Considering the price point it’s not really competitive with many luxury suv EV’s that aren’t called Tesla, eg genesis. Once you addd the options it’s 80k+ USD. Not many middle or even upper middle class buyers can afford the initial cost of the ix. The other issue is the obvious Bangled looks of the suv. Doesn’t look refined or sleek, tough to not think it’s bloated or overwrought. Think I’ll wait for the second redesigned version. Also hate that stearing wheel-don’t want to hold a pretzel even if the screen is more visible-, lack of door handles inside(!), ?cup holders that don’t work well… what happened to BMW ergonomics?
I saw and test drove the BMW iX 2 weeks ago. Exceeded my expectations while driving and looked much better in person than in pictures. The exterior color and wheels make quite a difference also. My standard of comparison is my 2015 Mercedes S550, so tough to beat. Rated high for ride quality, noise, and driving dynamics, and the steering wheel was excellent in use. Did not like the cup holders at all, or the restricted view out the back window. Not as luxurious or good looking interior as my S550. My 5'6" wife found the plastic insert in the passenger seat rubbed her head - she reclines the seat a little as a passenger for comfort and, that was a deal breaker for her - will try out again and see if that can be adjusted out. BMW engineers probably overruled by the stylists on the seat design. I found seats comfortable but I am standard 5'10" and upright in driving position. Still a strong contender for my next vehicle, but waiting on EQS SUV - will be substantially more $ I am sure and I plus not terribly impressed by my initial EQS drive (terrible back seat, sit too low, etc) but MUCH more luxurious interior.....
Great detailed comment. Agree on the EQS rear seat and also don’t think it’s as luxurious as the S Class. Never noticed the plastic insert but that may be due to my seating position. Overall I think the iX is quite compelling however maybe just a little too much $$$ but that’s par for the course for any EV at this moment.

Saying the Tesla's interior is too simple and spartan - reminds me of the blackberry users touting the physical as essential. We all know how that turned out. Along the same lines - asking for apple carplay or android as essential - only happens to people who have not owned or driven a tesla for a decent amount of time. I'm an android and never missed any features of android auto on the tesla infotainment.
I drive a model 3 for 3 years now, test drove iX last weekend and I loved the interior way better on the iX. I also don’t think that the blackberry vs iOS comparison is fair, because in that case the operation logic was completely different. But iX vs Tesla is not that significant. Thank you for your detailed review. I enjoy your camera angles and audio in the reviews you post. During your video this car reminded me of my first EV (2014 i3 w/range extender). At the time I had about 81 miles of electric range (real world 65-70 miles) and that was plenty of range for my commute of 60 miles driving kids to school, work, practices, grocery stores, and errands. The only time I would use my range extender is when it had to turn on every month automatically to burn off any excess gas fumes. 325 miles of range should be plenty for most folks unless you do a road trip. There's where I'd give the nudge to Tesla and the supercharger network since Electrify America, EVGo, or ChargePoint tend to busy at some stations with all the other automakers needing to charge and the reliability is just not there yet. I do want to call out while I owned my i3, the only BMW maintenance that needed to be done was to change the wiper blades and tires. Like you mentioned in a comment below there is a lot less moving parts to fail versus an ICE vehicle. I would of kept the i3 but we needed a 5 seater so I traded it for a Model S but I'm always thinking how I love that i3 and the ease of parking it anywhere especially in tight city parking spots. You now got me thinking of maybe an iX over a MYLR now that Tesla has raised their prices and no longer qualify for the US Federal tax rebates. Thank you for your videos and honest reviews.

It's such a shame really that BMW approved such an controversial exterior design, because this car's interior is so beautiful and so luxurious. That is why I decided to keep my X5 for a bit longer until the EQS SUV comes. In my opinion, the EQS SUV looks way much better. Very different, BMW is about comfort and less sporty than the teslas. 2) inside lifestyle: BMW 9 out of 10, Tesla 5 out of 10 3) Charging and computers: BMW 3 out of 10 and Tesla 7 out of 10 I will say that german engineers totally missed the computer critical path and the computer on screen is an absolute mess. More dramatic, the most crucial part is charging options for long-range trips; the BMW system is terrible and is giving stupid charging recommendations; the Tesla is spot on thanks to their charging station. Giving this big miss, every long trip is a range anxiety trip and a lot of work to prep the trip, in the Tesla not an issue like with ICE car; you log destination and you drive Conclusion: I will not recommend the BMW if you drive long distances and probably go back to the Tesla at the first opportunity.
