Yeah, I liked Olberic a lot. His story was great, ESPECIALLY that third chapter. Like, his talk with Erhardt was incredibly. I was expecting Erhardt to be the obvious "Oh yes, I betrayed him so I could have all the power", or whatever, some shit like that, and I was wondering how it was gonna extend another chapter when we were told that we were going after him in Chapter 3. And then he turns out to ACTUALLY be a hero of this town, and helps Olberic in the chapter. Then the talk reveals that he's just like Olberic, a man with no idea what his purpose is, and I was just awestruck. And then the challenge prompt came up and I just fucking sat there for a good minute.

Since I started with Therion, the whole purple chest was not a problem. You're right when you said you grow attached with your first character since I really enjoyed having Therion around the whole playthrough. Personally I saw the fools bangle as something that would make Therion never let that down. Chapter 2, heathcote said that pride wouldn't let him keep that piece on and also how they used his skills against him. I liked how it started as a journey about pride, to learning about trusting another again. It really felt fitting for me when I completed Therion's story first, the other banters shows that he starts to really open up to the other members. I like to view it as a very good character growth. Also I just love his Aeber skill. With lion dance and him debuffing the enemy, I was able to get him to do over 40k damage which is insane.

you pretty much summed up what I really enjoyed about Olberic. Despite being a Warrior, he's far from your standard dumb brute. He's a lot more wise and not bloodthirsty.
I feel his personality shows best in his sword stance. I fully admit I'm not expert on sword, but to me the way he holds his sword seems more defensive, which feels a by symbolic of his development.
He starts off defending his king, then helping defend the town he ends up in. He doesn't do a lot of 'defending' in his chapter 2, his stance waivers in a manner of speaking as I feel he is most blinded by revenge here, seeking information on where Erhardt is. But come chapter 3, he starts to question his worth as he helps protect innocent civilians alongside the man he once sought to kill. By the end he realizes his desire to protect people and sets out to protect basically EVERYONE.
Learning about the true evils of Werner, Olberic realizes a man like him cannot live. It's not out of revenge despite Werner being behind the fall of his king. It's because he realizes that a man who could fell an entire kingdom would be a danger to everyone else. He seeks the man's demise not for revenge, but rather to protect countless people who could be killed by Werner's actions.
I probably could have worded it a bit better but honestly I love Olberic's characterization throughout the game. Even if he takes a more offensive role gameplay wise, he uses his sword to protect instead of harm.

    • @basilofgoodwishes4138
      @basilofgoodwishes4138 6 лет назад +1

Yeah though I found Werner as Characters stupid, why destroy an entire kingdom when infiltrating and replacing the guards from the Finis gate with your own men so that Lybac(I do not bother to write her name correctly. She doesn't deserve this privilege, she is far too terrible as Characters to get my respect) can just walk in with no need for such an unnecessary Regicide. Also Werner had no plans for world domination,he merely wanted to live his life as a tyrant of Riverford with him having a happy life ever after, heck he even broke up his deal with Lybac, BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID OF WHAT SHE WOULD DO WITH THE GATE, yet it got ignored in the story and narritive mainly for the lore bore fest in the final mission. All in all good story, with writing issues

In a way, Alfyn’s kind of a red mage (minus the black mage aspect): he’s mainly a healer, but he has good physical stats and skills that kinda let him fill Olberic’s role too.
Also, that concoct ability. The pomegranates alone make him one of two characters I consider required for endgame. For the record, the other is Primrose, taking advantage of those pomegranate boosts to spam her divine skill.

If I had to rank these awesome characters, it'd probably go like this:
    8: H'aanit
I like her enough but, I never really got too attached for some reason.
    7: Alfyn
Similar as above but, I appreciate the moral quandaries in his story about what lives are worth saving.
    6: Olberic
For him, it's mostly just that his lack of magic turned me off. It's a bit petty but, I only ended up appreciating him towards the end.
    5: Primrose
She probably would've been higher if the last chapter had been a bit better. I feel like it could've had so much more potential while it just petered out instead.
    4: Tressa
Her being this high still confuses me. Her brand of cheery optimism just stuck out way more than I expected.
    3: Ophilia
Normally, overly religious characters bother me but, Ophilia was a pleasant surprise. She didn't use her religion to justify her actions but instead, she set an example for others to follow.
    2: Cyrus
Similar reasons as you but, I just got hooked really quickly when the occult stuff started happening. His philosophy on knowledge was super interesting to me as well.
    1: Therion
Honestly, Therion was my first pick and it shows. I just really love edgy characters that learn to see the bright side of things without losing their core traits. I also personally think he had the best final boss fight which makes me wish I could've done it last.

