    I lived in one of these for a year after separated from wife and divorce. It was nice and quiet. Easy to keep clean. No bathroom especially in the winter was a humble experience. Changed my perspective also. Not too bad living. Had a turtle that used to show up by my steps. Weird but nice. Mr. Turtle. I know you are thinking, this guy was alone too long and lost it. No I found it and found new faith in God through my experience.

      You could build a small room and put a composting toilet, small shower and as far as a kitchen goes it is not hard to build a small cabinet and counter top to add a small sink. You could also fix it and use a solar panel and use a small electric burner to cook with. There are alot of videos on utube to help. You would not have to buy much and shop at second hand stores to get supplies to do it.

    wow folks are you serious with your comments.. First the wiring for the electrical is done.. (did you see the pole on the ceiling and hear him say electrical is done).. so all you would need is a solar set up you have electric. Next someone said tin roof noise during a rain storm.. are you serious with this? insulation will sound proof it if its thick and dense enough. Next the bathroom issue.. IF you were in the city and hooked it to the city water.. a flush up toilet will do just fine. If your in the woods like this guy talks about it being his CABIN.. then you do like the bears do. Heating/cooling? are you f'n serious with this.. its 12 by 20 with multi windows.. Open all the windows if your hot and he said a wood stove would work for heat if your cold.. although if you have your solar set up then an electric portable heater is all you need to heat this ONE small home. Here is the though patter your missing.. Many people take 30 years to pay for a home.. and even when an issue with their home breaks (roof leaks etc) they cant afford to fix it. But if your spending 100 a month on your living space.. then you should have cash to fix or upgrade it to make it better. Some people just want to knock others down because they can't see the forest for the trees. WELL DONE VIDEO. What if you bought 4 of these and put them side by side on a plot and then cut doorways into the ext walls and sealed the homes together.. you would have ONE BIG home.

    Regardless of where you live you have to follow international building codes. There's so many things that go into it. We build tiny homes for homeless veterans and give them for free. There is absolutely a way to cut costs and be efficient. The sheds in this video are not worth what they are paying in the end. To build that the cost is about 500-800$. There are better ways to help people into homes with than to rip them off.

    • @rainandfog4322
      @rainandfog4322 8 лет назад +4

      Many people DO realize that but can't build it themselves. Some people are renting land or as backyard where they're not allowed to build but are allowed to have something like this delivered. Sometimes if you wanted to go ahead and hire someone to build they want to take you to the cleaners and will want as much as this one costs to do it. I hear this a lot from guys who criticize that they can build these cheaper and better. Sure. No doubt. We get it. But just as this guy points out, most can't do that. Also, lower income people often cannot come up with the full cost of having one built - materials and labor - all at once but could only afford the smaller monthly payments. You're talking about people who are going to live in sheds. I'm not a veteran who could have a tiny house from your charity. It would be nice but isn't the case.

      There are some states where there is no building code enforced outside of municipal areas. Places like Texas and Missouri. It depends on the county, I believe.
      Here in Virginia, it's very strict, except for a few very rural counties. In my county, if you put up a shed with no kitchen sink or toilet, you can get away with calling it a storage shed... and you can "camp" in it indefinitely. In fact, if that "shed" is under 160 square feet, and is up on block, you don't even have to get permission where you park it. At least in the county where I live. None of the surrounding counties are as easy to get along with.

We as a society have become so accustomed to having a set way to do everything and whenever someone has the courage to reject it and go their way they get ridiculed for it. Makes me sick. I commend this man for wanting to do something different from the norm and to build a SECURE future. I don't care how secure and stable someone thinks they are with their great paying job and big savings, all of that wouldn't mean a hill of beans in the wrong circumstances. @KlunkerRider 9 лет назад +1

      RogueHarley on the contrary, as is its basically nothing more than a glorified garden shed. What I listed is what pretty much any shelter no matter humble should have for a minimum. The whole point of a tiny home isn't about living as cheaply as possible or just a hair above homelessness. Its about living comfortably while making a minimum impact on the environment. A cheap shelter isn't necessarily a comfortable one. Why bother with such a cheap structure if its a hotbox in summer and an icebox in winter? A minimal expenditure of the additional materials I listed would take the garden shed into a minimal but comfortable habitat. Hence my questions
      ;-)

    • @TheNurseArtist
      @TheNurseArtist 9 лет назад +10

      KlunkerRider on the contrary, contrary. The whole point of a tiny home is subjective. It is possible that what is imperative to you may be of little interest to the man beside you. You share more in common with someone in any form of tiny home than the masses maintaining the status quo.

