A shout out has to go to the kekleon from Pokémon mystery dungeon, who not only alone is strong enough to straight up one shot most legendary Pokémon, but even calls not only every single pokemon in the area to come get you, but also can call more of their own kind to really bring the punishment. Plus they set up shop where ever they damn well feel like, whether it be a peaceful town, or in the middle of a violent dungeon, they got business to do, and they're more than tough enough to get it done.

The Kecleon shops in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games are always entertaining. There's the shops in the town with the Kecleon brothers (one that sells consumables and throwables and the other sells equipment, moves and orbs). There's also the random appearances within the dungeons (drop items to sell and pick up to buy. If you refuse to pay, they will proceed to attack you).

I feel like Tanaka from the Persona franchise needed a mention. He was a great way to connect the games together, was in all honesty, an interesting social link, and he kinda had a character arc of his own as the games progressed going from Honest yet con-ish sales on tv, to suspect sales on a secret website. It’s quite interesting.

Okay I got a BIT worried that Rodin wouldn’t make it in but I am GLAD he made it to number 1. Played good ol Bayonetta for the first time a while ago and Rodin was certainly a highlight of the game. And he certainly found a great Number 1 customer who is in constant threat of angel massacre that she kills the buggers on sight. She doesn’t have use for those halos but Rodin sure does. Oh and also still glad Anne was on the list somewhere. Inter dimensional shop keepers who’s compassion is business among the long line of family Anne’s can sure be hectic at family reunions. XD

A interesting thing about Marcus is that everything, even his weight, is a thought out move. The reason he is fat is because Moxxie gave him the idea. If your smart, look sexy. If your strong, look weak. So he gained the pounds to look weak, so people would underestimate him.

My own Honorable Mention of mine would probably be Cranky Kong.
He has so much to say, he talks about selected items and even chimes in his thoughts after each purchase. And he's not just one note in talking about what the items do what he says ranges from Taunts, Advice and References to other games. Plus he sometimes talks about the current world you are in and even talks about paying rent and people sticking him in this crappy home letting the player know that yes, DK Isle is a fully realized world and not just a simple collection of platforming stages and world building is something the game actually does pretty well.

My favorite merchant in gaming is actually an entire species that doesn't really qualify: the Nopon from Xenoblade Chronicles. The reason I'm saying that they wouldn't qualify is because the ones you interact with personally are not the ones you buy from. You do interact with named Nopon merchants and even help them out, but the ones you buy stuff from are nameless npc. Unless you count the trading system in the game

Mr. Hanekoma from The World Ends With You is a pretty nice shopkeeper. As the guy who basically tells Neku how the Reaper's Game works, and tells him to pull his head out of his ass, he's the one guy who is actually out to help players. And he runs his very own cafe on Cat Street. The things he sells are pretty good food items that boost your stats, and even tutorial items that tell you about major mechanics in the game. And not just that, but when you unlock the post game, and go to Pork City, he acts as the game's Super Boss! Overall, he's a likable character because of how he's trying to help, but can't flat out give you the answers.

Merchants! I was thinking about a list like that! Great minds man! My thoughts on your picks?
    10. I prefer Temmie to this creep, but you do make me think twice.
    9. Haven't played Stardew yet, but yeah, I'd trust Pierre more than Morris.
    8. Ozzie Ozborn! Yeah I loved this guy when I first met him in that game. Thanks for reminding of how funny and awesome he is!
    7. As long as Marcus still cheers me on taking on Handsome Jack, he's cool with me.
    6. EHEHEHEHE. THANK YEH. FER INCLUDIN HIM.
    5. Lotsa good merchants in Zelda. I don't mind Beedle either, but your number two pick gets my vote as best because *Spoiler Alert* HES LINK IN ANOTHER WORLD. He's good enough to be in Hyrule Warriors too!
    4. Knew Anna would get on this list. I love her a lot too. She loves money in a way that makes her seem wonderful rather than greedy, she's helpful and gives good sales to her friends and returning customers, and the later games seem to do a good job at trying to flesh out each Anna to make each one unique.
    3. Merchants in the God of War? I need to start playing this series, or at least this game in particular.
    2. Yeah I never hated Nook either. At least he gives you all the time in the world to repay your loans. AND HE DOESNT SELL COUNTERFEIT ITEMS I CANT DONATE TO MUSEUMS SCREW YOU REDD!! >=0
HM: Definitely creepy and very lonely kind of "merchant" to run into during a game like Bioshock.
    1. Rodin is a seriously awesome badass to be sure. Good merchant, good character, and REALLY deep as far as lore goes.
As for my own pick of a good merchant, I'd actually pick Ms. Mowze from Paper Mario. Yeah she's a thief too, but she does sell you badges and makes for a pretty neat party member if you choose to clear her own sidequest. Pretty neat combination if you ask me.
Great list man! Can't wait for your next one! And if you need suggestions, Light/Dark users, Song/Voice fighters, and Androids/Cyborgs are ones I've been thinking about for some time lately.

