Starting to Draw? Shockingly Simple Methods to Train your Visual Memory - PART 5

- Drawing what you see is great, but if you want to be a great artist you have to train your visual memory. What is is and how you do it is explained in the video. Beginners improve your drawing skills. This is the fifth of my art tutorials on Starting to Draw for Absolute Beginners. In this video I am going to concentrate of the idea of training our visual memory. The idea is to look at an object for about 10 seconds and to memorise its shapes, lines and tone - not the detail. Once you have memorised the object, you simply draw the visual image locked in your memory.
Don’t try to draw a detailed realist drawing, sketch the image quickly capturing the essence of the object. The more you do this the more you will train your visual memory. Your ideas will improve along with your drawing. Carry a sketchbook with you and train your visual memory wherever you are. If you are in an airport, look at a person, memorise them, then draw the visualisation in your brain. You’ll be amazed at how much your drawing will improve with constant practice.
This video is aimed at beginners, students and anyone else wanting to improve their drawing skills and learn to draw from memory.

Can you also do a video on what to look for while making paintings. Like when I watch artists videos I always get surprised how they notice minute details be it cloud or reflection in water.. how to look for colors, shadow ? How to train your mind like an artist? I know everything can’t be explained in one video but would be great if you can do that. Love your videos.

I can already draw very well... but I can’t memorize. I don’t measure or sketch or scale my drawings i just draw from top to bottom in complete detail. This frustrates me and I cannot do it. I need help.
If you are copying a photograph or drawing you are simply developing the skill of copying. It's not art. Why not sit in front of a scene or group of objects and sketch just the tones not the shapes and develop from there.

I had a look at your channel. A bit of advice. You need to write a detailed description of what each of your videos is about, and make sure you list the keywords that appear in the titles and the descriptions as well. Keywords are the words people will search for to find your video. If you don't do this RUclips won't know what your videos are about, therefore, it won't categorise, or recommend your videos, and you'll get very few views.