    • @KlunkerRider
      @KlunkerRider 9 лет назад +7

      Sandra Binder that is very true. I come at the tiny house movement from my background as an architect and builder. From my POV the most important aspects are to provide a minimal structure that's also a livable comfortable space for the occupant. That means not only an efficient use of space, but insulation, efficient heat/air flow, h & c running water, and most importantly, not shitting into a painters bucket...IOWs using either a true flush toilet or reasonable alternative like a composting or incinerator type. I'm not going to comment on the rural outhouse option other than it works for some people and places but it's not an option in many places. Some of the comments I have read in other micro house topics make me agasp that some people's sense of whats perfectly acceptable shelter is one step above a cardboard box. If this was a discussion about housing the homeless with minimal but necessary means, that's an entirely different subject(though related yes) than this, which is building something minimal on property in leau of a large house. In this case there shouldn't be any reason why you shouldn't be able to provide all the comforts and facilities of the big house in the tiny house ;-)

  • @purewonka

    That's not a deal. A buyer still has to insulate it and put up interior walls and a ceiling. No plumbing means no sink, which will cost more money. The cost also probably doesn't include transport. By the time a person spends all that money they could have just bought a very basic small home already built on a lot. Where I live in SC a 2 bed, 1 bath home (not a mobile home) in decent shape on a small lot about .25 acres can be bought for about 30K, and I live in an expensive county. Move to Puduck in the middle of nowhere and I am sure a home can be found for much less than 30K. I think this purchase is not a good idea. I know when I'm writing this that you have already moved and never lived in this "home" because you were still working on it. This is the kind of project people take on and never finish. Waste of money.

    It's a shed. You legally can't live inside a shed. The papers you receive when purchasing is marked with an "S" for storage. Building codes requires certain amount of 2x4's and metal rafters and spacing between the beams etc..., you will be required to remove the unit or have it removed or demolished at your cost. These are NOT legal for living in or even sleeping one night in on any property! You can make it a "Man/Woman cave" but no bed or sleeping area allowed. They will inspect.

      DanielRichards644 If people are seriously considering a "tiny house" or other temporary/permanent living abode from the shed market, I am more than sure they have checked around and have weighed various options. Drag and drop convenience costs more. Besides, the shoes on your feet cost pennies to make but cost you quite a bit more to buy. Such is life.

      @rulesforrebels 9 лет назад +2

      my biggest concern with a tiny home is hte materials used, can the house breathe, are materials used non toxic and okay to breathe in living in that space. aside from that as far as cost your shoes you paid $100 for cost a quarter to make so its all relative its just that some people can put together a shed where as nobody can manufacture shoes in their home. i used to sell cornhole games for $150 a pop, it was about $18 worth of wood and materials but most people either aren't handy, would rather pay than do it themselvs, etc. if someone doesn't own tools they are looking at an investment of a few hundred bucks on top of wood to buy tools they may use once and never again. if people are willing to pay for these things more power to whomever is selling them

    Keep in mind if you were to take it north you'd need to frame out the walls to properly insulate it, to at least R-40, to survive the colder climates. Also worth considering are the cost of composting toilets and fuel stoves.

    Our government needs to get on board and change old zoning laws. Laws were put in place to benefit the realtors and banks to push large loans on the people. Many communities will not allow small homes. Very ironic since the government is the major pusher of "green living". I believe my community one can not build a home smaller than 800 square feet. Yes, we are forced to build big homes. People are not aware of this fact. Let everyone you know about the governments dirty little secret.

    Excellent idea for a first home! You can design it to make it true my your own, and won't break the bank doing so. Even after you finish the interior fully, you'll be saving a lot of money.
    Your energy bill won't go through the roof heating or cooling it either.

    I love some of the comments on here... the fat head guy, he is a fat head alright and pretty closed minded along with a few more ppl... I keep hearing building codes mentioned, there are ways around that esp in the way you label it... call it one thing you have a set of rules call it another and you have another set of rules... do your homework and call it the right thing.. example your allowed to sell water pipes but if you sell bongs its illegal same thing applies here, do your homework and label it the right way and your fine... then we get the oh build it yourself for 500 to 800 its so much cheaper... yes it is. I can build a car cheaper than buying it from chevy so whats that prove... rent to own a tv and you'll pay more than paying it all upfront but if you dont have it all upfront what do you do... you save or rent to own... same thing... some people can afford 150 a month but not 5 to 8 hundred same thing with the home you own 150k to buy it but if you morgage it it'll cost you 350k by the time its all done... same thing.... and some people just cant afford it even at 150 a month so.... like the one homeless woman who commented here she was like id love that.. to her its a mansion but to fathead its a shed and she is a loser... what a moron... not everyone can be the model rich person who has it all... Im a business owner who has the house but is looking at the shed as a better option... yes it needs to be insulated and drywall hung and a toilet yes your all correct but you have to start somewhere and for many this would be a good base start to add onto as money allows then move in and save cash in the long run... 10 to 15 k I could have this place nice enough to live in and have pretty much the same thing as someone who paid 150k on a home but i would be paying 2 or three hundred a month for four or five years not 600 a month for thirty years... now do you get the point to this, or you sill brainwashed to think you need a huge house two cars and a picket fence to be happy oh yea and a ton of debit dont forget that part... with the money I make if i lived in that shed I could have more toys than the guy with the big house has... or be able to retire in 10 or 15 years more.... now who is the loser... the guy living in the shed retiring in his 40s or the guy with a ton of debit and working until the gov says he can retire (if he paid things off like the plan told him to) people are brain washed to think if u dont have this ur not right or if u live this way your a loser.... id rather be this guy in the vid than fathead in the comments

