You could also just use some waxed thread or fishing line to sew the hole closed. That's even cheaper.

I have an old aluminum frame jacuzzi net that came with my 1960’s in ground pool, haven’t thought about re-netting it but you’ve got me thinking that way now.
It's a balancing act between saving money and not investing a lot of time. But if you can re-net it easily then it may be worth it.