When thinking of shopkeepers in Animal Crossing, I tend to think more of Able and Sable. Able is pretty nice and adorable as it is, but it was always Sable that I was always most fond of. The first time I interacted with her in Animal Crossing DS, she was very quiet and hardly willing to talk to you. I didn't think much of it and continued trying to talk to her. Until one day, she started opening up to me and was more talkative. As part of my routine, I made it a point to visit the shop to talk to Sable, and it was such a joy to see her go from someone quiet, to someone that would greet you with a smile whenever you approached her. I don't play Animal Crossing these days, but honestly, some of my fondest memories with the game come talking with Sable.

One of my fave merchants would definitely be Vulgrim from the Darksiders series. He's also gonna be coming back for the third game as well for any fans who didn't know if he'd make another appearance. Vulgrim is one of the best of not THE best black market merchant within the universe of Darksiders. It's implied that while he doesn't show just how powerful he is, he's taken people out of commission before to better his business. Not to mention he must he powerful if he can demand crazy prices like the tongue of a Leviathan from Death himself. For a better explanation, check out True Masters and Morons' lore video on him.

I’m a little surprised that Zacharie from OFF didn’t appear on the list. He’s a more enigmatic character in the strange world of OFF, with him consistently letting the player know they’re in a game- literally, he’s a fourth-wall breaker, which makes him stand out more compared to other characters in the game. The weirder thing about him is just how seemingly carefree and charismatic he is compared to everyone else, or how he seems to know more than he lets on. But more than anything, he’s the funniest character in the game. I’d say more, but if you haven’t played OFF yet, I’d highly recommend it, and I don’t want to spoil too much- I’ll just say, Zacharie makes a hilarious drug joke.

I feel like Igor from persona would fit in. He’s not a merchant in a traditional sense but the velvet room does offer services like paying money to get certain personas. Theres also the fact that like a shopkeeper in other games you have to keep on going back to Igor to get stronger or pay him something to get something you want or need. Plus he is a crucial part to the Persona franchise. And he may look like the kind of character that stabs you in the back at the tip of a hat but he is probably one of the most polite characters in gaming.

My number one is the same as yours, but one of my personal runner-ups is Tanaka from Personas 3-5. His social link in 3 is pretty interesting what with how it starts by him scamming you out of a LOT of yen & a legitimate friendship forming from that, that theme song is catchy as hell, & the fact that he goes from a salesman on TV in 3 & 4 to the internet equivalent of a back-alley merchant in 5 just adds to the charm.

How dare you not mention the glorious that is O'aka the XXIII from FFX or his brother, Wantz. I love how your introduce to him in FFX and love his returning presence in FFX-2. He travels all around Spira, much like any Summoner, and tries to sell his stuff. when he see's Yuna's gang going on a Summoner Pilgrimage, he becomes devout supporter, trying to help out in any way.... for a fee of course. It gets more interesting when you learn why he keeps helping you out and thats because his sister used to be a summoner. In FFX-2 he purchases one of Rins shop that is Lake Macalania. However due to events that caused it to sank in the bottom, he is in debt with the Al Bhed. If you help him by buying his stuff so he can get out of debt, he returns only to find that the debt collecters died to some fiends in the area. Feeling Adamant that he couldn't repay them he decided to stay at that shop, selling to whoever passes by.

I had hoped Rodin would be on here, but I never expected he’d be #1. Not that I’m complaining. He’s one of the best things about the Bayonetta series. And he says some of the most amusing things.

My favorite is Keckleon from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. These charming chameleons can be found in most dungeons, giving players a chance to offload treasure and buy supplies. Or you could sell everything you own, pick it back up along with his wares, and try to book it......
    Just be prepared to run.
From the endless horde of max level shopkeepers that will track you until you escape to the next floor.

21:33 That story is actually kinda funny in how Loki brought it on himself. See, the whole reason that Mjolnir existed was because Brok and Sindri had leftover materials from an order placed by Loki. Specifically, a full head of replacement Golden hair to replace the hair he cut off of Sif head, which Thor nearly killed him over. See, Sif's hair was an identifier if her being a Goddess of Fertility which ties into her being Thor's loving wife, and it her hair represented that role by being as long and golden as a "Field of golden wheat." As such, Loki put in the order before Thor could tear his head off, and subsequently wagered said head to Brok and Sindri if they couldn't make these extra items next to his original order to make anyone happy. These items include:
    A large chariot-pulling golden boar.
Skidbladnir, which became Freyr's boat that could fold small enough to fit in one's pockets.
    Gungnir, Odin's prized spear.
A magical ring that duplicated eight versions of itself every nine days.
And finally, Mjolnir, Thor's trusted runty hammer.
Hilariously, the size of Mjolnir's haft was done because Brok tried to slap a fly annoying him and he slipped up. And that fly was, you guessed it: Loki, trying to screw them over to not lose the bet. Brok and Sindri, after impressing everyone, were giving Loki's neck some funny looks, until Loki said "NOT MY NECK!" They them cut his head off sans neck, after sewing his mouth shut.

