Some of the very best jazz instructional material on RUclips. It works well in association with the Jazz Duets lessons from Nick Homes, who also has a strong soul background. (A Jeff Schneider/Nick Homes collaboration would be something to behold!)
Thanks Jeff. Thanks for doing these Piano lessons man. You are helping some of us who don't have the money to pay for tuition fees or private lessons. God bless you man. . .
YES! I understand that you want to break out into other types of videos, but these "sick" chord breakdowns that you do are why I subscribe, and why I keep coming back. I think it's an insult to call them "R&B" chords, 'cause I never heard this shit anywhere. If that's wrong, please recommend some R&B to me. Apologies to people that subscribed to Jeff (Schneider) for the sax videos and complain that he doesn't have enough sax anymore.
damn this has got to be one of the most harmonically rich progressions you've put up yet! i just wish we could see your hands for the chord fingerings since many of these chords are close clusters, i can't tell what's playing what ;)
I have no words for the thumbs down people, I believe they are just trying to be funny. Anyway, Jeff I've learned alot from you brother... Amazing work.
Im not sure if this is intentional or not but theres so much harmonic mess here, there were only a few instances where i knew where the root was and could follow along. Besides that it was just a roller-coaster of harmonics 😂😂 Welcome back jeff. Missed ya bud
Yo...this tutorial never gets old!!! I have to always go back because I go into another tune in my head. I was never taught the piano/keyboard, but I was taught the sousaphone/tuba and play from middle school through college. I'm pretty good at picking some things out, but this here just opens up new ideas for my own music. Thank you good sir...
Can someone tell me how I could reach a stage where I come with this sort of thing on my own? How helpful is it to just memorize the stuff covered in this video?
The voicing from top to bottom (A, G, B, D, F#) contains the root, b7, 9, 4 and 13. Most important there is the b7 and the 4, which define the sus sound.
And G13b9 has similar notes to C#m11 G13b9 - G B D F E Ab C#m11 - C# E G# B F# The common tones of B, E and G#/Ab make the voice leading transition very smooth
Jeff's channel is like the khan academy of jazz
Welcome back, Jeff: still catching up with all your old cool progressions but it's great to know you're still going with them ;)
DOPE! Such a hip, up beat, fresh, soulful collection you put together with this one man. I've got my guitar here with me to soak up the game.

Schneider, you bona fide beast! Thanks, as ever, for sharing the wealth and shining your light. Props from Scotland...
Thanks Jeff. Thanks for doing these Piano lessons man. You are helping some of us who don't have the money to pay for tuition fees or private lessons. God bless you man. . .
Yeah Jeff, I love it too! Really helpful to hear your tutorials on popular music keys sounds! Very nice one man.
You're awesome, Jeff. I'm a classically based pianist but I've always studied jazz by reading about theory and piano voicings. Really cool piece.

I have learnt a lot from you.Thumbs up! You rock
Jeff would love a pdf transcription of this one or at least leadsheet
Jeff your chords heal & refreshes my soul. Its deep man.
Which piano tone are you using & whats the dual tone too?
Jeff uses almost always uses Keyscape. He is using a duo patch of a Yamaha C7 Piano with a Classic L.A. Rhodes underneath the piano.
U can try layering rhodes with some FM ep or crystal rhodes
Very Stevie Wonderlike the melody is. Hope you consider that a compliment.

Thanks Jeff!
That intro man !!!

Isnt the pre-chorus just going to the 4th(Eb), and using that as the key center? Then playing 1, 7, flat 7, 6, then that 6 becomes the 2 for Bb. O.o
Thanks bro!

Gnats Son learning peices is helpful to muscle memory but like the other guy said time and study are the only way
Okay thanks! Could you recommend a place where I could learn the theory required to understand his videos?
schneider thx
request for sax solo and analysis over this
So just wondering, why you call it Db in the pre bridge and C# in the bridge. Is it just the way you see it?
thanks
SUPER!!!
Hey Jeff. Tyvm for all the vids. What is the piano you show on screen? I mean what is the app/vst called?
Hey Jeff. Why does the chord G13b9 work for the C#m11 at 14:09?
Also, why is a Gmaj7/A considered a sus chord?
Gmaj7/A is an easier way of writing A13sus, basically
Understood, but why is a sus chord? That is, what are we "sus-ing"?
The voicing from top to bottom (A, G, B, D, F#) contains the root, b7, 9, 4 and 13. Most important there is the b7 and the 4, which define the sus sound.