Thanks for the owners input! For me, the range is so large that I’d have no issue with charging as it would get anywhere I want to go in a single charge. It’s been decades since I’ve driven more than 500 kms in one shot so public charging is not an issue for us. We’ve had an EV now for a few months and haven’t even thought of plugging into a public charter, just not necessary for our needs.
I hate to say it, but despite the many things BMW might have done right with this SUV.....it just dosent look good. And for the price they are asking, I suspect it will not sell well. BUT it will probably be a GREAT used SUV in 3 years or so!
You gotta sorta laugh at car designers at times. In this case, as you (and others) point out, the front cup holders are in a ridiculous position. So car designers - who may they think they are smart and God like or something. I mean, how stupid is that bit of design. Other than that, I like this EV and really don't care about the controversial grille. I mean I'm not gonna stand at the front of it all day and stare at it. If any rich person watching and wants to help a poor (older person) and who cares about our precious Earth, to have a dream car before I go, please let me know 😇 (Well, u gotta dream at times!)
$113,000? so this is really at the price level of the tesla model X (base model)...with performance tesla performance kicking BMW iX 's butt. Even the model Y is faster than the iX
Model Y is not faster. The Model Y performance is faster but not by much and it rides like a brick and it noisy sport SUV. This is a Luxury SUV.. big difference. They don't even compare. I paid 95k for mine MSRP in Florida. Shouen receive in 4 weeks.
There's no way I take the iX over my Model Y and I came from driving BMW's all my life. Sure it's a lot more luxurious but it's also a lot uglier (exterior). First the MY has more storage/cargo space with a smaller dimensions. And going EV is not about luxury. It's about all the techs that can be software updated in your garage, unequalled battery tech and range, unequalled charging infrastructure. If I had stayed with ICE vehicles, no doubt I would've stayed with BMW. But once I decided on EV, you can't beat Tesla at their game. Everyone else is playing catch up. Oh did I mention my MY with acceleration boost can do 0-6 in 4.2 sec? Yeah it's faster than the iX xDrive50.
I have the acceleration boost on MYLR too, I LOVE IT, 400 Horses Power. I got it last year , so the total cost is $62,000 everything, No FSD , Today you need to pay $72,000 to get what I got 🤣
It looks nice on the outside but not the inside. I have the 2021 Tesla YLR. I like the simplicity of the Tesla's interior but the iX looks sportier on the outside. I still prefer Tesla on reliability compare to BMW. I am sure the BMW repair cost will way more expensive than Tesla.
Modern BMWs are very reliable, actually. Tesla is actually rated lowest or near lowest reliability every year. Basically they alternate with Stellantis on who's worst and depending on the source.
@@spooty01 Sorry, I have never seen reliable European car yet. I always had bad experience. My Tesla Y is so far so good. Forgot to mention, resale value.
@@set_exodon(Bad) luck of the draw for you I suppose. My family has never had any major problems with our BMWs other than annual maintenance. My sister would probably still have her 1998 530i if it wasn't wrecked by her nanny. The most problematic car anyone in my family has had was a Toyota, actually. Not sure if you're on the Tesla forums, there's lots of reliability issues. Only 1 of my colleagues has had a problem free Tesla. Others have failures left and right. One guy is in his 5th motor replacement. Luckily under warranty.
