe the vibrato effect is really up to expectation and I love the M vibe.

Hi Jamey - I really like your review of this pedal! I dig Jump Blues players, and see you have a bit of that style going on. Of course it goes without saying, but I must mention the out of phase pickup thing is desirable in the genre, and blow me down if I don't hear it around 5:35 mark in this video, when you're picking a little lick over the 4 chord before resolving back to the 1. Was that a glitch in the matrix (it appears you're on the neck humbucker), or is it really possible with this pedal? I'd love if you would explore this somewhat, and report back(maybe even a short video?!) - I'm kind of thinking of buying this pedal, and if it's actually a thing, I'm totally in!!

Thank you! This guitar doesn’t have out of phase wiring and when I mention out of phase in the video, I’m referring to the phasing of the vibrato modulation in the pedal. I love the T-Bone Walker out of phase pickup sound though and wish I had one of my guitars wired to do that. Maybe one day I’ll commit to that! Also, that’d be cool if there was a pedal that could get that tone without need for re-wiring guitar.

Yes, I realise the guitar isn't out of phase - the bit of picking at 5:35 near the bridge is very hollow sounding though, and I can't help but feel the setting on the pedal helped that, tonally....@@JameyArent

Would you say if I got this pedal, I would be happy with it as a univibe alternative? I own almost every Origin Effects pedal except for this one. I’m really in the market for a univibe, but it would be nice to get this preamp as well. I don’t really know much about univibes. I recently owned a Keeley Monterey and I really didn’t have room for it amongst my fuzzes…however, I’d never put a vibe on my fuzzes before that…wow (and I’m almost 50). If I could pick your brain further, I did like the vibe on the Monterey after the fuzzes. If I was to get the Magna57, it is going on a board that starts with a Mesa boogie high wire boost/buffer and my 2nd pedal is the Cali76 stacked compressor. My question, will the buffer have any negative play on tone….does the vibe need to go before that (I don’t think buffers are an issue myself)….but what about the compressor? Probably after the vibe I’d say if I was to use compression….thanks for the great video.

If you want an authentic Uni-Vibe sound, I’d focus on a pedal that has a photocell and I’d meant to only do that thing. If you want something that has a Uni-Vibe sound but also some great drive tones and classic vintage pitch shifting Vibrato, I’d definitely recommend this pedal.