    -Same reasons
    7.Haanit
-While I liked her as a character, I didn’t love her. I did find her speech pattern a bit annoying after a while. I think getting her last hurt her both as a character and as a party member. She was by far my least useful party member for me, but I see why people like her so much.

-I like Olberic quite a bit, but he’s just a bit too straightforward for me.
    5.Ophilia
-Same as Olberic, but I chose her first. Also, I really like her relationship with her sister.
    4.Primrose
-Great buildup. Great Finale. No conclusive resolution.
    3.Cyrus
-BEST DAMAGE DEALER IN THE GAME. His Divine skill + Ophilia’s =Win. Aside from that, I share many of the same points.
    2.Tressa
-Best Girl. She has infectious enthusiasm and is incredibly useful.
    1.Alfyn
    -Gameplay: Concoct. End of story.
Story: His story resonated the most with me. His Chapter 4 is my favorite part of the game.

      Re:
      8. Therion is actually greater as Character than both you and Oscar make it out to be, he had good reasons for being rude to his superiors, since they actually humiliated and forced him to work for thier fruitless goal of getting back the Dragonstones. His story is also one of the most consistent and better written one of the game having a interesting story of trust and while he is annoying and condescending towards many people, Cyrus included, he is one of the better Characters in the game.
      7. She is just disappointing because her Boss is uninteresting and the built up to him was all destroyed by the fact that he almost never petrifies your party on top of her story vehicles being driven mostly to save her daddy, like most of the main female Cast. Gameplay wise she is a beast, her beast lore and raining arrows are one of the best skills in the game, she is almost as OP as Alfyn if not more.
      6. His story has a lot of logical errors mostly from the main villian's side and while a bit dull is still better than most of the other stories in the game especially in comparison to Primmy's
      5. While ok her motivation amounts to basically: OH MY AELFRIC..... DADDY...as does her sister. Also her villian was shit and overall useless in the plot, about as useful to the game as Autumm is in Fallout 3. Btw why no Ophilia x H'aanit? It was my favourite ship.
      4. Worst story in the game, not only are the majority of all her problems contrived and like in Chapter 1 caused by herself(she literally sold herself to Prostitution instead of going to the Church or becoming a Assassin), they also suffered from terrible plot twist even the most clueless of viewers could or better should be able to see coming and her resolution isn't even liberating since the story pretends that she is some kind of villian killing these assholes amd gameplay wise, she is just bleh.....fitting for the worst traveller.
      3. He would had been better, if it weren't for the hollow monologue's and points he made over the course of the story destroyed by the reality that one of his students is only there to attain his affection and the other as plot device who eill never play a importan role in the story. So he can't pride himself with such ineffective students that serve mostly as gagss and plot devices. Still far above the worst stories.
      2. Only good because it falls to less Pitfalls than the other stories, but it suffers still from disconnection to a degree that males it kind of meh.
      1. Second worst story, pretentious, ignorant and doesn't fit within the theme of the game, because you are killing people with Alfyn in the game and his countrr arguments towards Ogen are cardboard-ish, as empty as a Samurai citing the Shinobi code when his code failed him there.
      My list would be this:
      8.Primrose
      7.Alfyn
      6.H'aanit
      5. Ophilia
      4. Tressa

