i am a jazz d.j. and have been since 1978 and i have been playing big band music all that time and have never heard a better big band professional or not so professional as the ellington band out of tucson, az...and not far behind is the basie band out of the same community...i have no idea where in a town like tucson doug tidaback (the director of both bands) gets such committed young people to understand america's world, classical, popular, folk music - jazz...but i am thrilled to hear him every year now at the monterey "next generation" jazz festival....sooo keep finding those great young artists doug and keep bringing them to monterey for me to listen to and keep sending me c.d.'s of their work year after year so i can play them on my radio program on kfcf, 88.1 fm in fresno, ca....as you know i often use your band's cover of cotton tail as my theme song on my monday morning program... jim compton-schmidt, kfcf 1326 west kramer ridge road reedley, ca 93654 559-637-0165
Word...TJI has IMO lapped the competition the past few years at EE for excellence, consistency and swing. While they won this past year, I thought Doug Tidabeck had even tighter bands in 2016 and 2015.
3:34 he quotes Aubrey Martin’s solo from Roll Em in the 2015 competition
You know you’re a goat when your friends quote your solos
@@theblackbasketballhe quoted him because of his death
@@vlyfr9457 He died in 2018 which was two years after this performance.
@@theblackbasketballAnd Ben passed just a few years after Aubrey. Now they're both swinging together in Heaven.
