- A new variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading in the U.S., raising concerns about a potential wave of infections and reinfections to start the new year.
The variant, called XBB.1.5, is a descendent of Omicron and a close relative of the XBB variant, which spread widely in Singapore and India this past fall. A December study in the journal Cell demonstrated that XBB is better at evading immune defenses gained from vaccination and prior infection, compared to other variants.

It's very mild for everyone, regardless of vaccination or natural immunity status, if your freshly vaccinated, you have roughly 50-60% better protection but that only lasts 10 weeks, and since it's not possible or safe to vaccinate every 10weeks we are basically all in the same boat and will probably catch it

Where did XBB.1.5 come from?
XBB.1.5 descended from variant XBB.1, which arose from XBB-the fusion of two Omicron BA.5.2 variants. Its grandparental strain, XBB, and its parental strain XBB.1.
Data presented to WHO recently by China CDC showed a predominance of Omicron BA.5.2 and its sublineages, including BF.7, among locally acquired COVID-19 infections.
According to the WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the variant, initially detected in October 2022, was a recombinant of two BA2 sub-lineages detected especially across Europe and the US.
So let's imagine some of these strains recombine!

I behave like a responsible citizen. Some won't so that's going to be up to us whether they roll out the National Guard or not. Personally I don't want to see tanks rolling through my community telling me I can't go out and do my thing or do this or you go to jail. What I'm thinking is going to happen is if people don't respect the governor's " you must close concept", that you must do this it's not mandate it's not a law, I think that they will bring in the National Guard to make people do what's expected of them so I think when were going through lockdown depends on everyone's reaction whether they're going to take advantage of the darkness or stay home or violate the lockdown and go to jail.

Exactly. I warned my brother of what is going on in China and he says we need to stop being worried because its just like a flu and live normally again. I said its not normal to see this many deaths and chaos. Peoole think we are going back to normal because they are removing all the glass shields in the stores. I think they will regret that pretty soon. The sad part is that we won't be warmed until its spread out of control where we live. Then its too late to be careful.

@@TheRealBlueValhalla no. I'm not high risk. Viruses mutate. Even if I were to get a flu/covid shot it might lessen the damage but it's not going to stop it. It does not stop you from spreading or becoming infected.