    @Mechassault_Man 4 года назад +11

Even though I haven't finished every single Octopath Traveler campaign yet, I still want to throw my hat into the ring here.
    8. Therion.
Probably the one character I could do without. His base class isn't exactly something I'd be jumping for joy for. His overall usefulness wasn't too high in my playthrough. Then again he was one of the last characters I obtained, so maybe that has to do with it, though then again, another character was my last pick and he flew through the ranks quickly...
Plus, I felt like he didn't have a spot to play. The most useful he's gotten for me is stealing HP and SP, and donating BP using the Merchant class, but Tressa can already do the latter, so what's the point?
    7. Ophilia
I just finished her story today, and yet I didn't have an extreme love for her. Maybe it's because I don't have an extreme attachment to my faith, or how I think that Lianna was an idiot in the last half of the story, or how I felt like Ophilia had the most annoying speech patter-
    Y O U R
    E X E L L E N C Y
    *ahem* Sorry.
Plus, I felt like later on her healing prowess and magic power was outclassed by Cyrus and later on Primrose who I would give the Sorcerer class. Overall, just a pile of no, which sucks since she's voiced by Cristina Vee, who plays Velvet Crowe, the polar opposite of Ophilia in nearly every way, and is one of my favorite female protagonists in media. Hmm. Weird. That applies to Velvet but not Therion...Wonder what the difference is there.
    6. Cyrus
Cyrus is the first character I had difficulty with. He's arguably the most useful character in the game, with his elemental prowess and damage output, and later in the game you will hopefully realize that Magic is such a powerful option at your disposal that you should use it at any opportunity, However...I just felt like even though he is useful in battle, his personality and speech pattern, (despite his meme-worthy battle quotes) made me like him less and less as time went on. There isn't much else to say, I just felt like others fit his role a bit better than he did. That, or just personal preference.
    5. Olberic
I finished his story today as well, and I did find him rather predictable. His morals change drastically, and it went in a direction I expected. That isn't bad, a character doesn't need to go through such bad things and mind bending problems to be considered amazing. Olberic was kinda generic to me, and I didn't care. He hit things, and hit things hard. XD In battle, he was my go-to attacker. If the enemy was stunned, I would pull out Brand's Thunder, and watch that health bar DROP. Later on when he gets the Hunter class (and even later the Warmaster class, which I haven't unlocked yet) he becomes almost as versatile as Primrose, Alfyn or Cyrus. And due to him being a huge tank, he was a popular pick among my party compositions. Middle of the road, good man, I like him. Also, he's got some great banter with the party.
    4. H'aanit
Numbers 2, 3, and 4 were hard for me. Since I love everyone aside from Therion, and especially the top 4. But H'aanit was probably the most difficult placing here. H'aanit is basically everything Olberic isn't. She's speedier, not as powerful physically, better with magic, albeit slightly as well, has an EXTREME critical chance, and her path action is one of the more unique ones. Her character is great, and very compassionate and hilarious at certain points. She would be a rather nice travel companion, I feel like. H'aanit's battle prowess is unmatched as well, since her Leg Trap ability I recently discovered as one of the best abilities in the game. Add her base class to the Warrior, and later on give her the Apothecary class and you've got yourself a recipe for destruction. Probably one of my favorite characters as well since her voice actress in English is Cindy Robinson, who voiced Zola from Blue Dragon, another favorite RPG of mine, and my Sister's favorite game. So bonus points there.
    3. Tressa
Tressa became one of the best players in my party recently. Character wise she's probably my favorite next to someone higher up on this list, since she's probably the closest thing I'll get to a normal girl in this group. She's probably the one character I would want to hang around the most, just chatting up in a conversation over some drinks or good food. She's so sweet to every other character, and that's a trait that's nice to have. Her philosophy is interesting as well, even if I wouldn't see eye-to-eye with her on everything. Putting your best effort into everything is something I still need to apply to myself, hehe...eh...
But the real reason she's this high? Her ability in battle. Oscar, you weren't kidding about how STUPID OP the Runelord Sidestep combo is. After I discovered this, Olberic's final boss was a JOKE. Add in the ability to pull BP out of thin air, the ability Rest that restores both HP and SP for FREE, and with TRANSFER RUNE on the aforementioned Runelord class, she can apply nearly all of that to the WHOLE PARTY. A free full heal of both HP and SP? YES PLEASE! Thank you, OP Cinnamon Bun!
    2. Alfyn
Alfyn really flew through the ranks. He was the last character I grabbed, funnily enough. At first I felt like he wasn't as good as Ophilia since his path action had such limited uses. But once I was able to buy his herbs to use in battle, HOO BOY, Alfyn became my go-to party healer. If it weren't for Alfyn, most of the bosses and optional content would be kicking my ass. I wouldn't be as far in the game if it wasn't for him. Alfyn's also got some of the higher physical prowess of the party with that axe of his. With Amputation and Last Stand equipped, Alfyn was an alternative to H'aanit and Olberic for being a damage dealer. Especially against mobs, Last Stand is great for that. And later on, once you get more herbs to mix together, getting maxed on BP for a boss rushdown is so much easier. Just get a moderate herb, mix some Pomegranate essence, and you've got enough for a Max level attack. Giving him Warrior and Hunter is a great combo for him, and if his damage is increased enough, he can rival Olberic and H'aanit in power.
His character was alright as well, personally I felt like he was one of the weaker characters, since he's, in my opinion, Tressa but a dude. Well, with a bit more of a dense head than Tressa and the other members of the party. (*cough cough* Chapter 3's Miguel *cough cough*)
    1. Primrose
Prim was my first character pick. I became attached to her almost instantly. And no, it's not because of her "attractive" outfit. That's a slight reason. It's mainly for her sexy voice in English. ruclips.net/video/xBoN12N9sco/видео.html&t XD
But seriously, I found Primrose to be the most engaging to me. Again, it's probably because she was the first character I picked, but I just found her extremely enjoyable to see. Her Chapter 1 is probably my favorite in the game, due to the buildup of fighting Helgenish, the death of Yusufa, Primrose's "Master....go pleasure yourself." which I still get chills listening to, the whole nine yards. With Primrose being my first pick, it made her the highest leveled character in my party, and as a result, the best to use in tough fights. With her ability to Buff party members, and her Darkness spells, her versatility was pretty good. And as I found more classes and more Dagger weapons, her usefulness kept going up. I will admit that in certain conditions I wish she wasn't in the party, since I would've preferred to have another fill her spot, but I enjoyed her company more than ever.
Then there's her character. I honestly liked how her character went through the arc of being determined at first, then beginning self doubt, then recognizing it, then accepting it, and understanding that she will find a reason. I felt it was a understandable progression of her ideology, and when it wrapped up, I felt satisfied even though the character herself didn't get some closure. Her chapters were good early on but began to lose steam in the later half. I guess I have memories of the annoying final boss for her story. Hated that fight.
Lastly, I feel like I have to address how I view Prim as a person, since I firmly believe that she is the most prim (hehe) and proper lady I've seen in a while. Her appearance, her hair, her voice, her profession as a dancer, she'd make a perfect Femme Fatale in my opinion, and someone who I honestly would want to have watching my back, just like all the other adorable companions in Octopath.
Whew, that was a lot. Whadd'ya guys think?