      BootlegPainting you must be the owner of this piece of crap. if not you are really stupid. please note that the guy in his video he stated he does not live normally in this tool shed. he uses it as a cabin on his property. This means he does not have to pay for land and it also strongly implied that he uses the restroom in the kitchen in his normal house. of course a toolshed is better than living homeless on the streets. but if you have over $150 a month to spend for your rent or mortgage then you're probably not homeless and you can do better than this period it's not legal and it's not safe and it's not a good way to live. maybe he would be better off selling these for dirt cheap for people who are homeless but with a main house that has public restrooms for bathing showering and other purposes. but please insulated all the poor people will freeze to death.

      @BootlegPainting 7 лет назад +6

      Atir X so what the hell was all these words supposed to mean.... do u have a point to this long answer.... what your dumb for trying to find a cheaper way to live... and who wld freeze he says he is going to insulate it and put drywall in it so why wld someone freeze.... the whole point we was making is there is cheaper ways to live than a track house in some development.... I think your just one of those ppl who like to bitch and must find something to bitch about but this time I don't see where your going your all over the place with no real direction

    CITY OFFICIALS HAVE NO BUSINESSES PUTTING THEIR NOSES IN PEOPLE'S TINY HOMES. IT'S NOT LIKE THEY'RE LIVING ON PLANET X. THIS IS PLANET EARTH AND IT'S JUST A HOUSE SMALLER THAN THE USUAL, SO PEOPLE SHOULD TREAT TINY HOUSES AS REGULAR HOMES RESIDENTS LIVING IN THEM, ACCEPT FOR THE TAXES TO BE WAY TOO SMALL AND NOT LIKE THE REGULAR HOUSES' PROPERTY TAXES. This will eventually happen all across the world and will put an end to homelessness. We will get to know our neighbors. We share everything from food to our time. No more stress or worry about money. Wow you guys have the solution to our problems. Now we have to get building codes changed. This is where we put our energy, so we have choices, not big homes that cost to heat, mortgages we can't afford and more time with our love ones. Our future can be great.

      Me112233, years ago my dad wanted to buy one of those storage sheds from Home Depot and transform it into a house. He had his own land, but the county would not allow it, saying that it had to have hookup to water/sewer, power, and maybe needed to be of a minimum square footage. They classified it as a shed.

    Great idea! I've looked at the wooden sheds to renovate into a "get away" living space, but was wary of the treated wood being safe. The metal ones would work much better. p.s. Don't listen to the critics. Better to know what you can spend, (or not spend) than get into a large home and then lose it.

      lang van downsizing to a smaller real home is a good idea if you don't need the space or the expense. But downsizing to a tool shed is not only stupid and unsafe it's not even intelligent spending. you're not going to save any money unless you already own some property outright. Hopefully it'll be in a place you want to stay in. Whatever happened to quality of life ???

      Even on RUclips there's tons and tons of tiny homes builders in Texas. If you keep clicking around you will definitely find one. Lots of tiny homes don't come as much more than a frame mostly because in such a small space, you have to make it work for you or it doesn't work at all, so size, appliances, etc, they leave that up to you to do, so most of them, unless you're having it custom built, are going to be near this price per inch.

      It would be great if the homeless used their disability to NOT be homeless, many are drug addicts and alcoholics, blow their $ on disability day, then are out holding cardboard signs a few days later ' HUNGRY NEED FOOD '... the reality is, most are homeless due to irresponsibility, drug and alcohol addictions, as most towns have shelters but they don't allow drunks and drug addicts into them, so they 'fall thru the cracks' of their 'addictions, ' which many are also on food stamps , welfare, so then I pay out over $25 k a year by force of the governments' hand taking my money to support welfare, prison welfare, lazy politicians, countless unneeded government offices & employees with only the very best benefits, and retirement packages, and lest we not forget the 'subsidy programs' another flop that aids the poor but STEALS from the working poor... so the good people get punished in the end.
      This tiny house is not habitable with no bathroom , no kitchen, no hook up for rain water, no solar hook up, so a bare box, more like a giant walk in chicken coop. Sounds good till you freeze to death in winter, with no insulation, no dry wall, no heat , no water, no nothing.. Seems like you would need to add a few things to make me want one, might be safer sleeping in your CAR I suppose.

