I don't know if it still pertinent, but today I did disassemble my SKS and did submerge all the parts in Mineral Spirits. I also applied it to the barrel. Then I boiled water and used dish washing liquid and washed the mineral spirits solution off all the parts. I also used doubled pipe cleaners to get inside areas with cosmoline. I towel dried everything reachable and then used a can of compressed air to blow out any water etc.. I am also planning to pull apart the firing bolt, clean it well and lubricate it before reassembling. The trigger assembly was well cleaned by the Mineral spirits and soapy water, so I don't think it needs disassembly. I dried it well, so I'll just lubricate it. Next, I will refinish the wood stock. I want a golden oak color.
It's called a wash bottle; they're pretty common as a laboratory supply. Searching for "lab wash bottle" or something along those lines should give you many options!
I pretty much like the Chinese SKS I have. Other than this version, I like the Yugo for ONLY one reason and that alone. It has a gas release system button atop the piston. I learned that you can momentarily turn the semi action into bolt action, particularly for a snipe shot. In this fashion, you will have less recoil and more precision. I just wish I could adapt this feature to mine.
@@oso1165 I find it difficult to believe that, mine has chinese markings on it. Why would a russian manufacturer false stamp a rifle! I've yet to find the year mine was made. And inside that triangle, it has the number 306.
Thanks. This is the best complete series of SKS videos.
That’s the cleanest SKS I’ve ever seen before cleaning. After 120 rounds, mine is filthy
Thanks for these videos, I would have no idea what I'm doing otherwise.
I've used water for cleaning up black powder rifles and black powder cartridges but haven't thought about using water for the SKS until now.
Professional and informative 10/10
Thank you … you helped me out a lot
Great video series!
I heard to soak it in mineral spirits? Is that OK or not recommended?

Great! Love your videos!
Can I use varsol to clean cosmoline? Or mineral spirits
mineral spirits yes but make sure when you clean the spirits off you re-oil it quick or it will rust it
So I wouldn’t need to use the water if I’m not shooting milsurp ammo?
There could still be some fouling with commercial non corrosive but it wont be nearly as much
Part 3 must have been taken down 😭

if you get a chinese made before 1964 it's an exact copy of the Russian one

Hopefully not too late!
Water? Why not windex on corrosive stuff ?
Ammonia. You shouldn't use Ammonia cleaners on chrome parts either.
I am NOT using water on any of my guns!! Not happening!
It's a soviet weapon. It was built for it