Screw it, might as well make my own list to your list to Oscar’s list.
      8: Tressa
As a character, I do like her, but the merchant job is just kind of…weird. The proper merchant-y skills are nice I guess, but the weird weakness coverage feels like they were just filling a niche, instead of what would fit a merchant. There’s some good stuff in there, like donate BP and especially that evade skill (really good when fighting Winnehild), but even those are niche picks. No idea why Oscar likes the divine skill so much; yeah, it does good damage, but other attack divine skills do that job better, and most of the purely support divine skills surpass even the good damage dealers. Tressa just never found a niche in my parties.
      7: Olberic
A far more useful party member, held back by other travelers stealing his role. Olberic honestly does his job well as main damage dealer, able to cut through enemies with powerful sword and spear skills, despite lacking elemental coverage completely. He’s probably the character with whom a new player will learn to full boost skills: a full boosted Cross Slash on a broken foe rips them to shreds. However, like I said, he sadly isn’t unique, especially in that big blow damage department: if you just need a full boosted strong attack to massacre a broken enemy, Alfyn and H’aanit can both do that job just as well, and have far better utility alongside it.
      6: Cyrus
Oh, Cyrus. He’s the first that I think differs in usefulness from early to late game, and sadly not in his favor. Sure, I’m the early game, his scholar job is amazing, shredding break gauges faster than anyone else. However, unlike the other three secret jobs, simply compliments to whichever character ends their path in their respective region, the sorcerer is just straight up a better scholar. Add in a certain other character who’s a perfect candidate for being a sorcerer, along with their main job being really important, and Cyrus simply becomes redundant in the endgame.
      5: Therion
The guy I picked first on my first run; sadly, I can’t ignore his flaws. Well, his one flaw, but it’s a pretty major one: his pitiful selection of normal skills. Though better than Tressa’s for sure, they’re still rather situational, and more often than not I’m just never in the right situations. However, sword and knife coverage is pretty solid for normal attacks, and he can be a pretty solid damage dealer once you get that divine skill. That said, while I find him more useful than my previous listings, I can’t deny he’s still lacking.
      4: H’aanit
Honestly, I wanted to rank H’aanit higher, but the late game favors support skills over raw damage. I’ll start with the negatives: I’m not a fan of her catching mechanic. Or, more accurately, I’m not a fan of using caught animals to beat up villagers. Severely limits my options and usually ends badly for me, one job where Olberic is the better choice. However, her Hunter job itself is really solid: a single target smash for broken foes, a multi-hit all target attack for group damage and shredding break gauges if enemies are weak to bows, some elemental coverage, and the most important skill of all, Leghold Trap. The ability to take all of a boss’s multiple turns, and ensure they go at the end of a cycle. Trust me, you want those boss turns happening all at once, after the party has already gone, rather than let them screw you over in between your party’s actions. I rank my main supports higher, but H’aanit is my main damage dealer for sure.
      3: Ophelia
My go to healer, if only because the other one is often predisposed (I’ll get to that). Simply put, consistently putting out good group healing is just really good, plus she has plenty of other good tricks to pull out like reflecting magic. Great for being a full on support and not just healing. Especially with the secret jobs: unlike Cyrus getting replaced by the sorcerer, the starseer was practically made to pair with Ophelia’s cleric job. Subclassing into that, she becomes the ultimate magic support.
      2: Alfyn
This is a funny one, since it’s not Alfyn’s job that gets him this high. Apothecary is good, sure, with good healing, nice physical skills that let Alfyn muscle out Olberic, and that juicy status effect immunity skill. However, the real draw is, of course, Alfyn’s exclusive concoct skill; more specifically, spamming pomegranate essences. Status effects are king in Octopath, especially in the late game: you’re going to want to stay topped up on BP at all times, if not to spam divine skills, then to get the maximum durations on your own buffs and debuffs. Alfyn’s always solid, but going into the endgame without his enabling of BP spam is tantamount to suicide.
      1: Primrose
Maybe I should’ve put her a spot lower, as the dancer works best in tandem with Alfyn spamming pomegranate drinks. Primrose is another character who differs in usefulness throughout the game, but this time it’s an opposite to Cyrus: she starts off kind of useless, but gets exponentially better as the game goes on. First of all, she has a good magic stat, so she’s my prime candidate to replace Cyrus once I get the sorcerer job. The real draw, though, is her dancer divine skill: opening up the target bottleneck turns a crapton of buff skills from worthless to vital. With starseer Ophelia, sorceror Primrose, and Alfyn in the same party, you ideally want to spam divine skills and concoctions with the latter two and keep that Sealticge effect up on Ophelia at all times. Or whoever else may need it: maybe you want it on Alfyn so he can consistently maintain a status immunity on the party. Maybe Alfyn’s keeping BP up so well you can Sealtigce two people, and you can defense boost with Ophelia as well as group buff attack or magic with Primrose. Sealtigce’s Seduction is useful on at least 2/3 of all the jobs, taking support skills that are single target and thus rendered useless, and removing that restriction to make them vital. She’s half the reason Ophelia is as good as she is on support. That’s why Primrose is my number one: I consider her divine skill the single most important skill in the entire game.