    Nothing there but vinyl siding and 2x4s,I would go with the Home Depot Shed/cabin with a loft,or a shipping container,they are a more sturdy,the container is cheaper,and the H.D. cabin is a little over double the price if you pay cash,but you get alot more room.Of course Home Depot wont give you instant credit,it sure beats the hell out of a tent,and you can always make it more sturdy,and add on as the funds are available.Shoot,I dont guess its that bad of a deal.

      It had two light fixtures, with conduit pipe leading to two or three power plug receptacles. One conduit went into the floor to possibly go to external electrical source or solar panel system. Power switch for the light had a power plug
      at the door. It's true that a used trailer has all that you need, and I've seen some for about the same price as this. However, the trend for "women caves", just like the old tool sheds, would cost more than $8,000, or $10,000.
      Oregon & Washington benefactors are coming up with Tiny Home communities, and prefab huts for the homeless.

    Something like this would totally work for me (maybe one just a little bigger, say 16' X 26'). Install some electrical outlets, add plumbing, installation, paneling and carpet. Section off and put a small bathroom in one of the corners, have the rest as a studio apartment Build it on a one acre lot next to a pond or small creek. "Oh Heck Yeah!!!"

    I'm 56 yrs old. Couple of yrs ago I learned enough carpentry to build 2 small cabins on our place. I checked out books on carpentry from the library and studied them, then when I got the buildin materials I asked God to help me, and He did. If I can do it, anyone else can, too. You can build a tiney cabin for a lot less than 4,000. Especially if you look arnd for materials that people throw away. A friend gave me some used insulation. Another friend gave us tin for the roof. I scarfed up some old sheets of paneling somebody had thrown away at a dump. It can be done, my friends, it can be done! And then you'll be proud of yourself for your accomplishment.

      In Dallas you have to have something under 200 sq. ft. in order not to have to deal with permits and even then there's rules where you can/cannot place a shed in your own yard. Geez, they are such greedy little Napoleans and their minds are encased in cement!

    How can you call this a HOME!?
    It's nothing more than an overpriced, decorative SHED!
    A home needs LAND, WATER SUPPLY, SEPTIC (because some areas ban composts), PLUMBING, INSULATION, and BASIC INTERIOR FINISHES.
    For $99 down, you are NOT a 'home owner' - you are a SHED OWNER!!!

      some people call a box in a ally home....so for some people that dont want to be a slave to a bank for the rest of their lives...or who are not as fortunate as some. then this would make a GREAT home for a single person..you just have to put some work into it.. could make it self sufficient. solal panels..put in your own septic and plumbing..it can be done.

      Stephanie Rose indeed it can be a home and can be run on either solar power or hydro power or windmill power. put in a small fridge and small stove and small sofa and bed then get a smaller unit for the shower/toilet and sink build them together. Yes it would be a modest yet decent home.

    • @AllenFarlow
      @AllenFarlow 7 лет назад +15

      I recently looked into buying a home, in town, a regular house and the cost was $97,000. After interest to the banksters the total cost over 30 years at 4% interest would be more than $200,000! That's at $700/mo. Now compare that to this video. Even if you buy one of these sheds at their price you'll pay perhaps $5,000 if they charge interest and it will be YOURS! Free and clear after that! A couple hundred bucks a month is super easy to handle for most people, leaving them the money to insulate it, install wallboard or paneling, and also install a bathroom (with walls and a door to meet code) and a kitchen area. Find a building lot that already has utilities at the street and get it hooked up for maybe $5,000 total. If you want a bigger house just buy a second building and set it right next to the first one. Honestly, its a no-brainer, folks. If (IF) you can qualify for a mortgage loan you will get screwed over 30 years, believe me. The banksters will make their money and I cannot rationalize giving them $110,000 ...for what? Signing a few pieces of paper and indebting myself for 30 years?! And what resale value would I have after that? Not difficult to see which is more affordable. Believe me, if you want that American dream, you'd better have deep pockets.

    Side windows are in a stupid spot if you want to build rooms inside, the best you could do is a 8x12 bedroom, with a 4x12 bathroom and an 8x12 open kitchen living-room at the front, but inside your bathroom and bedroom your windows are going to be in the front corners of the rooms, which will give you shitty air flow. I don't put windows in a house before a floor plan, hopefully you can tell them where to put the windows before they build it, but if they are all prefabbed and cut your screwed or at least very limited.
    The flooring is pressure treat too which gives off toxic gas, so, a different flooring is needed or something to seal it.
    My only complaints, but the materials would probably only be $1000 and use the other $3000 for finishing the inside.
    I think you'll be over $5000 to finish the inside, if you do the work yourself and you want it finished nice.