10: Can't go wrong with a little realism.
9: That moment where he punches the dude and puts on shades afterwards is what sold me.
8: ALL ABOARD, HA HA HA HA HA HA!
7: The more I watch videos with this game as a topic, the more I wish I could play this game.
6: Every horror game needs a little light humor.
5: Thank you Zelda Universe for introducing me to this buffoon of a merchant.
4: What is it with Nintendo RPGs and awkward family trees.
3: How come Brok's blue and Sindri is not?
2: Mr. Nook is the most reasonable swindler I have ever seen.
    1: God was my Co-Pilot.

I'd like to give a shoutout to O'aka from Final Fantasy X. He travels all over Spira, selling in monster-infested forests, army camps, even near the exit of a labyrinth that no one has ever left alive, and even sells to the party once they've been branded criminals because he has faith in their innocence. Even after he gets arrested for helping you, he sends his younger brother Wantz to take his place and supply you with items and weapons.
Also, Tanaka from Persona since he's absolutely everywhere and is probably Nyarlathotep in disguise.

The shopkeepers in the square in Pokémon: Red/Blue Rescue Team deserves a mention.
They sell you items, take care of your money, sell you new areas for your teammates to live, and interact with you throughout the whole story, gradually growing fonder and more proud of you as your Team makes a name for itself. I always feel AWFUL during the part, where they're made to think you're a criminal and you have to flee from the village with them being visibly upset to have to try and catch/harm you. They're as much a part of your attachment to the setting as your own partner Pokémon is, and I always feel glad to see them again on replays.

Shopkeepers are people who sell you want you want or need.
Well, we have a fine desert peddler here.
Also, I personally love the shopkeepers from TWEWY as you can raise their affection gauge as you buy more from them becoming a loyal, friendly customer. They also each add their own touch onto the amazing world-building of Shibuya from the fast food girl who wants to ask Neku out, to the chill CD vender, to the snooty high-class jeweler.

Crypt of the Necrodancer's shopkeeper. It's a rhythm/dungeon crawler game where you fight and move to the best of the music, and the shopkeeper sings along if you're nearby. Just... Don't try to kill him...

One of my favourites that wasn't mentioned in this video (not even as a split second background clip) is Reda from Assassins Creed Origins. He only sells 2 items, those being loot boxes (for in game currency only) that are guaranteed to have either a rare or legendary item, and carbon crystals which are needed for the highest level equipment upgrades and are difficult to obtain in the world, usually only being present in enemy strongholds.
What I love about him though is how mysterious he is. He obviously looks like a small child yet is completely independent. He is extremely well traveled, showing up in basicslly every city in the game, and he can never keep his own backstory straight which is just hilarious.
Plus while his stuff is expensive, he will give you a side quest once a day and reward you with a free loot box upon completion.

Glover Mallory from Skyrim. He's the brother of Thieves Guild member Delvin Mallory, and is one of the only vendors who sells Ebony and Stalhrim, as well as items enchanted with Chaos Damage. He's also a former member of the Guild himself, and the father of another member of the Thieves Guild, Sapphire, which you find out if you are a Guild member and question him about the Shadowmark on his house, the subsequent quest rewards you with everything in his house not nailed down, including the Blackguard Armor and a letter for Sapphire which nets you the most valuable jewel in the game. The Blackguard Armor is also equivalent to the Guild-Master Armor, which requires bringing the Guild back to its full strength in order to acquire. And after completing The Final Descent, he will always mention how nice it is that Raven Rock is prospering again, and everyone is happy.

My favorite shopkeeper has been the Kecleeon Brothers from the Mystery Dungeon Games. They don't really play a big role story wise, but they could be a life saver in a dungeon if they spawn. They also stick out because if you try to steal from one of them they will be the crap out of you like the Koholint merchant.

My personal favorite shopkeeper has to be Zacharie from OFF. A lot of us love fourth wall breaking characters, they’re often the most entertaining characters in the games. What’s better than a merchant who not only fulfills your every need (including taking over as your guide when the judge becomes unavailable) AND has lines of dialogue such as “What a lovely sight. It almost makes me forget that this is a video game”? He also gives you an insanely big hint for one of the later puzzles if you give him a music box.

He has goods from all around hyrule and will will go to boiling hot places like gerudo desert and freezing cold places like tabantha tundra just to sell his items. He has a lot of dedication to assist hyrule with his goods and I respect him for that. He also has one of my favorite shopkeeper phrases ever.
    "I'll buy aaaaaaanything!"