Ophelia for me, I chose her because the cleric often tends to be the unsung hero in jrpg, always needed but never taking the central stage in the adventure, which is ironic in this case with ophelia because her story ended up being the most crucial one to the plot, arguably. The only bad thing I can say her about her storyline is that it set a standart way too high for me for all of the other final chapter of the other characters because she is the only character that has banter constantly during her final battle with her final enemy. I went to the other chapter expecting this and was slightly dissapointed but not to the point of ruining the other storylines.

A knight with no king or Kingdom is one of the traveler's way. It is a knight still but they do not stay in one place. They roam and think on their past. Olberic is taking this to the extreme in my opinion, he lost the kingdom he swore to protect along with his King, his brother in arms betrayed him and killed the king in broad daylight, and now he question the meaning of a blade whilst under a false name of Berg. And I absolutely love this! I'm a D&D/ path/ponyfinder fan normally I specialize in the stealth like thief, rouge, and/or ninja character of the game but I have always ALWAYS admired those who chose the Warriors path and fought for the party on the front taking the hit for me and my friends. And I think it's about time that I try this role as well taking up the way of the sword.
H'aanit is a interesting character as well. Although I plan to use Olbric when I eventually get a switch and the game I might make a second file just for H'aanit to lead. As some one who bonds deeply with animals H'aanit is interesting for her packed with animals alone.

Though not my absolute favorite, Primrose is definitely one of my favorites. Dancer is a bit of a weak class at first, only to become one of the most important in the endgame. That divine skill, Sealticge’s Seduction…I’d argue it’s the best divine skill in the whole game. Add in how well she takes to the magic based secret jobs, and she goes from a niche pick at the start to practically required by the end.

I've always had a weird thing with Octopath. I always view Cyrus in the least favorable light because no matter how I try to play the game, literally everyone else does whatever jobs I try to give to him better meanwhile I always view Tressa in the most favorable light because her build allowed her to fill any role and when the secret jobs come in.... there is no better Rune Knight.
Just to share my list would be:
    8. Cyrus - Wasn't too fond of his character and never excelled at anything. The NPC interactions were better left to Alfyn and his unique combat skill was easily made pointless by either looking up weaknesses online.... or his own class giving you the scan ability for free. His final boss was kinda disappointing for me as well.
    7. Alfyn - He was really handy, wasn't too fond of his character, especially what the story pulls for his final chapter.
    6. Therion - Not too fond of his character but I found him pretty fun to use and enjoyed his final boss as well.
    5. Ophelia - Her healing and holy magic Helped me out quite a bit and was my secondary mage throughout most of the game. Kinda loved how hammy her final boss was.
    4. Olberic - I'm a sucker for a disgraced knight's redemption story and his had plenty including plenty of duels that I found fun to experiment with when I was too used to my usual team synergy. For some reason fit oddly well as a cleric for me. Like I could've given him Alfyn's job but he really was an oddly proficient cleric for me.
    3. H'aanit - Her capture mechanic really had me exploring the game more and more wanting to see what each monster did and almost transformed the game into pokemon for me. I also found her character and story to be very entertaining.... and I won't lie, because of some art I found I kept her in the dancer class because she rocked the outfit too hard.
    2. Primrose - My main mage throughout my entire playthrough, as far as I'm concerned she easily had the best story. My only issue is I found her oddly unwieldy with her main class. Despite that however I found her to use plenty of other with plenty of proficiency, I mainly just picked the mage-like classes for her since no one else really came close in terms of effectiveness with those classes.
    1. Tressa - This adorable little treasure embodied so much of what I enjoy about fantasy rpgs that it was almost unfair. A light hearted story inspired by a book she found that made her want to see the world. She met friends and a rival along the way. Her unique action with other NPCs was almost refreshingly friendly... And I loved how the merchant class worked, it actually incorporated money in a surprisingly fun way for me balancing gaining currency with her final skill and using mercenaries to deal damage.... and then there's her rest skill and side step which when paired with Rune Knight almost always helped me out of a bind.