@@spooty01 Toyota is the most reliable car, no other brand can beat Toyota/Lexus reliability. I still have my 2012 Prius with 330K, only one issued Inverter for $800. @@set_exodon I didn't say Toyota is unreliable. I said the only troublesome car any in our family has had was a Toyota. We've also had a trouble free Landcruiser. In fact I'm looking to buy a new Toyota now. However, modern Toyota (not Lexus) as a brand is not as reliable as previous years. They've been caught/exceeded in recent years by the Korean brands, Mazda, and even Porsche depending on which reliability study you view. I do find it interesting that since you're concerned about reliability, you've bought from a brand that consistently ranks last. Not only that, the Model Y was ranked one of CR's top 10 least reliable. So you're definitely lucky if yours is actually problem free.
All the features and quality of interior is nice and definitely missing on the tesla. But I can’t drive a bmw with that ugly grille. If only it looked much nicer.
I think it looks great in person and has a lot of presence. And the general public seemed to like it. When I test drove the car, got a lot of compliments from passersby who were not aware of this car before. Most of the hate were from car forums or reviewers.
All BMWs have no charge scheduled maintenance for 3 years in Canada. If you watch the most recent Car and Driver's long term review of the Model 3 - they said the savings in maintenance of Model 3 is minimum over an ICE BMW. The main cost was the mandatory brake calipers lubrication every year for regions with road salt use during winter. And the cost is as much as an oil change. So they found minimal savings over the course of the ownership. Actually, if you were to lease the vehicle for 3 years, the maintenance cost for BMW would be a lot less than Tesla.

It’s been decades since I’ve driven more than 500 kms in one shot so public charging is not an issue for us. We’ve had an EV now for a few months and haven’t even thought of plugging into a public charter, just not necessary for our needs.
@@EverydayReviews2022 then in your case I would say it is the EV on market for now on the luxury side
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
30 speakers? ok
It’s incredible.
It’s a joke that you call Tesla model Y as the competitor
I hate to say it, but despite the many things BMW might have done right with this SUV.....it just dosent look good. And for the price they are asking, I suspect it will not sell well. BUT it will probably be a GREAT used SUV in 3 years or so!
I have an ix that broke after 12 hours of driving, depressed!!!!
Omg. What happened?
@@EverydayReviews2022 that is my question too. Lol 😆what happened?
Ummm seems like some people thinking this looks good need new bifocals $120k for whar is ppssubly the ugliest SUV on the market.
Sound off.
If u insist on hearing some sounds while driving then u're not suitable to drive an EV. Better off sticking with ICE.
Shouen receive in 4 weeks.
model y can't even be consider an suv with like 5 inches of ground clearance only. ridicolous vehicle.
Christmas lights still up
They’re everything lights. Easter, Halloween, Christmas. Programable RGB.
Good eye btw!
Overpriced AF
this is not a bmw, This is a Japanese car with a BMW badge.
@@JY-lg6ee Awesome. For 3k it's worth every penny.
@@PQV-8898 Woow Tesla goes up on the pricing ?? I paid $2,000 in 09/2021😁
@@JY-lg6ee I'm in Canada so it's $3k Cdn 🙂. Everything is more expensive up here.
Non buyers= Beautiful. Serious buyers= Its UGLY, no thanks.
I have zero problem with my 8 months old Tesla Y, keep my fingers cross. I have owned multiple BMW and Mercedes, I spent so much money and time for problems.
Majority hate the front. The design team should be sacked.
I’d take a model Y over this BMW even if the X3 was for free. The maintenance costs on the bmw alone would wipe out all the money you save on gas
I think you mean iX. Good thing about EVs are way less moving parts. Would have loved to have both at the same time to compare.
Why would you think an EV BMW would have anything like the running costs of its ICE vehicles?
All BMWs have no charge scheduled maintenance for 3 years in Canada. If you watch the most recent Car and Driver's long term review of the Model 3 - they said the savings in maintenance of Model 3 is minimum over an ICE BMW. The main cost was the mandatory brake calipers lubrication every year for regions with road salt use during winter. And the cost is as much as an oil change. So they found minimal savings over the course of the ownership. Actually, if you were to lease the vehicle for 3 years, the maintenance cost for BMW would be a lot less than Tesla.
Model Y sound like a tin can inside with rattles. Former Y owner.
I'm former 5 time BMW owner. Sorry BMW, I won't be buying anything with this buck-toothed grill. I don't care how good the reviews are.