The whole thing you said about Primrose' story peaking too early is why I say though I absolutely adore this game and spent over 100 hours on it, I think the stories would've REALLY benefitted from having more than 4 chapters, at least 5 would've helped tell more for all 8 Travelers. As for the Tie in of the game, my dissapointment is the way it was shoehorned into one single area.
I enjoyed it; don't get me wrong, the the final segment of the game felt kinda rushed together, albeit what DOES tie the travelers together is pretty well done, packing it into one zone left me wanting more and that's one of the only things that stops me from giving the game a perfect 10, though I will say it's one of the best RPGs I've played in years.

Sure he’s anti-social at first, but I love the snarky characters and his dry wit saves him long enough for me to be invested in him, and once his backstory is fully out in the open he ended up becoming my favourite. Excellent video!
I will say that Therion I was going to have no surprises regardless of whether he's at the bottom, top, or somewhere in between. I chose him as my starter character based on his ability to find loot and unlock chests, and most every list puts him at either the top and the bottom. I personally really like him, and he was a lot more likable and less rude in the Japanese version. I do agree with the story points as well as both the high points and low points though.
I was surprised to see Ophelia low on the list. That being said, I wouldn't call being so nice a criticism for her character, and she's a religious character done right. In addition to all her healing arts and her reflective viel, she becomes truly excellent whenever paired up with a certain someone whom I'll mention later. And I do consider her the perfect candidate for the Starseer job. That being said, her story is more interesting than the character herself, and she has by far the best Chapter 4 villain.
Primrose is easily a fan favorite, so it was going to be heavily shocking for her to be that low. And I too am shocked. She does have easily the most interesting story. I really like her buffs and her Dark Magic, which she's works best for having a Scholar or better yet a Sorcerer as her secondary skill. And she's excellent when paired up with Ophelia. When she used Reflective Viel on the entire part, the party becomes immune to magic similar to another ability.
Cyrus, Another amazing character that I really like. He is the cool teacher who believes knowledge should be shared with the whole world even if he's kind of a nerd around women. His varied Magic and Finding of Weak Points is also really helpful indeed. He is awesome, but there are better characters out there for certain.
Alfyn is probably my favorite Male character in the game overall; he has practically everything from supporting the party, finding elemental weaknesses, being the ultimate tank, and even his poison skills and Axe attacks can give decent damage. But it's a shame that not even he's included in my favorite party. But as an individual, I would choose him over Ophelia or Primrose if it weren't for those two's excellence as a duo.
Tressa is probably the most underrated character in the game. I was originally going to write her off as one of the characters I put at the bottom due to being the Jack of all Trades who doesn't really excel at anything. But I was wrong to do that. Her purchase skill may not be as fun as Therion's but, he ability to fund change is enough for me to wish I chose her as my starter character. And her Side Step ability with Runelord is broken indeed. Use her full party side step and full party reflective veil with Primrose and Ophelia, and the party is invincible.
I'm so glad to see another H'aanit fan. She is the ultimate physical damage dealer, I'll address the one and only one who comes close as well as the counter argument later, but yes she is. Her Beast Lore is also incredibly useful with all the summons and various abilities she can use. Especially the Soul devouring one that's so broken against the true Final Boss. But build her up till she learns the 99999 damage skill from Warrior and then make her the Warmaster, and she's truly the best powerhouse. And also, she concludes the all female party being my favorite party in the game.
Olberic, not to be blunt, but I found him to be one of the least interesting characters. He is great for sure and based on most of the things you laid out in the video, but he does still have his cliches here and there. And he's not the strongest physically or defensively. He may be your main physical lead, but I'll address to things. He's not the most durable, Alfyn is. And he doesn't have the highest strength, H'aanit does. H'aanit also critical hits more and has better accuracy. It's just Warrior Skills being stronger than Hunter skills overall is what hides that a bit. But H'aanit does overall have potiantial to be a bit stronger of a Warmaster.

Honestly, Prim will always be my #1.
I really, really liked the concept of her skill set, being a pretty good utility class to begin with. Buffs and Darkness magic? Yes, please! And her story line, while it does tend to peak right at the beginning, grabbed me IMMEDIATELY. I felt a connection with her, and just wanted to give her a big hug. Then, when it came to her Chapter 4, I felt nothing but boiling rage, with the sole idea of just ending her story in the most emphatic way possible.

For me. Note: Don’t actually dislike ANY of the characters.
    8. Hannit: Love her philosophy regarding the natural world. My beef with her is gameplay wise. Provoke is a strictly worse Challenge. Found her to be way too technical for my tastes. To be fair, I found Hunter to be an excellent second class (Leghold trap is too good to pass up) and she makes a great warmaster. Red Eye I found to be one of the more irritating end bosses.
    7. Therion: Worst character from a narrative perspective, though his dialogue was pretty funny. Gameplay wise theif is quite useful both as a primary and secondary class. The lock pick stuff was annoying too. Darius was a bit of an anti climatic end boss (one of the easiest of the eight end bosses).
    6. Cyrus: Seems to me like text book Aspergers. My problem with him is a case of strong early game, weak late game. Not that he’s bad, its just that Sorceror steals his thunder. He does make for an excellent cleric with his natural high elemental resistance (healing is governed by this stat).
    5. Alfyn: Apothecary is like the anti Hunter. Broken primary class (but requires high skill level to get the most of it), but a terrible second class unless you’re Olberic.
    4. Olphilia: One of those characters who trades an atrocious early game for a potent late game, especially when Star Seer comes into play. Love how she trivializes magic heavy bosses, especially when comboed with Primrose (target Ophilia with BOTH dancer and cleric divine skills -> reflect -> sit back and laugh as casters “summon their personas” by hitting themselves for more damage than they would have inflicted on you). Christina Vee did an excellent
    job with her.
    3. Olberic: The definitive tank when given apothecary. Loved his story and how he subverts all the fighter sterotypes by being like a wise veteran.
    2. Primrose: My favorite story. Probably the way to handle a revenge plot done right. Note just how restrained she was regarding her revenge, namely her strict code of No Collateral Damage (ie do what you can to prevent innocent people from getting hurt). Like Ophilia, is like magicarp. Becomes Gyrados when you give her scholar or sorceror. Trivia: This is Laura Post’s first non villainous role.
    1. Tressa: Love her cheerful nature and raw versatility. She can slot into any role in the party via proper multiclassing due to her jack of all trades stat line.

ThexZeldaxChampx90 The way this game works, you don’t play through a character’s whole story all at once. You bounce around to different stories. So just start with whatever character interests you most, since they’ll end up stuck in your party for most of the game.

My top 4: Hannit, Therion, Tressa and Ophilia
Therion not only steal sp for himself, but also share with the others. also, the divine skill when put him with a high speed wiped easily the hordes, he by his class only helped my all the game, I transitioned among classes, but didnt get a definitive second for him. I think I used apothecary the most, last stand combined with rune transfer to follow up magic atack in everyone.
Hannit is my pokemon trainer, also love bow/arrow and ranger in RPGs. Warmasterde her.
Tressa is so adorable, detemined and I love her quotes and voice (my turn now) and utility(and common, runelord tressa is OP). Ophilia is so good person, I fell in love. Also she keeps the party alive and destroys in magic department. Sorcerer her.
My game and post game was very fun with them.

I like all of them but if i were to rank them from worse to best:
8 hannit - her speech gets annoying but she’s still an awesome pokemon trainer...
7 olberic - a bit generic but i am fond of him. He also has one of my favorite stories.
6 ophilia - i love healing units and her voice is cute
5 therion - i just like the rude type
4 alfyn - his kindness knows no bound
3 tressa - one of my favorite paths cause of how heartwarming it is and also very relatable. She’s also *precious*
2 cyrus - love the sorcerer class and he’s just a cool mysterious guy. His story is also pretty dark and i love it.
1 primrose - easily my favorite prologue of all paths. I love her silent nature and it was satifying seeing her father’s murderer die one by one. Overall, her character and story makes her my favorite of the eight. Cyrus is a close choice tho...

"Top eight octopath travelers"? So, all 8 of them? The guy loves Octopath Traveler. So do i. It's a masterpiece.
Thoughts: You're downplaying the importance of the Fool's Bangle to Therion, it's a personal matter, a stain on his profession. It's being branded with an embarrassing message. Primrose? "Omg, i love him so much"? I NEVER got that impression from her, her story is nothing but dark, meaningful drama. There's like a second of romance with that childhood friend guy, but that's it, and that's more of just past exposition. Cyrus's density was on black hole proportions, i loved it too. I love all of them. I loved all the stories, but i loved playing Alfyn's quite a bit, it was deep. Tressa and her story are great, i still ship her with her rival. I stole all the good stuff by save scumming. Haanit's ability is really cool, i just wondered if it would've been better if you could stack caught monsters. Like, you could still only catch a certain amount of slots, but the monsters could stack in the slots. I ship Haanit with the Oracle's bodyguard SO hard. Olberic's story was pretty good, but not my favorite. It's hard to pin a favorite though. I know i really enjoyed Alfyn's, Offillia's, Primrose's and Tressa's was great too. They were all good in different ways. Yeah, i can't give a favorite, i really liked Haanit's too... i was going to give least favorites, but it gives me a bad feeling to downplay any of them.

Therion is my #1, I value getting all the chests I can in one run of a dungeon and his story of isolation and learning to trust again reminds me of how people can stab you in the back. Also, if you pair therion's high evasion with the warrior skills, he can make for a deceptive protector...

@@deecee7073 you can steal some good stuff from enemies but from what I can tell, you don't need to steal from bosses like you did in other old school RPGs because sure you can get good items but the best you can get are revitalizing jellies but weapons and armor are usually rewards/drops

    8) olberic. I always preferred hannit for battle and thought he was boring.
    7) ophilia, another naive cleric girl, a trope I always disliked.
    6) tressa, similar reasons to ophilia.
    5) Cyrus, hes smart, but incredibly dense. good nuke early game though.
    4) Hannit: she's a great warrior, but not a great people person, and easily flustered. pretty funny.
    3) primrose, revenge yada yada, but great buffs and good Midgame nukes.
    2) alfyn, a good boy with op skills and great heals
    1) therion. as you said, very dynamic, but I honestly just really like him as a fighter. the side characters in his story are great.

My favourite character by far is Alfyn. He's just a fun cool dude. I also think he's probably the strongest character in the game with by far the best battle skill with concoct. He can hit all elemental weaknesses, do the most healing in the game, can debuff enemies and joined with the dancer class, OMG HE'S FUCKING INCREDIBLE! Most fun character in the game. Prim is my 2nd favourite because dancer is my favourite class in the game plus her story is a lot more dark and deep than you would think when you start off. Her father was killed and betrayed, she was a prostitute against her will and her only true ally stabbed her and left her to die. Cyrus is my 3rd favourite but since he was my starter character I'm probably a bit biased. He's probably the 2nd most powerful character in my opinion. I also agree with how he is a complete genius in some ways and fucking ash Ketchum levels of idiot in other ways. He sort of reminds me of yusuke out of persona 5 due to the fact that they are very dedicated to one thing but can just make situations so fucking awkward and dumb. I like all the rest a lot (except Therion FU).

I've always loved former knights who are now looking for purpose in life, and Olberic just scratched that itch. He's my first pick, he's my favorite, he's the best.
    My rankings would be:
    8:Alfyn
    7:Tressa
    6:Therion
    5: Ophelia
    4:Primrose
    3:Haanit
    2:Cyrus
    1:Olberic

Okay, this might be a super stupid question to those who have played the game already, but here goes: So, I got a Switch for my birthday (bless my dear mother), and I bought Octopath Traveler for it not long after, because I love RPG's and have heard amazing things about it. So I boot it up, start with Alfyn, go to Bolderfall to take Therion along after I know I can take him along...then end up in Therion's first chapter? Is this normal, and do I go back to Alfyn afterwards? Or am I stuck as Therion now?

Primrose is by far my favorite character, to the point where if they made the entire rpg solely about her and her story I would have bought it. Plus making her my sorceress did a real number on pretty much every boss
To me, cyrus might be my least favorite based solely on the fact that hes basically a walking harem protagonist, apparently super smart and super attractive, yet has absolutely no idea when a girl hits on him. And the fact that he forgives the girl who basically lost him his job

Given that I started with Therion, I grew most attached to him and his playstyle (rogue by heart). Overall, I my list would go (top to bottom) Therion, Tressa, Cyrus, Primrose, Alfyn, Haanit, Ophilia, and then Olberic. I've never been one for strightforward combat-centric fighters like Olberic and Haanit (not that they didn't have their uses from time to time) but I prefer the Persona way of breaking my enemies and debuffing them while buffing my team to the point of them no longer being a problem. Then again, that's me.

8- Aalfyn- Only thing I have to say is that his fourth chapter was epic but that’s it
7 Haanit- she was the definition of Meh for me
6 ophilia- her chapter 2 is the most heartwarming part of the game
5 Primrose- overrated but I still like
4 tressa-ended up liking her way more than I should’ve
3 theareon- stupidest chapters but amazing characters
2 olberic-The savage op tank slash older brother we all want
1 Cyrus this is the guy I started off with and if you start off with him he’s pretty much the most overpowered one just get your first skill and have it be the lightning devil attack and then nuke the rest of the game
